"i'm so going to beat you fayre." william boasted towards you.
"remember who's the long distance runner in this relationship." you said towards him.
"remember who's the professional athlete here baby." william said.
you nodded and shook your head.
you and your husband william were doing a marathon and he was determined that he would beat you. you were always a long distance runner, middle school through high school then to university, in each level you had won championships.
as soon as you arrived at the marathon route, it was serious business. you and william both went into pregame routines. you had your own superstitions all throughout your running career, specific stretches in specific orders.
"ready to lose fayre?" william asked.
"42.2 kilometers willy." you sang at the starting line.
"oh honey i know."
a starter's gun shot and everyone was off.
right away you noticed that william was going way to fast for 42.2 kilometers of running. you chuckled at his inexperienced, confident self.
you had spent years perfecting a pace for yourself that could get you done with the race efficiently. you couldn't let yourself get too tired or you would never finish the race.
you crossed the finish line out of breath and pulled your phone out of your pocket. you had recorded one of your best times. 5:03:06. 7:11 minutes per kilometer.
you looked around and smirked big. william was nowhere to be found.
"that cocky little bitch." you whispered to yourself and laughed.
"thank you" you said as you were handed your medal for finishing the race.
you sat down on a bench and waited for your overly confident husband to finish.
soon enough william ran through the finish line and he was handed a medal as well.

"willy! what happened?" you smirked.
"shut up!" he whined, "i'm tired. this is running forever. i play 19 minutes a night."
you laughed at your pouty husband. you could definitely tell he didn't like to lose.
you hugged a sweaty william, "i'm so proud of you willy. you're not a runner, but you still finished and that's all that matters."
"thank you lovey." he gushed
"for being all confident though and then losing, i guess you could buy me some food." you looked at him in suspense waiting for his answer.
he giggled and nodded.
"yes, i'll buy you food fayre." you pumped your fist in happiness, "i'm hungry too."
"you're a growing boy willy."

The Twelve
In a world marred by the supernatural, Japan suffers from its own fair share of evil and demonic disasters, with generations of shamans known as Onmyoji protecting their homeland from these forces of evil. Capable of wielding magic and using spirits of their own, these shamans were not only skilled in battle, but also divination. However, they were unable to correctly predict Japan's loss in World War Two, and suffered the punishments that followed. Persecuted and torn apart by infighting, the Onmyoji reunited under the banner of the Tsuchimikado clan, descendants of Abe no Seimei, one of the greatest Onmyoji to ever live. The Onmyoji began to rebuild and to regrow. Ren is the sole heir to the Tsuchimikado family, but has been unable to practice Onmyodo ever since his birth, even though he possesses the greatest ability in the family. But when disaster befalls his family, Ren has nobody to turn to, and no idea how to use his powers. As he journeys to escape the same fate his family faced and attempts to learn how to use his powers, there is only one question on his mind; as the Tsuchimikado heir, how can he save the Onmyoji... from themselves? ---------------------------------------------- note from author: I'm writing this based loosely on the very real theories of Onmyodo, and so my writing may not be a truthful or accurate depiction of Onmyodo or other related areas, such as religion, for instance. That is why, while depicted in the real world, events that happen may seem unrealistic and it may be easier to imagine it as a parallel universe that is the same as ours, but with slight differences so that my possible errors will be easier to overlook. Sorry, and thanks!

At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
