"these are getting a little odd celeste." you showed her the paper over facetime, "this is like the 4th letter i've got."
"have you asked anyone about them?" celeste asked.
"no i mean they're not harmful. they're just love letters." you shrugged.
"oh young calista has an admirer." you heard leon sing from the background.
"hush leon." you hissed.
his hair and part of his face entered the screen, pushing out celeste's face.
"why don't you ask davo about it?" he suggested, "though he might kill your admirer then."
"connor has other shit to worry about." you sighed.
"oh he'll make time for you calista. trust me." he smirked and left the screen.
celeste's face filled the screen again and she had a large smirk on her face.
you groaned loudly, "you guys need to get that out of your head. he's not interested and i'm not interested in ruining my friendship with him."
"he's not very suave with the ladies calista. you know that." leon yelled again.
you sighed and rubbed your face.
celeste was the leon draisaitl's girlfriend, but you had known celeste even before that. you and celeste had been best friends since childhood. celeste and leon introduced you to connor mcdavid so neither one of you would have to be a third wheel with them anymore.
"i think he tries calista. he's just not very good at it."
you shrug.
you hear a knock at your door.
"i gotta go celeste."
she nodded.
"have a good game tonight leon!" you said louder.
"thank you calista."
"talk to you later celeste." you waved and hung up.
you sighed and got off the couch you had sank in to. you walked to the door and looked for a package or a source of the knock, but there was nothing. nothing, but a small yellow envelope.

you stared at it suspiciously.
what the hell could this be?
you picked it up and brought it inside your house to open. quickly, your finger slid through the adhesives and you slid out the piece of paper that the envelope contained and the $10 bill.
go to your favorite cafe and order your favorite drink
-C
you immediately picked up your phone. this was extravagant and a bit scary, but the only person that you thought had any correspondence with that cafe was connor.
you quickly clicked his contact and put the phone up to your ear as your knee bobbed up and down.
you've reached connor mcdavid. leave a message. i'll call you back as soon as i-
you tossed your phone away from you in frustration.
"i could use a coffee anyway." you mumbled to yourself and picked up your car keys.
you drove to the cafe and walked in.
"oh calista, you want the usual?" the owner smiled at you.
you smiled softly and nodded. she walked into the back room and you looked at her utterly confused. she had walked straight past all the coffee making supplies.
darnell nurse's girlfriend, mikayla walked out with a yellow envelope alike to the one that brought you here.
"what is this?" you asked mikayla desperately.
she just smiled and shrugged.
you snatched the envelope out of her hand dramatically and tore it open.
go to the restaurant where i would always take you when it's a cheat day.
-con
so that's who was doing this. connor mcdavid.
you were handed your coffee and waved to mikayla and the owner of the cafe. you were now off to delux burger bar. you and connor almost 50% of the time end up there if either of you are hungry and want to go out.

you pulled up to the restaurant and saw a familiar black audi that belonged to celeste. you walked up and tapped on her window causing her to jump in fear. she rolled down her window, clutching her chest.
"jesus calista."
you chuckled at her. she handed you yet another yellow envelope.
i know you're gonna hate me for this, but go back to your house and get dressed and get into celeste's car.
-connor
you groaned dramatically and walked back to your car. you drove all the way back home with celeste on your tail.
"what exactly am i getting dressed for here?" you asked celeste as you walked into your home.
"um rogers place." she smiled brightly.
your eyes widened, "oh."
"get on with it then." celeste shooed you away.
you quickly slipped on some jeans, a hoodie, and a jacket over that.
"okay i'm ready."
"come on then lista."
the both of you got in her car and went to rogers place. celeste began to turn into the private parking.
"celeste! what am i doing here?" you began to grow nervous.
"you'll see very shortly calista. you're really gonna like it." she smiled.
once parked, celeste grabbed your hand and began running you into the building quickly showing her id to the security guards.
"CELESTE!" you yelled being pulled.
she stopped you once you got to the boards of the ice arena.
"come here calista." leon held out a gloved hand for you to take.
you glanced from celeste to leon's hand. celeste pushed you toward leon a little urging for you to take his hand. you grabbed leon's hand and he began to guide you across the ice in front of the 18,000 people in roger's place.
"stand here calista. you're okay." leon said as he patted your back and skated off to the oilers bench.
you stood in the main faceoff dot on the ice all alone. you glanced at the oilers bench. some of the players flashed you a thumbs up. even the opposing team was watching this chaos. all of a sudden, connor skated onto the ice with a giant bouquet of roses. you hid your face in your hands. he handed you the roses.
"hi calista." he whispered.
"connor, what's going on?" you asked.
he pointed over to the bench where his teammates were holding up pucks that spelt out "d a t e ?".
you laughed and your mouth fell open in surprise.
you nodded.
connor grabbed the roses from you and gently placed them on the ice to kiss you. you melted right into the kiss after getting over the factor of surprise.
"have you been writing those letters to me?" you asked.
he blushed, smiled, and nodded.
the chorus of fans clapped and sticks hitting the boards from both teams echoed around rogers place.
"DAVO HAS A GIRLFRIEND."
"give it up for your captain and his new girlfriend, calista!"

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized

The Sanctuary Core
Summoned to balance the miasmas of Dungeons, so called Sanctuaries- everything opposite of what a dungeon is and does, serve to counter death with life and bring balance to the world. Serving as a Sanctuary Master in charge of managing one of these defenses, Thomas Cutter is pulled from his own world along with his home. Aided by a helpful nymph and a magical book for controlling his territory, Tom must grow his lands enough to halt the dungeon that lay deep in the southern mountains or die in failure. Disclaimer / Author’s note: I’m writing this story purely as something to do. If you choose to read it, I’m glad, but it’s certainly more written for my own enjoyment than anyone else’s, so… sorry if it’s not for you. With that, do be gracious with me, as well as offer whatever helpful criticisms you might have. I’d be much obliged. Enjoy!
