(this is probably the longest chapter I've ever written)

the search had been going on for 2 months now

teachers and students were all worried sick about one person in particular

this individual was named tokoyami fumikage

a raven headed boy that attended U.A and mentee to the number 2 hero hawks

a student who hosted a very powerful quirk, a literal daemon that he could control at will

and a boy that was now missing due to a failed mission

he and the number 2 hero hawks were coming back after a day of the patrol when an explosion and groups of villains started to attack

fighting for the sakes of the innocent civilians that were being harassed the two tried their best to stop them

the two got the citizens to safety

but there was a cost

whilst hawks was busy with one group of villains

tokoyami was busy with the other

but one villian seemed to have a very powerful light-based quirk and rendered tokoyami to become weaker

and with one swift hammer-like punch to the side of tokoyami's head knocked him out cold

hawks saw this and tried to stop them but a glue-like substance ceased his actions

as a villain hoisted tokoyami's limp body over their shoulder they began to retreat

leaving without a trace

and the number 2 hero staring in despair in a sticky substance

staring as he let his mentee be taken away

it had only been 10 minutes until the police and other heroes began to assist hawks

it only took 2 minutes for hawks to tell them what happened

and with that

the search was on

even as the weeks progressed nobody had stopped searching for tokoyami

everyone was devastated and everyone was anxious

but no one gave up hope

the search had been going on for 2 months now

and they have finally got news of where tokoyami was being held

a letter was delivered to U.A

on the outside, it looked like a normal letter

but inside was anything but

the paper inside had dried droplets of blood staining it's pages, burnt and mangles feathers clung onto these stains and had words that were formed by magazine and newspaper articles

it said:

there were too many emotions that were impossible to count

the entirety of 1 A students ran to the teacher's lounge

and the rescue was in motion

( with the teachers/heroes)

midnight, eraser head, and hawks were travelling to where the address told them their missing student was

hawks hearing this as he was doing his daily surveillances joined the two who were at school for the students as the rest were out fighting criminals

sticking close to the shadows to avoid any publicity

and this meant police and other heroes as well, as they would bring attention to this already delicate situation

they want to get tokoyami into a safe place instead of being dragged into an interrogation room and reporters eager for a new story

the address leads them to an abandoned alleyway that held place to a small apartment

as they entered it they noticed that the floor was stained in red and white

floorboards cracked and fallen

spiderwebs covered every corner of the walls

and a small light was illuminating the basement of the apartment

they began walking down slowly, prepared to take on what could jump out for an attack

but they were not prepared for the sight they were revealed with when they reached down to the last step

it was something in a horror movie

tokoyami's limbs and neck were held back to the mouldy black brick wall by big rusty chains

his feather-like hair was strayed and parted, looking like they were plucked out by force

burns, scars, bruises, cuts and blood covered his exposed body, only wearing white shorts to give him some decency

his beak was cracked in so many areas that it was a miracle it was still intact

his body was bent in ways that nobody should, telling them that tokoyami's bones were broken in parts

his body was scarily thin and shook and twitched

"tokoyami" hawks whispered as he came close to his mentee

the student failed to acknowledge him, his tired eyes shut tight and even if he wanted to say something he couldn't

his beak trapped in a muzzle like contraption

"We need to get these chains of right now" eraser commanded his body shaking with rage as he moved forward to free his student, hawks coming to help him

(how could someone do something as revolting and cruel as this, to a child no less, these people were not villains, they were monsters) he thought

focusing directly on tokoyami they didn't realise the monsters had left a note for them

midnight being shocked to the point was the only one to see it, she picked it and read what it said

it said

midnight felt sick, throwing the letter the furthest away she could

the chains fell with a satisfying thud

and hawks tried to catch tokoyami's lifeless body as it fell to the floor

but tokoyami's eyes bolted wide, feeling the sudden release of weights that restrained him

backing hard into the wall, banged his head with a painful knock as he tried to avoid the contact of his "kidnapper"

screaming hard and thrashing away as two red wings blocked his escape

"tokoyami! tokoyami! stop please, it's me, hawks, we're here to save you" hawks said as he tried to calm down the hyperventilating student

but the raven head didn't stop screaming, agonising pleas to make him stop and let him go, tears streaming down his face

hawks would never imagine seeing his mentee like this, he didn't know what to do

"hold you're breath" midnight instructed as she released her quirk

tokoyami's thrashing soon started to slow down

and as his eyes began to close he once again returned to his slumber

hawks held tokoyami's limp body to his own, hugging him tight and wings around as if he would be taken away from him once again

(once the mist disappeared)

"animals, sadistic manipulative psychotic animals" midnight whispered angrily

"We need to leave, get tokoyami to the hospital ward and track down where those baxxerds are and make sure they get exactly what they deserve," eraser said angrily as he walked to hawks

"he didn't deserve any of this, this is going to scar him forever "hawks cried, getting up but his wings still covering tokoyami's body for protection

"But how can he still have so much will power in the state he's in" asked midnight in shock and sympathy

"adrenaline, the last resort of power before the body shuts down," eraser head said with awe, thankful and proud that tokoyami still had some fight in him, but still worried that tokoyami didn't recognise who they were

"We need to get him out of this hell hole, and to where we can keep an eye on him, to make sure his mental and physical sate get better" eraser said

hawks nodded and began to run out of the building

(whilst the two would stay so they could contact the police and the other hero's so they could properly investigate for clues to where the monsters could have left to)

he didn't want tokoyami to be in such that disgusting little basement anymore, heck, that might not have been where he was before they got the letter

he saw reporters look at him funny, taking one look at the strange scene and started chasing after him

but he was to fast

as hawks ran he noticed 3 very concerning things

tokoyami's breaths were shallow

his pulse was weak

and his body was skinny

(did they even feed him ?) he thought

every thought made him sick and angry

it wasn't long till he arrived at U.A

not bothering with the gate he used his wings to fly over them and straight to the hospital ward

"recovery girl!" he cried/yelled

"you found him" he heard a voice say but it wasn't recovery girls so he didn't care

"He needs help, RIGHT NOW!" he demanded as he showed the nurse the broken and beaten body of tokoyami fumikage

that's when he heard a choir of gasps and crying

all of 1.A Students were in the hospital ward

(1 hour before with the 1A students)

students were made to stay within the dorms, watching the news for any slight glimpse of their lost friend

"do you think that letter was a trap?" midoriya asked worriedly

"most likely, but its the only news we've had in months, they can't check it out," shoji said as he stared at the tv

many students were close to the tv

if not then they were staring out of the window in the hopes to spot their teachers

"We just need to hope that they can get toko back here safe" asui said commonly

which to this everyone nodded in agreement

the disappearance of their classmate had all affected them

they all missed them and could pray that he would be back soon

"Hey what's that?" kiminari asked as he pointed to the news

a red-headed reporter was shouting at a small red figure running past her soon beginning to run behind asking more questions, panting as she and her film crew failed to keep up

"that's hawks!" shouted Kirishima pointing at the tv

all students sprung out of their seats as they watched the number 2 hero get closer to their school

watching as he flew into the air and over the gates

"he's heading to the recovery ward" shouted bakugo as he ran out of the room

the rest closely on his heels

and pushed the doors so hard they snapped of

"recovery girl!" they saw hawks cry/yell as he flew through the window

hawks back to them but a black silhouette showed told them that their lost classmate was finally found

"you found him"ochaco cried in happiness

but that happiness was short-lived

as hawks extended tokoyami to show recovery girl the severity of the tokoyami's state

all students couldn't stop them gasping in shock, many even began to cry

it only then did hawks turn to their attention

(1 hour later)

the students were ushered out

many by force

others with ease

tokoyami was brought into examinations immediately

although recovery girl was a great healer

the severity of tokoyami's situation needed more than just a magical kiss

he had to get blood transfusions

the muzzle on his beak had to be sawed off

but because his beak was so damaged and occupied with an oxygen mask he needed to be fed through a tube

his cuts needed to be cleaned and burns had to have healing cream

and his broken bones needing readjusting

but many times tokoyami woke up to the mass amount of pain he was, as if it wasn't already so vile he couldn't have anaesthesia as he was to close to a permanent coma as it was

it was an agonising hour

it was soon done

but it didn't mean that the 1.Students or even hawks could see him just yet

the hero's soon returning

unfortunately, they found nothing on the monsters

many going to see tokoyami's situation

whilst the others went to their students to answer any questions and stop them if they tried to force their way into the hospital ward

whereas hawks flew off into the night

making eraser head to inform him when he could see his mentee again

(with the students and eraser head)

it was chaos

the students were either

crying

yelling

asking questions

or deadly silent

"what the fxxk happened to him! he looks like shxt" shouted bakugo

"bakugo! he's gone through hell, of course, he looks like that!" Jiro yelled at him

this just made the criers cry harder

"I'm gonna kill those baxxerds!" shoji muttered angrily, this lead to many heads nodding in agreement

"Everyone!" yelled their homeroom teacher

all students became silent and faced Mr Aizawa

"Now, we know that you're all worried about your classmate, but now is not the time to be rash, tokoyami is in a very unstable place right now, and it may be a while before things begin to get better, but the only thing I can advise you is to be there for you're classmate, he needs all the support he can get at the moment" he stated

all students nodding at his speech

tokoyami had always been a great friend, a person that you could always rely on to be there for you

and now tokoyami needed them

(elsewhere with hawks)

hawks were fuming

he needed to find those baxxterds and kill them

which was more mercy then what many would do

but he wouldn't be like that

he would not stoop to their level

flying across the city

he knew one place that could help him in his mission

landing on the pavement floor he opened the door to a very secret place

"ah, hawks, what a pleasant surprise," a familiar voice said smugly

but hawks was in no mood for banter

"I need information, and I think you'll know where to get it," hawks said as he faced where the voice was

dabi

the scarred blue daemon himself

"straight to the point, not like you hawksy" giggled a schoolgirl, toga

"someone close to me was attacked by a gang of psychopaths and I need to give them a lesson in what not to do to school children," hawks said, jaw clenched

an unsettling silence was what was met with that comment

"We might have an idea of which group you mean, and we may consider helping, for a price" dabi said as he came closer to the red-winged hero

"which is ?" hawks asked

"you come and work for us, heck we'll even bring those disgusting filths to you're door to do as you wish" dabi laughed

hawks were silent

it was one thing for him to let these villains roam free to be a spy

but to work with them was another

but he was furious, the memory of finding his mentees little body under all those chains and bruises

he wanted, no, he needed revenge

"deal, once those monsters are of the streets the better" he hmphed as he shook Dabi's hand

but before hawks left he was asked a question

"what makes us different in you're eyes Keigo Takami, why do you want them off the streets so badly instead of us, the literal league of villains," dabi asked, some confusion in his voice

" like I said" hawks began, a sour glint in his eyes

"someone close to me and now I need to teach them a lesson " hawks finished, as he flexed his wings and took off into the air

leaving dabi and toga staring as their newest member flew away

(a few days later at U.A)

tokoyami's physical state had gotten better, his cuts and beak had started healing, and his pulse had gotten better, he was gaining more weight and his burns had started going down

but his mental health was not as easy to mend

once tokoyami had woken you could truly tell he had been through so much

his eyes no longer held the fiery glint but were now replaced with a cloud

he was completely unemotional

unless someone was to close to him he would try to run away, scream or hide in a corner

at night he would scream in his sleep

his friends tried to visit but the nurses would repeatedly say

"he can't deal with to many people, it will trigger flashbacks"

even though they found their friend

he was still lost

so it was up to the students to help him find his way back home

it had been 2 weeks since tokoyami was brought back

but you wouldn't have thought that as he was never allowed outside of the hospital ward

the nurses afraid that his quirk dark shadow could break loose and destroy the whole building

but his friends believed that his mental state wouldn't get better being stuck in a room

and thus began the mission "set the blackbird free"

once most of the nurses had left, the got into motion

opening the door slowly they were finally met with their long lost friend

who was shaking in the corner mumbling and crying

"t.tokoyami" cried asui

the noise made tokoyami's neck snap in their direction

"get, get back" he warned hiding deeper into the corner

"tokoyami, do you recognise us ?" midoriya asked as he came further to the bird boy, coming across in the least threatening away possible

"Please stop, just don't, don't hurt me" he cried

"we will never hurt you" ochaco cried

"lies, you said that before" tokoyami spat

"tokoyami" midoriya he began as he crouched down to his level

"we will never let you get hurt by those villains ever again, you are so important to us, and even if you don't believe us at the moment, we are your family, and family protects one another," he said with a smile

but of course, things couldn't be solved as easily as one simple meeting

thus everyday one after one the students of 1A came into tokoyami's room with treats, gifts and words of encouragement

tokoyami soon started to become more open

and as the days progressed and more people started to visit together

it wasn't long till tokoyami's body had healed fully and tokoyami's eyes showed more life than before

and on one faithful day, tokoyami was ready to be found again

"hey tokoyami," mina said happily as she and the entire 1 A came into visit

tokoyami noticed them but didn't say a word but didn't turn to hide

"How are you feeling," ochaco asked

but once again tokoyami didn't reply

the room was soon filled with an uneasy silence

the only thing that broke the silence was the sound of a breaking news story

"breaking news," the reporter said

tokoyami looking showing interest in the story, which the rest of the students did as well

"Earlier today a group of villains were found dead in a back ally in an old abandoned apartment, showing signs of burns and several breaks in their body"

tokoyami's eyes in one instant became more alive then they had been in weeks, tears forming and body shaking

"police and heroes have shown no trace in whoever has done this...dark justice, more information after-" the reporter said before the tv was shut down

"tokoyami?" asked momo

"It was them wasn't it," Todoroki asked as he came closer to the hyperventilating bird

"I didn't want it...they wouldn't stop" tokoyami cried out

and without warning tokoyami was wrapped in a comforting embrace
