"My ass too big, my waist too small my face too cute." Amber's mom rapped as she cut up some vegetables.
"Shole isss" Chris smirked, this caused Amber's face to immediately scrunch up.
"I'm making shrimp and grits. You want some of this for dinner?" Ariele asked her daughter.
Amber shook her head, over the last few months she had started to develop an unhealthy relationship with food. She didn't really eat, she would only snack here and there.
"Mmm" Chris sounded. "I ain seen you eat all day Amb."
Ariele scrunched up her face "Me neither, imma make you a plate.."
i wish he would shut the fuck up sometimes. Amber thought.
"Whatever" Amber said before getting on her phone.
"Chris, I need some shrimp. Can you go buy some?" Ariele asked.
Chris eyed the bag of shrimp already sitting on the counter but decided to keep his mouth closed.
"Yea text me what kind." He nodded as he stood up and grabbed his keys.
Once Ariele heard the door close, she turned to Amber.
"Put the phone down please, I need to talk with you."
Amber rolled her eyes, but put the phone down.
"Girl don't make me- never mind. I don't like this behavior you've been displaying recently. You're rude, very disrespectful towards me and everyone else, your attitude is disgusting, and you act like everything is inconvenient to you. I can't keep dealing with this, I'm pregnant Amber. I've been talking to your dad and I think it's best that you stay with him for a while."
Amber stayed silent for a minute.
"So you're kicking me out to start a new family..that's fine" she broke her silence with a dry laugh then stood to her feet.
"Amber that is not the case at all, I'm high risk in this pregnancy and you can't seem to act right. You're seventeen years old, I shouldn't have to be dealing with this and constantly correcting you."
"Okay, tell him that I'll be there in a hour, I don't wanna be here anyway." Amber scoffed and headed up the stairs, to her room.

As soon as she got upstairs, Amber located her suitcases and began to pack all of her belongings.
"Fuck ass shit" she mumbled, gathering all her shoe boxes.
Amber knew her attitude was getting bad, but she had never expected her mom to do something like this.
Although she loved her dad, they didn't have the best relationship. He would call to check up on her every so often and vice versa, but the two often bumped heads.
After hurriedly packing, Amber got all her stuff into suitcases and was currently putting them into her car.
Ariele watched, and had the idea to take the car back, but decided against it.
"Let me know when you ready to talk like an adult, since you so grown." She said to her daughter.
Amber ignored her and continued on.
"Bye" she mumbled as she carried the last suit case out and slammed the front door shut.
Her phone connected to the radio once she turned her car on and began to play.
"I gave it all for a fantasyyy, is anybody gon remember me?" She sang along as she pulled out of the driveway.
Before heading to her dad's house, she decided to stop at Chic fil A.
Once she got her food, Amber soon pulled into his driveway.
"Mama," Rodney, her father, smiled.
She gave him a small smile then accepted his hug.
"Hey daddy"
"How you been?" He asked, wrapping his arm around around her shoulders and leading her inside.
"I've been okay.. wait I have to get my stuff." She said but he pulled her back.
"Your brothers gon get it. Come say wassup to Lisa and your sister." He said causing her to internally groan.
Another reason Amber and Rodney didn't get along was because she felt that he treated her differently compared to her siblings.
"Hey Amber," Lisa gave her a warm smile, she was deemed tolerable by Amber.
"Hi guys." Amber gave her a small wave then turned to her sister, Imani and her younger brother Isaiah.
"How you been?" Imani asked.
Amber stiffly nodded "Good."
Imani and Amber never got along, whenever they were around it wasn't long before they began to argue.

"Wassam mama," she smiled hearing her eldest brother's voice.
"Tataaa" she laughed as he pulled her into a hug.
"Don't call me that shit." Israel hugged her tighter.
"Ight forget me." Iman said mugging them.
A lot of people would refer to Iman, Imani, and Amber as ghetto triplets. Iman and Imani were biological twins while Amber was two months younger.
She laughed and pulled away from Israel to hug him.
It was safe to say that Israel was her favorite brother. He always called to check in on her, and even sent her money monthly.
Imani rolled her eyes at the interaction between her siblings then turned to her dad.
"How long she gon be in our house?" She asked causing Amber to turn and mug her.
"Imani Nicole," Lisa scolded.
"Bitch-" Amber started before Rodney cut her off.
"Watch yo fucking mouth," he said.
She smacked her teeth "This what I be talking about, you ain say nothing to her but I couldn't even finish my sentence and I'm getting yelled at."
Israel wrapped his arm around her shoulder and began walking before the situation could escalate further.
"Me and Iman put your bags in the room, you want help unpacking?"
Amber nodded and continued with him.

"What you been up to?" Israel asked as the two folded her clothes and watched TV.
"Nothinggg, I actually started track." Amber told him.
She loved that her brother was always interested in what she had going on, she didn't get that often.
"Still fucking wit Monte?" Israel looked up at her, waiting for a response.
Israel always told her to leave Monte every chance he got, but of course Amber didn't listen.
"Yea.. and Israel I'm not in the mood to hear about it." She said glancing up at him.
"I don't give a fuck, that nigga be dogging yo ugly ass out bad. You're such a beautiful girl and you far from dumb, you don't need that nigga for shit. Why you still messing wit him?"
Deep down, Amber knew that her brother was right, but Monte had given her a feeling that she didn't get often, he made her feel wanted.
"I love you mama" Israel told her.
"I love you too." She gave him a small smile before picking up a pair of sweats.
Soon, the two finished folding and putting Amber's clothes away.
"Ma said dinner almost finished." Iman said poking his head into the room.
Amber nodded "Come chill with us"
She laid down, then Israel laid at the foot of her bed.
"Y'all so annoying" she laughed as Isaiah made a spot on the bed.
"Why you staying wit us and not yo fine ass mama?" Iman asked.
"Nigga that's our sister mama" Israel and Amber scrunched up their faces.
"She ain my blood." Iman shrugged.
Amber shook her head "She said I gotta bad attitude and-"
"No cap there, she right about that one." Israel said.
"Anywaysss I guess her and Chris starting a family and she don't need me there." Amber finished.
"Why you lying?" Iman eyed her.
"I'm not.."
"Nigga that don't even sound like Ms. Ari."
Amber rolled her eyes "Is dinner ready?"
Iman looked down at his phone and nodded.
The family was finishing up dinner when Rodney spoke.
"Me and Lisa wanna lay down some rules for you."
Amber did a small eye roll knowing it was about to be foolishness.
"That fucking attitude right there-" Rodney started before Lisa cut him off.
"I told you about cussing at her." She side eyed him then spoke again.
"Amber your attitude isn't the best and no one in this house will be dealing with it, so let it go. Second, we ask that you just pick up after yourself, we do have a cleaning lady so there's no chores but just keep your area neat."
"And we also want you to feel welcomed, I know you don't come here often but this is your home too. So would you join us in the theater for a movie?"
Amber nodded "Sure.. what are we watching?"
"Homeeee" Isaiah smiled.

Almost a Good Person
A memory, a memory of a boy who wanted more than pain, of a girl who wanted more than death, and an Isle that should not exist. The Isle of Red is a small, unassuming, quiet place. It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. We teach mostly the same sort of disciplines here, with fantastic and absolutely normal professors.I must conclude that I am quite smitten with myself. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. A beacon in the storm to show him the stunning pastels and brightness the sun may yet refract through his thinner, sharper pieces. Theoline will lead as she always has- well not always, not yet. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello!
