《22 Letters✓》Chapter 19:New Addition

Derek didn't sit with us the next day.
Instead, he took Nathan's place on the lunch table. Cecelia couldn't stop staring at him while she ate her apple; her gaze was just intense.
"That douche." She spat out a piece of apple, "I'm gonna throw this at him.
Luckily, the team kept the secret to themselves, but that didn't stop them from staring at Nathan in disgust at the lockers. I really hated Derek for that.
"Hey, don't do that. He doesn't deserve it." I then started to write Nathan another letter, "He's still our friend."
"Yeah, like friends go and betray each other." She scoffed, "Let me go call Nathan over here."
That made me look up, and I saw Cece going over to Nathan with the track table looking on; Cece said something and Nathan nodded, showing her a small smile. They made their way here and I quickly shut the book and smiled.
Nathan sat in the seat Derek used to sit in, "Hey guys."
"What's up Nathan?"
"Well, besides watching that motherfucker in my place, nothing is really going on. I hope I didn't take too much of your space."
"You didn't." Cece smiled then looked the other way.
I followed her gaze and it landed on Yvonne; a beautiful chocolate skinned girl alone at the back of the cafeteria, who was listening to something through her blue headphones. She was nodding to the music and her eyes lit up, I knew Cece was hooked because when I turned to look back at Cece, she was still staring. Doing my friend a solid, I stood up and walked to Yvonne.
Yvonne sensed my presence and looked up, "May I help you?" She put her headphones round her neck, her puffy afro hair taming down a bit.

"I was wondering if you wanted to sit with us." I asked her politely.
"Why me?"
"Because, you look like you need a new friend." I smiled, a little kindness goes a long way.
"I have friends you know." She laughed a bit, "I just think a little peace and quiet is needed sometimes. But nonetheless I'll join you."
She stood up and we walked to my table together. With Derek suddenly becoming popular, I was the new leader of my lunch table. She sat besides me and Cece cleared her throat.
Interesting.
"Hi, I'm Cece." She stuck her hand out, "Nice to meet you."
"Yvonne." She replied, and shook her hand.
"So, before Leon decided to leave, I was saying Nathan should join the chess club." Cece smiled at him, "It would be a great opportunity to know the rest of the people you've been neglecting because of popularity."
Nathan's frown deepened, "Sorry about that."
Cece pat his back, "It's okay! We all get a little carried away, like someone I used to know." She threw a glance at Derek then sighed.
"C'mon guys, lighten up." I took my notebook out, "2 positives don't make a negative."
"How does chemistry and math got to do with Derek becoming the new captain?" Yvonne asked me.
"I'm trying to cheer you up a little."
"He's trying. But guess what will cheer me up?" Nathan glanced at the table, "I have an idea to get back to the most homophobic team ever."
"Derek was never homophobic." I shrugged.
"How would you know? I mean, he clearly made an example of-"
For the sake of Yvonne being there, I intervened, "Either way, Derek isn't homophobic."

"Who's homophobic? Derek?"
"The coach apparently." Cece replied, "You can't just kick off a great athlete for no apparent reason. But he did. He did based on his own judgement."
"And I think for that he needs to pay." Nathan smirked, "You guys in?"
"I don't think this is the best idea guys." I sighed.
"Well, if it gets rid of something that shouldn't even be in a diverse school, then of course it is." Yvonne mumbled, "I'm in."
"Me too." Cece exclaimed a little too loud, making heads turn to face us.
"Leon? Please?" Nathan's eyes were pleading with me.
I nodded my head firmly, "Let's do it then."

Horizon
Emiluna is about to turn 16 and gain access to her first two classes. Living in a small village in the middle of nowhere, she always wanted to become a Hunter. Having learned a bit under her parents, a miller and a seamstress, she was sure she could never pick a class that meant staying inside all day. But being a Hunter is more than just a class. It means providing meat for the village, culling small pests near the cultivated fields and most importantly guarding the village from predators and monsters. But Emiluna is not a normal girl and her destiny far bigger than she could have ever imagined.Join her as she finds out what awaits just behind the horizon.[Word from the author]I am looking to create a fantasy world that has some logic to it and stays believable even as characters gain power and progress in levels.Classes and level quantify the people's progress, but they do not artificially inflate their power to demi-god levels. I am primarily trying to write a captivating story, not "power-porn". That means it will be slower than the fast burning litRPG you might be used to, but it won't burn out that quickly either and I won't drop half of my plots at the wayside. I should mention that English is not my native language. I hope it is mostly unnoticeable, but sometimes I manage to slip some awkard sentence structure in there (German sometimes puts things together in reverse). It it also my first time writing an actual fantasy novel and the first time writing anything at length in English. Any constructive feedback is very welcome.Credit where credit is due: Cover picture by Paul Bica (Licensed under CC 2.0)Check out his amazing photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dexxusYes, my cover picture is a photo, not a drawing. :D I might try my hand at some Paint-ification later to add the title.[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
