Flashback #1 to 2006:
𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐈𝐓 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐃, it's hard to accept the fact that they're gone from your life. You might think that it was your fault for their death, you don't ever want to talk to anyone about it or share your thoughts on it and anything that is still happening in your life that reminds you of them is simply heartbreaking.
That was the case for the umbrella academy kids that day. Or, should I say, the ones who were still in the academy or alive. The five of them, Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, and Vanya, walked out into the courtyard with their umbrellas over their heads with no coats or any extra clothing, just with their uniforms, as the soft snow floated in the air before coming down to the ground.
Their mother, Grace, who unlike the kids was with a black coat and hat, followed them from behind with an umbrella as they stood in a circle around their brother Ben's casket which had his photo on it meanwhile as they breathed with every exhale some smoke would come from their mouths.
First Klaus, Diego, and Vanya walked out. Klaus and Diego stood with their blank expressions as Vanya's breath trembled with every sigh while she stared at Ben's casket covered in snow.
They were followed by Allison and Luther who walked out of the mansion as Luther held Allison's hand and helped her walk over to the others meanwhile still holding their umbrellas in their hands.
When they made it to the circle, Luther let go of his sister's arms and let her stand on her own in the circle.
But it didn't take long enough for Pogo and their father to come out of the mansion. As Reginald came to the others, Pogo spoke up.
"Your father is ready to give the eulogy, children."
Call it what you want to, but that eulogy was harsh as hell. "The world is full of injustice." Reginald started his lifeless talking."Good people die along with the bad. This cosmic equation will never change unless evil itself is wiped from existence. Thankfully, there are powerful forces pushing back against the wicked and iniquitous, individuals who have the strength to pull together against insurmountable odds to face adversity with unblinking courage, and not to hesitate to sacrifice themselves for another. Unfortunately, none of you are such people."
Their father actually thought it was acceptable to bash the kids like that at their brother's funeral when all of them are terribly grieving. Neither Pogo nor Grace said anything tho.
"Despite years of training and weeks of preparation, you allowed Number Six to die on this mission."
It was something that drove Allison to the edge. "It wasn't our fault." She gasped and turned to their father as Luther put his hand on her left shoulder to calm her down but didn't look at her.
"Excuses? I will not hear them." Reginald turned to her before back to the others. "The Umbrella Academy has failed one of their own, the consequences of which are dire. Hold on to this feeling, children. Let it fester in your hearts..." All of the kids sniffled as their breath trembled. "...so there is never a next time. Training will be canceled today out of respect for your brother. We resume tomorrow at 6 a.m."
Instantly as their father finished, he walked out on the children as fast as he could. Grace hesitantly looked back at them for one last time before following him with Pogo back to the house.

"It wasn't anybody's fault." Vanya tried to make everything better.
"How would you know, Vanya? You weren't even on the mission." Diego sternly replied to her.
Vanya softly gasped as she looked around her siblings to see if they would say anything to that. But they didn't. Usually, Five or Y/n would stand up to her in these types of situations, but they weren't there. So she stormed out of the courtyard, whimpering as Diego rolled his eyes.
"Nice going, asshole." Luther replied to that ridiculous behavior.
"What? We were all thinking it." Diego tried to reason.
"Oh, so you're thinking, Diego? That's a first." Allison said as she looked up at him and back.
"Screw you!"Diego yelled before he started storming inside the house.
"Hey!" Luther yelled back as he and Allison ran behind him to the mansion. "Dad was right. We should've done more. This didn't have to happen."
"If Five and Y/n would still be here, they would disagree with you because it's the last thing any of us will do. " Diego answered as he walked back into the academy putting down the wet umbrella. Diego wasn't really phased by my Five's disappearance, but he was by Y/n's tho. Pretty much, everyone was, except for Luther.
But that was enough for Allison. Ever since Y/n left with Five, she was alone. She didn't really consider Vanya as her sister so Y/n was the only other girl in the house with her. But when she was gone, she was alone so she wasn't about to let Diego get them in this mess.
"Don't you dare drag Five and Y/n in this, you idiot!" She yelled as she threw the umbrella on the ground pointing at him.
Diego stopped in his tracks and turned around at Allison since they were already in the house.
"They probably won't ever find out about Ben! And it's true, Allison. Neither of us will agree with dad even if our lives will depend on it, especially at this time." Diego lashed out at her.
But then Luther came storming inside and he stood in the middle of the both of them and put his hands on their chests. "Okay, that's enough, Diego." He turned to him.
Diego stared at him unbelievably and said one last insult before storming out on them. "Fuck the both of you."

She was blankly staring at the picture above the fireplace, as the fire crackled from time to time, of Five and Y/n since that was really everything that was left of them for the rest of the siblings as a memory.
"You two are probably feeling great since you don't have to experience the grief and pain we're going through at the moment. And probably never will have to do that." The girl sniffled as she talked with herself.
"But their lives aren't probably easy either." Another voice of a girl spoke behind Allison. She slowly turned around and saw Vanya standing a few feet back away from her with a small and reassuring smile.
"What do you want, Vanya?" Allison asked sternly before rolling her eyes.
Vanya was already given the cold shoulder, but she still started walking to her and sat down next to her on the couch. "I don't think neither Ben nor Y/n would want for us to fight or live against each other anymore."
But Allison just scoffed at that. "Yeah, well, they're not here so it doesn't really matter." She turned back at the painting.

But Vanya didn't let go of it. She thought about what to say for a couple of seconds and still continued with a soft voice."I know how may feel right now, I can't even imagine seeing Ben die in front of my eyes-"
"Okay, that's enough, Vanya." Allison cut her off and stood up as Vanya looked up at her. "Your empathy is the last thing I need right now. You weren't with us and you couldn't have done anything about it, so just let it go already." Allison lashed out before she stormed out on Vanya as the brown-haired girl watched her and thought what had she done wrong.
After a couple of seconds, Vanya stood up and thought about going after but before she went to her room, she turned around at the painting. "I miss you, guys."

They were sitting on the ground around all of the rumbles, but after reading that sentence, Y/n slowly looked away in disbelief, hugging her knees with tears starting to form in her eyes.
"B-Ben died?"
Five looked at her before he started to go through all the other pages not wanting to believe that was true. "No, that can't be right."
Y/n stood up from the ground and pointed at the book. "But it is! Ben died and we couldn't see and be with him at his last moments. But how did it happen? I mean, was he killed or did he-"
"Hey, hey, it's okay." Five stood up and hugged her trying to reassure her. "Let's just hope that his memory was honored." Y/n silently cried into his shoulder for a couple of seconds.
"Knowing dad he probably did it but in the worst possible way." She pulled away from the hug with her hands on his chest.
"Can't argue here." Five replied and they both softly chuckled. "Ben is still with us here."
"I wish I could access Klaus's power, then I could conjure him maybe." Y/n thought to herself out loud.
"I know. But Ben is here and will always be with us. With you."

"𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐀𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏 identifying several persons of interest at Dealey Plaza at the time of the assassination. The FBI believes they may have been acting in concert with the alleged shooter, Lee Harvey Oswald." The reporter on the tv spoke.
All of the siblings, except for Klaus, were downstairs and listening to the news broadcast. Luther and Vanya were standing on one side, Five and Y/n were near the stairs as Five leaned on the handrails while Y/n stood next to him. Diego was leaning on the other handrail and Allison was standing on the stairs.
"Vanya Hargreeves, wanted in connection with the deaths of several FBI agents inside the federal building at Dealey Plaza." The man spoke which caught Vanya's attention. She looked at the photo that was shown in the broadcast.
"A Cuban exile only known as Diego..." The reporter continued which drew Diego's attention to the screens.
"Cuban?" He softly asked himself as the man also showed his photo.
"...who recently escaped from the Holbrook Sanitarium." Then the man moved on to Luther. "A bare-knuckle boxer with suspected Mafia ties who fights under the alias "King Kong"."
Luther watched the tv when he was mentioned and when they showed his photo with Jack Ruby, he rolled his eyes and looked away.
When the reporter started talking about Allison, she looked away from Luther at the screen. "Allison Chestnut, a Negro radical responsible for instigating and organizing the recent riots at Stadler's lunch counter." She smiled sarcastically at that description about her that was said and the picture of her with signs in the city which was also shown.
"And finally, Klaus, the controversial cult leader, and known tax evader." The man showed a drawn picture of Klaus by his people.
Meanwhile, Five and Y/n exchanged some glances like they were having some sort of little conversation.
"Damn, our siblings really do have some titles made here, huh?" Y/n shot that kind of glance.
"It seems like that" Five replied to her.
But their interaction was interrupted when the reporter started talking about them.
"The FBI is asking the public to be on the lookout for these unidentified kids, a boy and a girl, who they believe is being held hostage by the suspected terrorist network..."The man showed a photo of both of them when they were looking over the fence at Diego and the president.
Y/n rolled her eyes out of hilariousness that people actually thought they were being held captive or something. But Five just grinned and nodded at that.
"Well, it's true." Luther, Vanya, and Y/n looked at him. "I do feel like I'm being held hostage most days."
"God, I hate that photo." Diego muttered under his nose.
"They're saying I instigated a riot?" Allison scoffed. "That's unbelievable."
"You sure do have some reputations here, don't you guys?" Y/n sarcastically mocked them.
"Look, the good news is that we restored the timeline and we stopped doomsday." Luther tried to look at the positive side of things. "So-"
But Diego cut him off. "Yeah, a bunch of real goddamn heroes. We let Kennedy die."
"Yeah, and now we're officially the most wanted people in the world." Allison made another reality check to the rest of the siblings as Klaus started walking down the stairs. "The FBI is after us, the Dallas police, the Secret Service. I mean, it's only a matter of time before they hunt us down here."
"Well, where are we supposed to go?" Vanya finally spoke up.
"I have this yurt outside Reykjavik." Klaus said as he fully walked down the stairs. "We could totally lay low there." Allison and Y/n rolled their eyes at that as Klaus walked past everyone. "Folks there are a little weird, but lovely. Welcoming-"
"Hey, numbnuts." Five interrupted Klaus and he turned around. "Hiding's not gonna make a difference here."
Y/n walked a little bit in front of him. "That's right. The commission will hunt us down wherever and whenever we go."
"They're right." Diego tuned in out of nowhere. "They'll never stop."
Five and Y/n looked at Diego with confused looks as to how did he know that.
"I'm sorry, since when are you an expert on the commission?" Five mocked him.
"Since I got back from there."
"What?" The two kids said in unison.
"Yeah, they headhunted me, offered me a job. Full time with benefits, which I had to turn down." Diego simply explained as the kids listened in shock.
"They headhunted you..." Y/n smiled and chuckled pointing at him. "...the village idiot."
"What, am I not allowed to be headhunted?" Diego stood up from leaning on the stairs as the others rolled their eyes. "Only the almighty Five and Y/n need to be in demand?"
"Diego, you're not commission material, all right? Got an obstinate nature to ya." Five pointed at him as he tried to walk away while Y/n stayed in her place but got back when Y/n spoke up.
"Lord knows how the hell you got there."
"Who do you think it was that figured out Vanya was the one that causes doomsday and stopped it? Me. That's who." Diego still didn't let go.
"Hey!" Klaus yelled from across the other side since Vanya put her head down to that.
"I figured it all out on the Infinite Switchboard." Diego leaned into the two teens.
"You were on the Infinite Switchboard?" Five asked confused just as Y/n.
"Hell yeah. I made that machine my bitch. Y'all need to recognize I got shit going on y'all don't even know about." Diego looked at all the other siblings.
"Oh, I'm sorry. You've got things going on?" Allison said as she sat on the stairs.
"This isn't helpful. It really isn't." Luther walked past the three of them with his head down trying to think.
"Diego, could you just stop it for once? The world does not revolve around you." Y/n walked away from the two men to the side since she had enough.
"Look, I met the Resistance in their secret lair." Diego still kept trying to prove his point as Klaus chuckled at that and Vanya walked up the stairs to the second floor. "All right? I went through orientation and I passed and I stopped doomsday. At least I wasn't busy playing with myself..."
"Can you dispense with the dick-measuring for five minutes?" Allison interrupted his speech.
Klaus also wanted to tune into that. "Unless you can literally 'cause Ben and I-"
"We don't have time for this." Y/n groaned as she rubbed her eyes with her palms because of exhaustion.
"The Feds could be here any minute." Luther said as he walked around.
"That's what I've been saying." Allison replied.
"I'm agreeing." Luther and Allison were still able to be the ones who agree with everything even at a time like this which was, frankly, annoying.
"Okay, calm down, Hairy-" Five mocked Luther's ridiculous name.
"Hey, it's King Kong. And I'm sick of your ass." Luther pointed at the boy.
"Yeah, okay, you win." Diego let his hand out to signal to Luther that he needed to calm down.
"Guys, we need to move, okay? That is more important here. That is our only option." Luther continued as Vanya came down the stairs and first inspected what was going on.
"We need to box those windows and stay here." Diego suggested.
"I'm leaving." Vanya spoke up and everyone stopped talking. They stared at her in utter silence before Allison stood up from the stairs.
"What? To go where?"
"To Sissy's farm. Something's wrong with Harlan, and I need to help him." Vanya said all scared and worried.
"Vanya, we need to stick together, okay?" Y/n slightly came loser to her. "Now more than ever."
"That's why I'm telling you this." She looked at the girl and back at the others. "Whatever's going on with Harlan, I think I might've caused it."
"How?" Luther asked.
Vanya sighed and tried to talk with a huge lump in her neck as tears started forming in her eyes. "He drowned, and, uh, somehow I was able to bring him back to life. And now it's like we're connected." But everyone just squinted their eyes at her in confusion.
"Wh...What does that even mean?" Luther still kept bombarding her with questions.
"I don't know. I can't explain, but..." Vanya took a moment to calm down and collect her words. "...I know that he needs my help." She sighed softly hoping that the others will understand her. "I need your help, too. I'm scared. And for the first time in my life, I don't wanna do it alone. I want my family by my side." Vanya looked at Klaus and he gave her a sympathetic look.
But no one dared to say anything: Y/n and Klaus kept looking at Vanya and thinking what to say, Five and Allison looked down and avoided eye contact with anyone, Luther didn't understand a thing Vanya said. But Diego was the first to respond to Vanya's pleading.
He walked in front of her away from Luther with his hands crossed. "Look, I'm sorry." Vanya's face lost hope and she looked at him in disbelief and fear. "We have other priorities right now."
"Diego's right." Five finally said something. "For once. We need to make our stand here and now."
Y/n looked at Five with a look that said "You have to be kidding me" but he just shrugged and looked away. Meanwhile, Vanya looked at Five, then at Allison who looked away after they locked eyes, then she looked at Klaus but he looked down. In an instant, she lost all hope that her siblings might help her.
"Okay. I guess I'll see you when I see you." She said for the last time before walking away from the siblings and through the back door to her car.
Meanwhile, Five walked away from all the others upstairs and Y/n followed him. He scurried up the stairs and when he made it to the top, Y/n put her hands in the air in disbelief.
"What the hell was that?"
Five scratched his neck and replied as he turned around to look at her. "What do you mean?"
Y/n started walking closer to him. "Our sister has to face something she is actually scared and you just said that we can't go with her? Are you joking right now?"
