《Good For Gone》Nowhere To Go

I gripped the phone in my pocket, afraid to take it out. Who would I even call? The one person I needed to warn didn't have a phone.
I was tempted to try and text my Dad to make sure everything was okay on their end of the woods, but I could feel the eyes of the men tracking my every move.
So I just stood there helplessly, listening to the master, or Randall, talk about the importance of giving in the name of education.
I began chewing on the inside of my cheek. There was no way in hell I was looking forward to talking to him, but the wait was making me too anxious.
There was no way to know what to expect. He could kill or kidnap me, which seemed like the more obvious choices. But if that was his plan, why would he go through all this trouble?
The greenhouse project started right before the fall semester, so he'd known where I was this whole time, but he never did anything about it.
Until now at least. But what was the point? To scare me? I could tell that these demons got a kick out of it just based on how anti-Peter behaved, but this was extreme.
After a few minutes, I heard a loud applause and the footsteps of everyone leaving the stage.
I froze there as school officials passed by me, offering me friendly smiles. But I was focused on the man who came down last.
He nodded at the men and the dispersed into the crowd without a word. Then his eyes focused on me.
Most of the people had gone their separate ways at this point besides the handful of people there to take down the stage.
He approached me and offered me an arm. I intern just stated at him.

"Take it." He commanded in a calm voice.
As little as I wanted to touch him, I didn't see an adequate escape route. Taking his arm I was expecting him to grab me and hold me in place, but his touch was soft, gentle even.
He guided me towards the entrance to the greenhouse and I could feel my eyes burn with fearful tears. There was no way I wanted to be alone with him.
He let go of me to open the door and I almost considered running. But when he looked at me I decided against it. The look wasn't threatening exactly, but the arch of his eyebrow insisted that I needed to hear what he had to say.
I walked through the door and he followed close behind me.
Most of the plants were still sitting in their temporary containers, waiting patiently to be unloaded into their new home.
"Stop looking so damn terrified." He laughed.
I turned to him, not knowing what to say to that.
"I mean I know you're probably surprised, " no shit, "but you should be happy, this is a gift."
"Gift?"
He laughed at me like I was being silly, "Of course, this is all for you, I mean I named it after you. I'm not even being subtle."
I leaned against a table, trying to sort everything out in my brain. I was lost for a way to properly absorb this information.
"So," I started, "What do you want?"
He pulled up two wooden crates and gestured for me to sit down. I didn't budge so he unbuttoned his sportcoat and took a seat on the far one.
"I want to make you an offer."

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
