it was October 29th

now this date to many wouldn't be important or at least known as the day before Hallows eve

but for one little boy, it was a very exciting day

the newly aged 4-year-old tokoyami fumikage was celebrating the day of his birth

and in his world 4 years old would be very important

this is because when children get to this age they would start to develop powers that people would call quirks

however, some believed that this birthday would be quite normal as the little boy was born with a quirk

a mutation quirk that had turned his head into a replica of a raven bird, beak and feathers included, whereas he still had teeth

thus nobody expected more from the child

thus nobody was prepared for a shadow-like creature to be summoned out of the little bird's stomach

while tokoyami was waking up, ready to eat his birthday breakfast the room still dark a voice suddenly started to talk

"can I have some juice to?" it asked

whilst his mother and father looked around frantically, tokoyami stayed calm, as if he was used to strange voices

"Mama, what are you looking for?" he eventually asked, looking away from his breakfast

"fumi, didn't you hear that voice? there could be a stranger in our home" his mother said worriedly, holding her son close

"wait, you can hear him too?" tokoyami asked in surprise

his mother and father looked down to him in confusion

"what do you mean son?"

"I keep telling you that I have someone in my head, he talks to me, he's nice" tokoyami explained

his mother and father said not a word, letting their son finish

"I think he was shy since he only talks to me, but now I think he's gotten braver" smiled tokoyami

"ah" was all his father could say

"ok, fumi, we're going to get the house ready for you're a party, why don't you play outside, you're aunts just outside to take you there," his mother said

this made fumikage smile even more

and with a small kiss on tokoyami's head, he and his aunt was of

laving two very confused parents to get ready

"Could it possibly be another quirk?" the father asked anxiously

"possibly" the mother replied with the same amount of anxiousness

his aunt stayed to the benches, pretending to keep an eye on tokoyami but read her book

(she would usually keep an eye on her nephew but she was just really interested in her new book)

maybe if she was more watchful she would see some children start to huddle around her nephew

whilst tokoyami was minding his own business on the swings 3 children started to approach the child

unfortunately, these children were much bigger than tiny tokoyami and were three bullies in that loved to pick on other children in the school which they all went to

"hey is beak freak" laughed one of the children,

all three of them looked like normal 4-year-olds, except their quirk attributes made them very different

the boy's quirk was that he could project yellow paint out of his fingertips

girl 1's quirk was that she could grow her pigtails to extraordinary lengths

and girl 2's quirk was she was able to make water bend to her will

tokoyami was their favourite victim due to all the jokes they could make with his clear visible mutation, not to mention he was the smallest in their class

tokoyami immediately started to stop swinging, fear covering his entire body

"Hey! did you hear us, it's not polite not to answer back" girl 2 commented snidely

"sorry" he quietly mumbled

"What did you say, we don't speak bird" laughed girl 1 which resulted in the others to laugh

tokoyami tried to walk away but something wrapped around his legs causing him to fall and bang his head

"oww" he quietly complained as tears began to form

"aww is birdy going to cry" mocked the boy, and doing so added salt to the wound by using his quirk to cover his face with yellow paint

"fly back to his mummy birdy," girl 2 said as she high-fived her friends

the 2nd girl was ready to use her quirk to add more damage to tokoyami's fragile state, using the water from a nearby puddle

"" shouted a familiar voice, causing all three to freeze

but that's when a black and purple mist like substance started to be projected from tokoyami's body

it had two glowing golden eyes and a beastly shaped body, his head also being in the shape of a bird

it screamed, slashing two large claws around

making all three children scream themselves, running and crying back to their parents

while tokoyami could only look up at the beast in shock and awe

"I'm sorry fumi, but those meanies deserved it!" it said as it calmed down, shrinking down so small that tokoyami could hold it in his hands

"it's you!" exclaimed the little bird

"you're the guy that's in my head, you got brave and now you can stay out and play," tokoyami said happily, hugging the small creature" tokoyami finished stroking the beings small head

"yay!" the being exclaimed with the same level of enthusiasm before it sank back into tokoyami's hands

"what's wrong?" tokoyami asked worriedly

"it's...to bright" the creature responded

"oh" tokoyami exclaimed before looking around the park, finally seeing a big tree that had shade ran over to sit underneath it

"better?" tokoyami asked

"much, thank you" sighed being as he began to get a bit bigger

"How are you, by the way, you took a really bad fall" the being asked as it got it's strength back

"oh, it still stings a little but I'm good, you can't even see it" replied tokoyami as he rubbed his head

"Just because you can't see something doesn't mean it's not there, just like me" responded the figure

"I guess you're right" wondered tokoyami

"anyway since you know my name, I can know yours, you've never told me," tokoyami said looking to the floating mist with wonder

"that's because I don't have one," the figure said, it seemed to shrink with that comment

"well I can give you one...let's think" pondered tokoyami, now it was time for the being to look at tokoyami with wonder

"well, you're like a shadow..and you like the dark...so....how about...dark shadow" tokoyami pondered before exclaiming the name to the being

"dark shadow...I LOVE IT" the newly named dark shadow exclaimed happily as it danced in the air, giving tokoyami a big hug

"fumi dear, time to go" shouted the familiar voice of tokoyami's aunt

"coming!" tokoyami shouted as he came running

as his aunt watched him approach her with his new friend/brother/quirk

her book suddenly became less interesting

once they arrived home everyone was taken surprised by tokoyami's new quirk

and many things soon needed to be changed

good and bad

he was never bullied in school ever again, even though it was in fear of his quirk ripping them a new one

and although dark shadow was weak during the days and could barely lift a teaspoon to stir a cup of tea

in the night and when tokoyami got very upset was a big difference

he was able to smash a small glass window with his claws with ease

thus came tokoyami's training to be calmer and have night lights

but even though dark shadow was a handful tokoyami would never wish him away, not even when the two got into the biggest arguments

they weren't quirk and master

they were brothers of the night
