《Anger Issues》15

They finished out there day as if nothing romantic was going to happen later tonight - they were professionals, after all.

However, now Maisie was pacing the kitchen in her house, considering changing her outfit for the fourth time.

"It's just a picnic, Maisie," she whispered to herself, "there's no need to be any dressier than what you are right now."

She walked a few more laps around her kitchen island before she stopped dead in her tracks.

"But this is Brent we're talking about, here," she answered herself, "there's no way that this is just an ordinary picnic - nothing is ever just ordinary with him."

Maisie completely ditched her usual calm, cool, and collected demeanor that she usually sported. She didn't generally let boys get to her head like this at all, but she figured that Brent could at least be the exception. She was getting ready to walk up the stairs to change into her fifth outfit of the night but was halted by the sound of her doorbell ringing.

It was only then that she glanced at the clock for the first time since she had gotten home.

6 o'clock on the dot.

Flattening out her blousing and sighing to herself, secretly trying to regain her composure, she grabbed her purse and walked to the front door.

As if Brent Hollier wasn't a beautiful sight in general, there was something about seeing him dressed casually, holding a bouquet of roses, and smiling wide at Maisie that did something to her.

"These," he said, holding out the flowers to her, "are for you, Miss Maisie Rose Cooper."

Smiling graciously, she stuck out her arms and accepted the beautiful roses, bringing them to her nose to take in their sweet smell, and leaned forward to give Brent a one armed hug, the roses being the only thing separating them.

Walking over to her kitchen island, she delicately placed the bouquet on the countertop, turning to Brent, "They're beautiful, Brent, thank you. I will make sure to put them in a vase when I get home."

The pair made their way to Brent's car - he was driving them this time - and they made light and comfortable conversation on their way to their mystery destination - which Maisie knew better than to ask about, Brent was very tight-lipped when it came to surprises.

Less than thirty minutes later, they arrived at the clearing of a densely wooded area, and Maisie looked over at Brent to see him smiling widely.

"This is my favorite place to go," he smiled at Maisie, "I hope you're up for a little walking because we kind of have to go down a secret little trail to get to the clearing. But it'll be worth it, I promise.

After a little while of walking, stumbling into each other, close-calls when it came to not tripping over protruding roots, and lots of hand-holding, Brent and Maisie finally made it to their destination.

Before the pair was the most beautiful sight Maisie was sure she had ever seen. There was a small brook going down stream, the naturally placed rocks causing mini waterfalls and a plethora of soothing white noises. Thin layers of moss coated the stones on the ground and the bark on the lower halves of the trees. Spanish Moss hung low from the branches and the fading sunlight gave the area an orange glow.

Right in the middle of everything was a large, flat rock, halfway out of the side of a little hill, creating the perfect place to sit and take in your surroundings.

Taking her hand, Brent lead Maisie over to the flat mini-mountain, his smile just as wide as hers. Only it quickly fell and was replaced with a scowl as he began to look around.

Thinking she had somehow done something wrong, but subconsciously knowing better, Maisie asked, "What's wrong, Brent?"

"A caterer was supposed to have already delivered our food. It was supposed to be waiting here for us when we got here."

"Well, maybe he misunderstood where it was. I mean, it was quite the trail," she reasoned with him.

Whipping his phone out of his pocket, he began to dial a number, "No, I gave him specific instructions as to where to go. Hold on just one second, please, Mace."

After a couple of minutes of hearing Brent yell at his phone, Maisie decided to intervene.

Taking the phone out of his hand and apologizing to the scared-sounding man, she gave him simple directions, thanked him, and hung up."

Turning to Brent, she raised an eyebrow, "It's just a simple mistake, Brent. You need to stop letting things like this get you so worked up and calm down."

"I am calm. I'm nothing but calm all of the time."

"No, you're not. You're fifteen seconds from starting a fight all of the time."

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. Maisie took this as her opportunity to walk over to him, grab his hand, and lead them to the rock.

They sat in a comfortable silence until the delivery-man arrived. Maisie decided that she'd go and grab the food from the poor man. He looked even more scared of Brent than she had imagined he would. Granted, Brent did look even more powerful than he sounded - which seemed like an impossible thing to do.

"I'm sorry," Brent spoke.

"Sorry? For what?"

"For this night not going perfectly. For getting mad. I just wanted everything to go specifically as planned. We were supposed to start eating as soon as we got here, leisurely sipped our champagne and ate desert as we watched the sunset. I wanted to ask you to officially be my girlfriend as soon as the sun went down - so it'd be an even more significant thing to remember. But, instead, we didn't even start eating until the sun was already down and -"

"Yes," Maisie interrupted him.

"Yes, what?" Now it was Brent's turn to question her.

"Yes, I will officially be your girlfriend."

"Wait," He asked, his grin expanding my a ten-fold, "really? You will?"

She didn't feel the need to answer with words because in that moment, she leaned over and planted the sweetest kiss he had ever received on his lips.

"Is it too early to ask you to move in with me?" He smiled against her lips.

"I live less than one hundred feet from your front door already, I think that's close enough for right this moment, Hollier."

Brent Daniel Hollier wasn't sure of very many things. But, right then and there, he knew that whatever it was he had to face, he wanted Maisie Rose Cooper right by his side for every single thing.
