Asui looked out of her underwater hideaway

at the top, it seemed like a simple little cottage by the sea

while at the bottom, it was like a dormant submarine that had filled up with water

perfect for her other half

a mermaid named tokoyami

mermaids were the rarest type of quirks someone could have

and that meant that villains wouldn't pass up the chance to find one

that's why she had to keep him a secret from the rest of the world

which tokoyami was perfectly fine with, not knowing anything or anyone from the surface besides asui herself

within the space of time they had spent with each other they were able to learn a lot and from one another

asui helping tokoyami speak more fluently so she could understand him better

and tokoyami helping her to swim more effectively in water

everything was going "swimmingly"

until one dreaded day changes everything

a villain group was on the move

and was getting closer to the couples hideaway

"They won't find us, I promise," asui said as she came down into the submarine part of the building, not touching the water but still close enough for tokoyami to hold her hand reassuringly

"you cannot promise the unexpected," he said

as his language developed he became more confident and eager to try more difficult words, which were also quite difficult for asui to hear

"I still won't let them take you fumi," she said with a smile

he smiled himself

but a knock was soon heard from the front door

"probably just the mail, wait here," asui said

tokoyami didn't want her to go

but how could he stop her

"I'm sorry but all I have that is valuable in my grandfather's old vase, but it won't get you a lot," she said slowly trying to close the door

"ah, but I have a feeling you're lying," the leader said

even though you couldn't see his face

you knew he was smiling

a crash and scream was heard from downstairs

they found out

she knew that the two figures were walking behind her

smug of her defeat

but that didn't matter

she needed to find fumikage and make sure he was ok

she saw him in an electrifying net, curled up in pain

and two figures were standing above him, quite pleased with themselves

"I love the sound of people in agony" toga said as she swooned

"now, if you hadn't lied, maybe we wouldn't have to punish him for your actions," dabi said condescendingly

the screams continued

but then something even more alarming happened

a shadowy like figure started to emerge from tokoyami's body

and it was angry

with a blink of an eye half of the building was slashed in two

but at the same time

mangled all the figures bodies, leaving them in pain and unconscious

asui included

her legs no longer worked

tokoyami knew this by just looking at them

the creature returned

the frog girls body was almost entirely in the water if it was not for her head

he picked up her unconscious body

and knew exactly what to do

within his wrist was a purple orb that could rejuvenate the sick, the injured and the dead

but would also signify that once you give it to someone else

that both individuals would be together until the very end

and without a second thought

plunged it straight into where her heart was

the purple orb soon became green

and asui was soon once again awake

"fum..fumi" she asked/cried

but he didn't reply, he only hugged her tightly

"We need to leave, it is no longer safe for us," he said as he caught his breath

asui nodded and was about to stand before noticing she couldn't

looking to where her legs would have been was now an emerald green tail with three identical black spots on the two fins

"Wha..." she was about to ask before tokoyami put a finger to her lips

"you were hurt, it was the only way to save you" he cried

asui cupped his face and looked him straight into his eyes

"I love you fumikage and I trust you," she said

she knew that if he thought that this was the only way to save her, then it truly was the only way

"we're in this together, no matter what" she finished, planting a kiss on his beak

"for now until forever" he replied returning the kiss

and with that, they returned to the sea, together and forever

that was the last time, they had ever come back up to the surface
