THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME LIFE WITH YOUR COMMENTS.
Symantha POV
I watch Dove sleeping soundly on the couch next to me before pulling out my phone.
"This is Drake." My annoying uncle greets me with loud music in the background.
"Where are you, sir?" I ask calmly, beginning to play with Doves hair. I see her visibly relax.
"Glenns house. Why?"
"It's just loud. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know, if you hurt my darling friend Dove, I will shove my fist so far up your ass you'll taste nail polish for a year." I warn him and I can almost hear his eyes rolling.
"I can only hurt her if she lets herself get too close." He snickers into the phone and I feel the overwhelming urge to throw something. I remove my hand from Doves hair so I don't rip it out of her skull.
"Go to Hell Drake." I growl into the phone.
"Yes sir!" He responds before hanging up. I toss my phone to the side before standing. I start pacing back and forth.
He's such an asshole.. He doesn't know what all shes been through. He doesn't know the nightmares or how close she is to being healed. If he screws her over.. She'll be destroyed. I don't think she can take anymore. I tried to warn her. I tried to tell her the truth about him. But she wouldn't listen! She wouldn't.. She wouldn't.. She wouldn't..!
I shake my head clear to find my foot stuck in a hole of the front casing of our DVD player. The rest of the player seems to be lodged in the wall.
"Sym..?" Doves sleepy voice wafts through my brain and I quickly put on a smile before turning to her.
"Yeeeeessss?" I drag it out like I have no idea my foot is enveloped in cheap plastic.
"Are you okay?" She asks and I shrug.
"Yeah. Just got excited over the next book of my favorite series coming out and I accidentally took it out on our DVD player." I chuckle to try and sell it and she grins.
"You dangerous psychopath." She teases me and I grin for real.

"Damn straight!" I laugh and she turns away from me.
"Well I need sleep so goodnight."
"Okay kid, sleep well. Night." I watch quietly as her breathing becomes even before working to dislodge the player from the wall. Damn you Drake, look what you made me do. I finally get it out of the wall and set it down on the coffee table. I check my phone to see what time it is.
2:45 A.M.
It's not that late but if I stay up any later I might kick something else into the wall. But I know I won't be able to sleep.
Think Sym. What could you possibly do to be productive?
You're right Mikell. But working out right now would just be annoying.
Then go draw or some shit. Or go walking, that's fun too.
I could go record..
Good. Go do that.
I trek up the stairs to my room and sit down at my computer. I turn on my Fruity Loops Music Maker and put on my headphones. I start zoning out of the real world as my peripheral becomes blurry.
Dove POV
I wake up on something cold and hard. I slowly lift my face to reveal that one, I had rolled off the couch onto the floor, and two, I'm lying in a puddle of my own blood. I hold my nose to stop the bleeding as I get up. I stumble over to the bathroom before starting to clean myself up. I finally get my nose to quit bleeding and somewhat cleaned up.
"Uhhhh... Dove?" Leo calls from the front room and I walk over. I see the dried puddle of blood and my concerned looking brother.
"Are you okay?" He asks as I get my board.
"Obviously not since I just woke up and look like the victim of a crime scene." I roll my eyes at him and he shrugs.
"Hey I just wanted to make sure you were alright. No need to be so hostile." He puts his hands up in surrender and I feel my blood start boiling.
"No need to be so hostile? REALLY?"
"Sorry, sorry. I'll clean this up. Go.. Shower or something."

"Is that an order?" I'm trying to restrain myself from punching him before turning and stomping back to the bathroom. I don't want to do anything he tells me to, but I'm seriously debating a shower. I scowl at myself in the mirror as I decide I'll take a bubble bath.
"Oh hey Dove. Sorry." Sym startles me as she enters the room. Instead of backing out, she just steps in and shuts the door behind her. I sink lower in the tub and pull the curtain to shield everything but my face.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING." She looks surprised at my question for a second before shrugging.
"Brushing my teeth?" She replies nonchalantly as she starts squeezing toothpaste onto her toothbrush.
"CAN YOU COME BACK LATER OR SOMETHING? I'M KIND OF NAKED RIGHT NOW."
"Dove, I'm not an idiot... I know you're naked.. but I really don't care... Skin is skin," Sym explains why she wont leave in between her scrubbing her teeth clean, "Besides, I really need to brush my teeth. I can feel the Rockstars I had earlier rotting away my teeth."
"Earlier? What time is it?"
"Ten till."
"Ten till what?"
"Oh... Ten till seven. I had Rockstars.. earlier because I didn't sleep." Now that she mentions it, the dark circles under her eyes seem especially prominent.
"Is it because of that whole DVD player thing that happened?" I can't remember why she did it, but I remember her having her foot through the players frontal framing.
"Yeah." Sym spits out the foam and water before rinsing her mouth. I just make a 'hm' noise before sinking entirely into the tub. I hear some overhead blurbs before the door opens and shuts again. I let out all of the air in my lungs and watch as the bubbles float to the surface. Its so peaceful down here. I don't get why people dont hang out underwater more often.
Cause we kinda need oxygen to breath.
Oh right, air!
The feeling of suffocating overtakes me all of a sudden and I shoot to the top of the tub. I struggle to find air as everything starts coming back into focus.
"...In there! You're a boy!" Sym suddenly says and I can basically hear the frustrated puff of air that comes with the tone shes using.
"I'm gay Sym. Its not like I'm gonna attack her or something." Masons voice wafts through and I freak out at the thought of him walking in here, which makes breathing even more difficult.
"Who knows! Maybe she has the body of a goddess and turns you bi or something." I appreciate Sym making dumb and invalid excuses for me, though I'm pretty sure it won't work.
"That's ridiculous and you know it. If it makes you feel better I'll knock first." I can tell Masons rolling his eyes at her.
"Fine." There's three knocks at the door and I stand up to grab a towel, having finally regained oxygen to my lungs. The door opens as I wrap the towel around myself.
"Dove, the Luna needs to see you right away."
"Can I at least get dressed first?" He seemed to actually think it over before nodding.
"Yeah. But be quick about it."
We walk to my room and I shut the door before quickly throwing on a pair of shorts and a tanktop. I leave my room and we walk to the doctors office.
"Did she ever tell you she wants to see me?"
"No. She said she wanted to keep it a surprise." He mutters as we turn into the office to see her filling out some paperwork.
"Ah, Dove. Precisely who I wanted to see." She takes off her glasses with a broad smile before gesturing to a couple chairs. We sit and I grab onto Mason's hand nervously.
"So what's up?" Even my voice in my head is shakey. She closes the door and my heart jumps into my ears. She sits back down and her face goes very grim.
"I was just checking over your scans from when you were here the other day and I felt like you should know.." She speaks softly, as if I was a small rabbit, before she breaks out into a large grin. "..We're ready to start your physical therapy."

After the End: Serenity
We all want to believe we are heroes of our own story - unless we want to be the villain, of course. At the end of everything, the Final Reaper decided he hadn’t been a hero. Driven by a desire to right the wrongs he was subjected to, he killed everyone who wronged him or his people - which turned out to be everyone that wasn’t killed by someone else first. He'd won - but it was a hollow victory. Eventually, Order’s Voice found a way out. If the only existing being would agree to give up most of his power, the Voice could reset the multiverse to an earlier time with a few minor changes. Of course, the Voice couldn't ask it that way. It could only ask if the Final Reaper was willing to start over from when Earth was first brought into Order. It was an easy decision, and yet it wasn’t. Was he willing to go through eons of pain again to not be alone? Yes. In a heartbeat. Not that his heart beat anymore. Now it would. Perhaps he could even be a hero, this time. When he landed in his old body - more or less - on Earth, the Final Reaper once again became Thomas. He was both and neither. He needed a new name for a new life. Serenity. ------------------------------------------ While this is technically a System Apocalypse story, it's a System Apocalypse that is designed to have a large percentage of the population survive and prosper. There are a lot of problems that come with the appearance of the Voice, and it's entirely possible to lose. Earth has some special opportunities, but also special challenges. The first time around, Earth won the first round and lost the second. Serenity has ten years from when the Voice arrives to prevent that from happening. It will be a group effort; Serenity can't win alone - which is difficult for someone who's been alone for as long as he has. Of course, that's only his second priority. ------------------------------------------- Updates Daily A note on the nonhuman lead tag: He isn't human, and hasn't been human for a very, very long time (or maybe not long at all, depending on how you count it). He still thinks of himself as human, either way. The content warnings are mostly to give me room to write; this fiction is not intended to be edgy, but once in a while a character will swear or someone will get seriously injured. The cover image is a Chandra/Hubble composite image of VV 340 / Arp 302 / UGC 9618. While we're not going to space itself any time soon in the story, people from elsewhere are coming to Earth and Serenity will visit other planets. Plus, I like space imagery.
