"cmon meilani it's not that hard to decide" kiara echoes through the house. "i have so many bikinis kie, it's not that easy!" meilani calls back. "fine but don't blame me when the boys start having a go at us for being late yet again." this was daily occurrence for meilani and kiara. meilani was very specific about her outfits and kiara looked naturally good no matter what so all she had to do was throw anything on.
"oh look who's finally decided to join us" jj rolls his eyes as both girls approach. "we would've been on time if it wasn't for mei-" kiara starts but is cut off by john b "let me guess, mei had to pick out the perfect bikini for the occasion." "hey! it's not easy to look THIS good" meilani says while doing a twirl for the group. "it's easy for kiara" pope says quietly. meilani thumps him on the arm. the girls take their seats, kiara next to pope and meilani sitting perfectly on jjs lap while he played with her hair. this was normal for them, yknow the flirting but constantly denying it to save their friendship.

after a short while, the group arrive at tannyhill. at the dock, sarah is sitting there waiting.
"m'lady" john b smiles while taking sarah's hand and helping her onto the boat. jj and meilani make fun of them both.
just as the group are about to leave, rafe cameron calls out. "meilani!!". she looks behind her to see him standing there with her bag. her face flushes red. she gets up off the boat and walks to him. they start walking away so the group can't hear.
"rafe fucking cameron" jj mutters under his breath. "you know anything about this sarah?" kiara asks. sarah shakes her head as the rest of the group watch the pair, who seem to be in a bit of an argument now.

after a couple of minutes, meilani gets frustrated and grabs her bag. she turns on her heels and walks back towards the boat. "meilani please!" rafe calls out. the girl ignores him and gets back on the boat into her original position on jjs lap. the group just stare at her in confusion. "what're you waiting for john b, go." she says. without hesitation, john begins driving away.

after a day of swimming in the marsh, the group return to john b's house. "i'm gonna turn in for the night, see you guys tomorrow" meilani gets up. the group say goodnight to her and she starts to walk away. "hey meilani, wait!" jj calls out. she stops and waits for him to catch up. they begin walking again. "so you have been really quiet since what happened with rafe earlier, why'd he have your bag?" jj asks. "it doesn't matter" meilani responds quietly. "are you macking on him?" he continues. "no" the girl responds bluntly.
they reach her house and low and behold no ones home. meilanis mom died when she was younger and ever since then her dad has been working extra at his job at the sheriffs station. "goodnight jj" meilani says as she walks away. "mei, wait." the girl turns around on her porch to face the blonde, "what?" he goes to say something but stops himself. "goodnight gorgeous". meilani scoffs at his remark and laughs. without another word, she goes inside.

Sorcerer, level 1
Alcar's life sucks. His days in the poor quarter of the city of Katresburg are long and tough, his parents treat him like garbage, and he doesn’t have a silver moon to his name. But Alcar knows that there is an exciting world of adventure out there. And when he sees a half-orc master sorcerer walking through his neighborhood, he decides to grab his chance. He approaches Master Maluhk to offer his services as an apprentice. And to his shock, the sorcerer agrees to let him come and try his luck along with several other applicants. Soon though, it is all too clear that Alcar, clumsy and lazy as he is, lacks any natural magical talent. It also becomes apparent that Master Maluhk is only interested in ’apprentices’ in order to get someone to do his laundry and tidy up his books. At best, Alcar and the others have signed up to do unpaid labor. Things go from bad to worse when his fellow applicants for the role of apprentice prove to be reckless in the extreme, and as Master Maluhk’s tower catches fire, Alcar soon finds himself being blamed for their misdemeanors. Can Alcar clear his name, gain another chance, and learn enough to show that he has the potential to be a proper sorcerer’s apprentice? [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
