Haven in a Dangerous World (Old)
Devin McMullen. Female. 18. Single dad. Dead mom. Good in fights and little else. No friends. Or, at least, that's what she's always been. Now, she's not sure exactly what she is. She's never been one for reading fiction, or anything for that matter, but this feels like something straight out of a fantasy. Her newly acquired instincts, however, scream dungeon core. Whatever that is. Unlike most dungeon cores, though, she's missing something very important. A dungeon. Stuck out in the open, above ground where she's definitely not supposed to be, with not a cave in sight, or any other land form besides miles and miles of ice and snow, Devin's not sure if she can survive. Update: Big caveate, though, just so you know. Started with this one idea and ran with it as far as I could. Characters and plot suffer from it, but I'm proud that I wrote as much as I did. Not too far off in the future, a meteor strikes the earth leaving the world in devastation. The impact of such a massive object changed the enviroment entirely, from tsunamis to tornadoes and the complete rewriting of the world's ecosytems. The worst part of it though was the fact the meteor was not composed of rocks and minerals. Mana, otherwise known as magic, composed the meteor in its entirety. With this foregin element introduced, the very biology of everything changed. Meet Ridge who even after living in this new world for several months doesn't have a clue as to what he is, because not everyone was lucky enough to change into things from fairy tales. Instead he has to work to find out what he is and what his dreams mean, all while trying to find a way to survive the monsters and dangers that lurk in the new enviroments.

Do yourself a favour and, if the chance to become a dragon in a different world ever arrives, reject it as kindly as possible. As for myself? I didn't have much say in the matter. I've wanted one thing, and one thing alone in this life—to be left alone. But these humans are beyond stereotypical. None of the other dragons let them in on the secret that we only hoard treasure in order to bait the fools. Or how it's a common belief that we eat humans for breakfast. Seriously! Not even a village would substitute as a snack. How do they think people taste anyway? Gross! But it doesn't matter if you hide away in your cave, doing nothing. Some hero is bound to find and attempt to slay you anyways. Or weird cultists offering sacrifices at your door. But there was this princess that asked me to kidnap her one time.
