《Pure Heart {EJ x Reader}》Chapter 18: Broken Memories

Pain...
That's all I felt when I sat alone in the darkened room of the mansion-like building that was now my forever home, my body felt weak and you could almost see my bones because I became so skinny over the spam I was here. I had only been here for 2 days but it was the worst 2 days of my life, nothing could compare to the loneliness I felt in that dark isolated room where my food would be slid under the door to the room. I didn't eat the food though, I just pushed it away and sat in a dark corner of the carpet covered room. I hid my face within my knees to hide my tear filled eyes that just wouldn't stop, I couldn't stop.
"No, I want... I don't want it.."
I mumbled to myself as I began to rock back and forth, I felt my sanity starting to fade the longer I stayed in this horrible place. My memories had started to fade along with it, I couldn't remember anything past when I first left my mother.
'Why did I leave her? Was I just being stupid?'
My thoughts were all jumbled up and broken from lack of communication, but I didn't want to communicate with anyone except for Jack. The thought of Jack was the only thing keeping me from killing myself and loosing the last of my sanity, you might think I'm just being a baby and overreacting to the situation but in those 2 days I had been in the darkness alone with no sleep. No one but myself in the depths of the darkness and couldn't leave because the door was locked from the outside, the first few hours of the first day I had thrown a tantrum and thrown all the furniture at the door in hopes it would break. But to no avail.
All I wanted was to be with Jack again, even if he didn't want me anymore. My thoughts also consisted of when Jack and I had kissed before we were separated, I had wondered if it was on purpose or just in the heat of the moment. Even if it was just in the heat of the moment, I had never been more happy in my life, it felt so good and made me want more from him. I didn't stop myself when I thought about different things that could have been if he loved me back, I stopped thinking and widened my eyes.
'Love me back....I love him?'
A smile subconsciously appeared on my cold and dry lips, I felt more tears flow from my eyes as I realized my feeling towards Jack. I had liked him for a couple of days prior to the incident with Blades and hadn't realized how much my feelings had started to grow over time until now, my heart started to ache in a way of regret and sadness when I realized something. I would never see him again. Even if he didn't return my feelings I would have told him anyways, I would have felt better if I had gotten it off my chest and would have been able to live on with my life. Nothing could change the past but at that moment, I wish there was.
"I love you.."
My body felt like it was burning from the inside out when I saw the door close behind Zalgo, it's been two days since (y/n) was taken away and out somewhere else in the building. I had calmed down to where my body was back to normal with the feeling of numbness all over but it wasn't because of the pain, but how empty I felt without a certain woman beside me. It had felt kinda empty when I was left alone again, I had been alone ever since I left Slenderman mansion about 3 months ago but it felt different this time and more hollow then before. I hadn't noticed the hollowness within me until (y/n) was gone, I guess she had distracted me so much that I hadn't noticed it.

I didn't even bother moving from where I laid when (y/n) left, it felt as if my body was forming into the ground at this point. I had hoped that (y/n) would've come back by now and left with me, but she didn't, so I stayed on the ground, waiting. My heart was aching so much to the point where it would start to show, my chest would go up and down at a fast pace. No one talked to me, like I wanted them to talk to me anyway. I had thought about things to do to get (y/n) back from Zalgo, my mind didn't stop from racing from idea to idea before a brilliant one caught my attention.
"Perfect"
While you were still in the dark room, Jack was running out the window and out into the thick trees of the forest. Your mind was becoming even more darkened when your memories where getting worse by the minute, whenever you tried to think of anything, it just came up blank. Nothing. Your body was cold and tired from doing nothing, your mind had become blank, a mindless zombie walking among the Earth. It was all a blur now, no memories, no hope at all. It was kinda of a relief because no more worrying, it didn't matter if your memories were gone, right?
You stayed thinking over things when suddenly the door opened with a high pitched creek before opening completely, you didn't raise your head to see who it was though, you just didn't care anymore. The figure that opened the door was now standing over your crouched one, you could feel its eyes stare right through your head and into your mind. Though your mind was completely blank, you felt the feeling unsettling when it came from the figure. A deep chuckle broke through the silence, a shiver ran down your spine when it did so.
"so... your completely taken into the depths, huh?" it questioned you, even though it knew you wouldn't respond. It didn't feel right to respond to it, like a deep hatred had suddenly come over you when it spoke. Its voice was deep and demonic sounding, it scared you but you didn't show it. The figure growled at you before picking you up bridal style, you didn't hold onto him though, any physical contact made you shiver. Your arm fell down to the side with your other arm over your stomach, a strange pain has been there for a while now, but you didn't question it.
"lets start the wedding then, its a perfect time since our dear Jack isn't around anymore."
Jack, did you know this person? the name sounded familiar to you, but it didn't bring any memories back. Choosing to ignore the man's statement and watch the surroundings ahead of you both as he walked out the dark room and into a hallway, the man seemed to not be walking but hovering a little above the ground, maybe an inch or 2.
'that's a waste of power..'
you thought of reasons to yourself as he carried you into another room but this time it was bigger with red walls, concrete floors with a big carpet with little designs on it. The air in the room seemed to become less and less breathable the more they walked into it, at the end of the long/wide room, a small table was set. The table was deformed though, it was flat on the top with 6 legs sticking out the bottom. it was a copper table with corrode on it, the legs were all curvy and landed in different ways. Once getting closer to the table, on top of it was a small book with a curvy dagger set beside it. This confused you even more but decided not to question since it had nothing to do with you, or did it?

"this is where the ritual- I mean, wedding will begin. Weddings in the underworld are different then human weddings on the surface, in an underworld wedding, the blood of the bride must be spilled onto the "Book of Life" with the grooms as well. When on the book, the words must be read aloud before a kiss of death." The man placed you down slowly while explaining this to you, it didn't matter to you. Why were you doing this in the first place? you had no clue but that your gut said it must be done, you didn't know why your gut wanted this but in the end you didn't care anyway.
Getting a good look at the man now, his whole body was pitch black with sharp claws for fingers. His sides of his body also had mouths that were closed but you could still see them, looking up at his head, he had long horns with red-tipped thorns sticking around them. his eyes were red as well with closed mouths on his cheeks, his actual mouth was shaped up into an evil smile. His tallness was also a surprise to you, you only came up to his stomach. You were surprised but it didn't show, your eyes were too dull to show any real emotion.
"Ok.." you answered him while looking away and finally looking over the book and dagger, the books cover was a human skull with a rose along side it. The cover was leather too, it was beautifully trimmed and pressed. You had never seen a book like this...Well, of what you could remember. The man suddenly grabbed a hold of your hand ready to start, a deep sigh left your mouth before being pulled forward a little. Once close enough to touch the table, the man had grabbed the dagger and brought it over to your hand in his grasp. You tried to calm down your worries with not knowing if it would hurt or not, even if you couldn't feel things emotionally, you could still feel things physically.
"This won't hurt a lot, it will only feel like being stabbed in the hand." he chuckled again before driving the knife into your palm, the pain shot through your arm and out over your body. It DID feel like being stabbed in the hand, the pain was unbearable but you tried to hold back your screams. He didn't seem to like this as he suddenly dragged the dagger up your arm to your elbow, your eyes widened as you let out a shriek of pain. This was the first emotion you were able to muster after those times you could remember, fear and pain.
"Aw, don't be upset with me. It will only be a little while." His voice sounded like a squeaky door rocking back and forth, annoying. When he did take out the dagger a big crash was heard from the other side of the door. This made the both of you stop to look at the door, the man let out a growl before telling you to stay there. Not wanting to get more hurt, you nodded quickly and sat against the table.
Another crash emitted from the other side of the door before the man slammed it open and slammed it shut, it made you cringe at the sound. The large room was quiet once again, nothing but the sound of blood dropping to the ground and the sound of your breathing, which was getting thinner and thinner by the minute. A sound was heard by the little window that was placed in an odd place in the corner, you didn't want to cause attention to yourself so you didn't move an inch.
"(Y/n)? you here?"
A voice? it sounded a little familiar to you but you didn't respond, nothing seemed right to you right now. the voice was deep and raspy but smooth too? weird combo, feeling the presence of the figure starting to get closer to you, you start to shift away to the other side to get away without being seen. When a sudden pain shoots up your arm when you press down on your hand, a whimper emerges from you. The sound of footsteps stop, this causes you to panic now.
"(y/n), answer now." The voice calls out, it sounded like it was trying to be demanding but came out sad and broken. You took pity but didn't say anything, the voice sounded a lot like yours. The footsteps started again but this time they came from right beside you, before you could move, hands grabbed onto your arms and yanked you up into a broad chest. You yelp out when your hurt hand comes into contact with another hand, the figure pulls away quickly and brings it up to its face, sniffing lightly.
"Your bleeding! (Y/n) I'm so sorry I wasn't here to help sooner." The figure spoke out, you could now figure it out that it was a man. you looked up to meet a blue mask with black soulless eyes, it sent shivers down your spine before you started to back away from him. He looked up at you and tilted his head, reaching his hand out to touch you but you just flinched away from his touch. This caused him to retreat his hand back to his form before clenching onto his chest, his body began to shake as well as yours.
"(y-y/n)... it's me, Jack. Do you remember me?"
His voice was gentle and panicked at the same time, this confused you. Why was he panicked? was it you that made him panic? You shook your head "no" before bringing your injured hand to your chest, this caused Jack to slump down to his knees to the ground. You felt bad for not remembering him, he seemed to care about if you knew him or not. This burned your insides more with the weight of guilt, slowly you walked over to his slumped form before gently placing your hand on his back. He stiffened but didn't pull away, he actually leaned into your touch. Seeing how much your touch effected him made you start to think, a very rare thing you did lately.
'who is this man to me? were we close in the past? I do want to remember him, it feels like its almost out of my reach.'
You slumped down to your knees as well, trying to meet his masked face. You felt your heart begin to beat when his head lifted up to meet yours, deciding to study him more, you looked at every detail of him. His hoodie he wore was black along with his pants, little puffs of brown locks stuck out of his hood and over his mask, his skin was a dark grey as you looked at his exposed neck and hands, his mask was a dark blue with black eyes that leaked black substance. You lifted your hand up to his mask and lightly touched the black goo, Jack didn't stop you as you pulled away and played with it a little. It was tare, you looked back at him.
"maybe if I see your face, I'll remember." You whisper lowly to him before looking down at his knees, examining his pants which were torn. A sad chuckle came from Jack before he nodded a little, this made you confused as well. He was willing to let you see his face when you clearly didn't remember him? You guessed that you must have been really close then. Slowly but surely you lifted both hands up to his mask before grabbing hold of his masks cheeks, you took a deep breath and closing your eyes before pulling it off quickly. His hair got caught when you pulled on it so you yanked his head with it, bringing his face inches away from yours, you opened your eyes slowly. You felt your face heat up as his breath hit your face, the closeness wasn't necessarily uncomfortable just awkward. Your eyes widened when you didn't see any eyes, just black voids. This caused you to panic at first but relaxed when they seemed like they were calm, his skin was indeed grey, his teeth were pointy and white.
His face began to become flustered a little as he tried to pull away but you didn't let him, your head was spinning with memories coming from within the depths of your brain. Your eyes widened as tears came down your pale face, your face scrunched up as you sobbed.
"Jack, You asshole.."
You whispered before pulling him quickly closer to you, locking your lips with his soft ones.
that's all you could remember before blacking out.

8 67Leave Bad Enough Alone

Compared to the theater’s usual fare, their work is hackneyed and poorly plotted, with unskilled acting, bad special effects, and unsatisfying resolutions. Worst of all, the audiences like their work more, and these upstarts are far more profitable than the city’s decent bards! Clearly, there must be some dark secret behind the success of these newcomers, and it’s up to the city’s true artists to find out what it is and expose the conspiracy! Or maybe the city’s bards have just become too hopelessly pretentious and derivative. It’s hard to tell. But investigate it they must! Failure is not an option!
