《nhl imagines》victor mete // montréal canadiens

victor had heard you scream before, but never as bad as tonight. it made him uneasy. he had seen you before, he knew your name and you knew his. you guys waved at each other whenever you saw each other. you were always friendly to him.
victor could hear you scream every night. usually it stopped around 1am, but tonight it didn't. he never knew why you screamed, maybe it was a stress reliever (a weird one).
victor always struggled. he didn't know what to do. he hated just listening to your scream each night, but it was a little odd to knock on your neighbor's door, who you barely know, at 1am.
victor sat up and threw on a hoodie. he decided he would go and see if you were okay since the screaming was more violent than usual. he stepped out of his little house into the cold montreal night. he shivered as he walked through the snow.
as victor got to your door, he hesitated. could what he be doing rude or invasive? it certainly felt like it. he knocked on the door anyway. when the door opened a few minutes later, victor saw a extremely tired looking, red faced you.
"oh i'm so sorry. did i wake you?" you struggled not to cry. the night terror you had tonight had you more distressed than ever before.
"are you okay y/n? i could hear you screaming." he asked.
you tried your best to nod, but instead of just doing that you burst out sobbing. victor immediately hugged you. you sank into his hug. it was warm and nice.
"you're okay. you're safe." he whispered words that anyone would want to hear.
the sobs shaking your body became less frequent as he whispered to you, until the only noise was victor whispering. you listened to him, in hopes of not bursting into ugly sobs again.

"are you good?" he asked playing with the ends of your hair.
you nodded into his chest with your eyes closed. the lack of sleep you had was insane. you felt calmer than usual in victor's arm. he was comfortable.
you proceeded to remember that this was your neighbor you had barely ever met. you backed off panicked.
"oh my- i'm so sorry." you rambled.
"hey, hey, hey. calm down. you're fine." victor said, placing his hand on your arm, "you're tired. you need sleep."
you nodded, being too tired to resist him.
"guide me to your room. i'll put you to bed." he giggled quietly.
you smiled. he had a cute little giggle (and a cute face).
wait. no, no, no! don't think that he's your neighbor.
you started to walk and he followed closely behind. you climbed into your bed. victor smiled.
"you're so cute." as soon as you realized you said that, your hand clapped over your mouth.
he giggled and tucked you in.
"you must be a little bit too tired for your own good." he said with a white smile.
he ran his hand through his hair and looked over everything in your room. you followed his coffee brown eyes.
"i don't want to bother you any longer so i'll get going." he said, moving towards the open bedroom door.
"no, don't leave." your instincts sputtered out.
he turned back around quickly, so quick that it could've given the kid whiplash. his eyes gazed into your's.
"please don't leave." you begged, "unless you want to go."
"i'll stay." he said quietly.
"do you want to go watch tv or something?" you asked.
he smiled his precious little smile and nodded. he offered his help getting you out of bed.
you and victor ended up on the couch with the tv illuminating both of your faces. not that the tv was being watched, you guys were more focused on the conversation you were having.
you slowly drooped onto victor's shoulder as you talked until you fell asleep. the last thing you felt was victor put his head on top of yours before you fell asleep.
a peaceful, sound sleep. something you hadn't gotten in a while.

MANTIS: On Hiatus
Two young adults who were childhood friends are killed amidst a pandemic worse than our own. After many years apart, Rihelah was on her way to see Michael, hoping to rekindle their friendship on the day they would both lose their lives. The pair are unwittingly selected to represent Earth in a test set forth by godlike beings who are intrigued that our world gave rise to complex life without having been intentionally seeded by their kind. Michael and Rihelah are reincarnated as predatory insects upon a distant planet called Edon. Elves, Dwarves, Dragons and their kin, Goblins, Ogres, Humans, Lizardfolk, Orcs, and sapient arthropods known as Enkelyn all inhabit this beautiful world touched by magic. The tiny mantids must survive terrified and very much alone upon arrival, while neither is aware that the other has also been reincarnated upon the same island. Naked in their new chitinous exoskeletons, they must now brave the terrors of an alien world's food chain. Each will benefit from their years of experience on Earth, but they must somehow find a balance between old lives and new. Moderate mindsets and peaceful values from a mostly safe and privileged life on Earth must now contend and somehow coexist with the strange physiology of a new and unfamiliar body as well as the violent aggressiveness of a predator's mind. To top things off, the pair are about to find themselves struggling with their inner turmoil while swept up by terrible conflicts they know nothing about. Both endure the hardships of their new lives while attempting to understand and make proper use of a mysterious and terse video-game-like System that pops status notifications into their vision from time to time, but initially has no useful interface. Some of the options they are presented with sound enticing, but as with everything else in life, each choice has benefits and drawbacks... Author's Note: This story makes many changes to the original version, and readers of Mantid will find that many things in Mantis are new and different; especially after the first few chapters. I've learned a ton from writing like a madman, and also from the RR community. I appreciate you guys! :)
