《Pure Heart {EJ x Reader}》Chapter 22: One Year?

The small little town was quiet this morning, nothing but the dark obsidian sky and light stars were seen. It had been a year since anything really happened that was interesting, now it was just quiet and peaceful, kinda boring. A (y/h/c) colored woman was working on a little paper that was assigned in one of her classes to which she found less appealing, it was a little essay that asked about writing what she had done over the winter and summer breaks. Her mind raced with the many stories she could write down or tell others, but she chose to keep them a secret for obvious reasons.
'No one would believe me.'
She let out a deep sigh before setting down the paper in front of her, deciding to write it down on paper since she had no money for a laptop. That is why she decided to get a part-time job at/a (Part-time/job), it didn't pay much but it helped even just a little bit. Deciding to finally leave, (Y/n) gets up from a chair that sat in the public library of the town. After grabbing everything she had and putting it in her bag, she heads out of the library and onto the sidewalk to her next destination. While walking, she takes in the beautiful night sky that lay above her. The stars were brighter tonight, it's been a while since she's seen them like this. The world seemed to be more darker than it was about a year ago without a certain someone by her side, memories came across her mind while thinking back all those days and weeks ago. Even if she was in danger a lot back then, (Y/n) still wouldn't have changed it. Especially if she couldn't see him again, the pain in her heart seemed to come back to her.
"Damn feelings, I hate them."
She whispered to herself while clenching her chest, right over her aching heart. Holding her tears in, she continues walking the pathway. The only thing lighting her way was the moonlight and a couple street lamps that covered the sidewalk, it was a chilly night, causing her to shiver. Stopping under a street lamp, she grabbed her backpack on her back and opened it to the bigger part of it. A familiar cooling smell eroised from within the backpack that sent shivers down her spine with delight, reaching into the bag, she pulled out a familiar blue sweatshirt. The clothing was a little worn out from the year but she didn't mind, it brought her comfort...A sense of belonging to be in the other's arms that owned the jacket. Though it was a little strange, she lifted up the sweatshirt to her nose and sniffed it. The smell of fresh rain in the morning still lingered on it, though you would think it would be gone after a year.
"I miss you.."
The words seemed to strike a cord because a tear subcutaneously fell from her glossy eye, she quickly wiped it away and put the sweatshirt over her head and over her freezing body. The sweatshirt quickly warmed up her body, (Y/n) let out a sigh of satisfaction before heading into her intended direction.
The sounds of wind brushing against the trees filled the quiet air, it would be sleuthing if the reason she was here wasn't so heart-wrenching. The entrance to the graveyard was a little rusty from age but it still stood tall, the sign read, "(Town Name)'s Cemetery." (Y/n) stared at it for a couple seconds before dropping her gaze onto the little stone graves that laid on the ground, memories flooded her mind about who she wanted to visit. It took her awhile before finally finding the grave of who she wanted so badly to talk to after the year they've been apart, it almost seemed like it was a dream. Getting closer and closer to the grave seemed to get harder and harder, as if her body got heavier and heavier with each step. The grave was now only a foot away before she stopped in her tracks, the smell of fresh daisies lay at the foot of the grave.

"Hello..." (Y/n) paused, taking a deep breath before looking that the gave.
"I finally had the courage to come see you, I'm sorry for not coming sooner but I couldn't..Not after what you did to me." Tears finally found their way out of her eyes, they didn't hold much meaning in them. The small droplets of water were just for show, she didn't really feel any sadness towards them. She didn't feel bad at all for their death, the only reason she was crying was because of how much it hurts to see them again.
"I don't hate you...Not completely-" She cut herself off before sitting beside the grave, letting herself lean against it's cold surface. (Y/n) stared up at the sky while thinking of what to say, her breath could partially be seen in the cold night air.
"I don't blame you for ignoring me for my whole life, it wasn't your fault...Mom." The last word was hard to say, especially after everything that's happened.
"Mom, why did you think I wasn't worth it? Was it because I reminded you of Dad? I guess it was partially my fault for being born, not everything though. My life was a living hell, you made it so difficult to love life when you weren't even apart of it. Though I wish you were, we could have had so much fun together. I wanted to kill myself, you know? Or you did know and just didn't care. Even if you didn't, I found someone who did care. Someone who loved me for me and wanted me to live, He loved me for my flaws and corks even when no one else wanted him too. I know you wouldn't have approved of us but I don't care, I love him to the extent of loving someone or even more."
It took a lot of courage to say anything to her mother, but she got the last word out without any regret. Suddenly a flash of white hit her view, it looked tall and skinny. Realizing who it was, she gets up from her stopped but before leaving she turns to the grave one last time.
"I loved you, still do."
Then, she was off into the woods. It took a couple minutes to finally get far enough from human civilization, but when she was out of anyone's view, she called out.
"Slenderman? You there?"
She called out to the slender man whose skin was as white as snow, his suit was high tailored into a nice suit with a blood red tie. The figure suddenly appeared in front of her without warning, she jumped a little but didn't move. It stared at her with non existing eyes, staring into her soul. He knew why she was here and he didn't intend to break his promise...
"I-is he going to be o-ok?!" The girl frantically looked over the boy's body before holding his hand tightly in her's, Slender stood behind them, watching quietly.
"Yes, he'll be fine. He was injured before you stabbed him so it might take longer for him to recover, one of his lungs was punctured along with a broken rib." A woman in a nurse outfit stood beside her while (Y/n) had a panic attack at the nurses words, (Y/n)'s head raced with those words.
'It's my fault'
'I did it'
'I HURT him..'

Tears poured out of her eyes while she clung to Jack, he was laying down on the bed asleep from the drugs the nurse woman gave him. They seemed to knock him out cold while she worked on him, it seemed to heal him too. The room was silent before (Y/n) stood up and looked over at the nurse, smiling weakly.
"Thank you- uh.."
"Nurse Ann, Just Ann is fine." (Y/n) gave her a genuine smile before nodding.
"Thank you, Ann." Ann smiled under her mask and nodded as well, heading out the door before looking back one more time. (Y/n)'s smile dropped before she turned to the sleeping man in front of her, her face was dry now but her heart ached. Slenderman watched her, listened to her thoughts. He didn't know of her until hearing Jeff speak of Jack finding a "Strange woman" a couple weeks ago, it was strange to see Jack interacting with a human like that. He could tell she was a kind hearted person with no hate truly in her heart, it surprised him a little to see no hatred in a human as they normally are hateful things.
"" Slender's sudden voice made (Y/n) jump a little and swiftly turn around to face him. She gave him a confused look before asking, her voice was barely above a whisper.
"W-what do you mean?"
"Give Jack a year, he needs to clear his mind of what's happened lately. The incident with Zalgo is out of hand too, we need time to fix things. It would be best if you went back to your town and finish school, I'm speaking in the best interests for Jack. He is one of my best and I want him healthy, strong minded, and straightened out."
(Y/n)'s mouth opened wide as did her eyelids, a whole year? Could she wait that long?
"If you think that's what's best for him, I'll do it then. But, can I see him again?" Slender thought about this for a second before crossing his arms, he didn't trust her but Jack seemed too.
"" (Y/n) smiled weakly, she didn't want to leave Jack's side at his most time of need but she knew she would just be a pest to him. He would probably get worse if she stayed with him, she didn't want to take that chance. A groan was heard from behind her, her eyes widened as she swiftly turned around to meet a stirring Jack. (Y/n) turned back around to look at slender, giving him one final request.
"May I say goodbye to him?" Slenderman nodded before teleporting away, (Y/n) turned around to be faced with a half awake Jack. She smiled a true smile before walking slowly towards his side, Jack groaned again.
"Damn head, did I land on a rock?? And my fucking side, What the HELL??" Jack whined like a child, (Y/n) let a giggle past her lips. This caught Jack's attention, he opened his eyelids to be met with (Y/n).
"(Y/n), are you normal now? I don't wanna get hurt again..." He gave her a suspicious look, causing her to giggle again.
"No, I'm fine. But what about you? I hurt you." Her expression changed to worry again as she checked him again, making sure the wound was not bleeding through. Jack laughed at her worriedness, (Y/n) perked up as soon as she heard his laugh. Oh how she missed his beautiful laugh, it was so uplifting to her. She smiled at him, causing him to smile back.
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to hurt you."
"It's fine, it could have been worse.."
"Uh huh, what could I have done that could have been worse? I got noodle arms." She laughed at her own joke.
"You could have told me, you didn't love me." This cut her laughter short as a deep blush crossed her face, Jack stared at her before grabbing her arm lightly. She yelped as he pulled her into the bed with him and into his chest, he hugged her tightly. She blushed hard but hugged him back, with just as much love as he was giving her. They parted a little bit so they could see each others faces, Jack was the first to speak.
"I love you, can I kiss you?" (Y/n) was caught off guard by this, holding her breath, she nodded quickly. Jack giggled before grabbing the side of her face with his hand and bringing her head up slowly, He closed his eyes, as did she. The sensation of lips met each others, both pairs of lips were soft and cold to the touch. This sent a shiver down (Y/n)'s spine, it had been a while since she kissed him, already noticing how much she missed his touch. Neither one wanted to end it but (Y/n) pulled away knowing what she had to tell him, Jack gave her a pouting face.
"Jack, I have to leave..."
"What?"
"I have to leave for a year, Slenderman told me it was for the best...But I don't want too, I love you." She held in her tears, she had recently become a crybaby and had finally gotten tired of it. Jack gave her a stern look before bringing her lips back onto his for a quick peck, it still felt good even for a couple seconds.
"I don't want you to go..." Jack repeated this between his kisses as he placed them all over her face, he stopped only to look her in the eyes.
"."
Slenderman's voice ringed throughout the room, the two love-sick teens look back at him. Jack sighed deeply before nodding, a sad expression still on his face.
"Will we see each other again?" He looked into her eyes, he already knew the answer but wanted to hear it himself.
"Yes, I promise."

Four story anthology
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] [participant in #NaNoWriMo] Preface: This fiction will contain four different stories set up as a challenge for myself and to get better at writing. The challenge for royal road writathon is a 55.555 word goal while the nanowrimo challenge is 50.000 words. Reader suggestions is turned on, feel free to point out errors I missed and I'll fix them up! Chasing sun, napping softly: Cultivation/Xianxia genre. Some parts will poke at the ridiculousness of the Xianxia gerne. We follow the life of a magical fox monster, who doesn't like how the cultivation world works. Said beast seems to have more knowledge than is usual for normal magical beasts. In it's infinite wisdom it decided to search for the main character of the cultivation world to have a cozy and safe place beside him. Our fox will act as a "wise beast" to coast along on the main characters rise to greatness, all for peace, happiness and that amazing napping spot in the sun. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing in first person. Comedic effect between talking vaguely and sounding wise. The cost of heroism: A story more centered around fights and mental health of hired mercenaries/heroes. The world is infected with an eldritch corruption. Humans are trying their best to explore and clear out wilderness and the dungeons hiding in them to establish new cities. Lords seek for hired hands to do the professional work. Thanks to the setting, the story will show how awful pasts are the norm and how pragmatic people became thanks to that. People exchange their sanity for riches, fame and gods acceptance. Interpersonal relationships change drastically and quickly. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing grim scenes/imparting a feeling of how grim the world is. Writing fight scenes. Showing different mental states. Describing their influence on people during fights, walks or even after successful or failed campaigns. Who will be the next powerhouse? : A story about a gaming show, it's host Staan and the different participants. Stereotype characters, stereotype backstories, silly challenges and quizzes. The winner of those challenges gets powerups for their power system. Be it magic, ki, psychic power or anything else imaginable and unimaginable to reach the power of gods. The challenges for myself with this story: A softer tone for storytelling. Making the reader smile and enjoy themselves. A different try at slice of life story. I was left behind on earth as my family conquered another world and enjoys riches, but that's okey because I got a cheat too! : Stereotypical Isekai story parody twisted into an Urban Fantasy story. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing over the top and overdramatic scenarios/scenes Writing in first person. Walking into stereotypical scenarios and making them more dramatic/giving them a twist. Different type of humor.

Luster
Growing up with her recently deceased mother’s addiction and her own struggles with gender identity, June Fujiwara was not a nice person. Gaining powers from nearly being murdered didn’t change that, and neither did becoming a mercenary to fund her transition. It took horrific manipulation, the resulting trauma, and the family that helped her through it all. Luster is a derivative work based on Worm by Wildbow (John C. McCrae) that begins prior to Worm and although it doesn't show straight away, the story is very AU.
