《Future Dynasty》Lecture Twenty-Six

"Kennedy." Hissed River as he looked around the carpark making sure no one was watching us.

It was a little bit to late for that if you asked me.

"Why are you trailing us?"

The two men in the front of the car looked at each other, almost unsure before the driver finally turned around to look at me once more. I looked at him expectantly, waiting for what ever half assed response he was about to tell me.

What they did next, didn't surprise me one bit.

They took off.

Not wasting a second I sprinted back over to Ezra's car grabbing his keys out of his hand. He had them already held out to me as I passed by him, a knowing grin on his face. I sent one of my own back as I gave him a wink on the way past.

Jumping into his car, I took off like a shoot turning the car on a pin, a skill my mom had taught me at thirteen. The cars tyres screamed from under me, and the smell of burning rubber hit my senses.

There was no one better at handling a car than my mom and when the best taught you, you pick up a trick or too. She had taught me everything I needed to know about handling a car.

The men had a head start but that didn't mean I wouldn't catch them. After all, I might prefer bikes over cars, but that didn't mean I didn't know how to drive.

Within seconds, I had made my way out of carpark and onto the main road. Cars were flying everywhere trying to get out of the path of the incoming SUV. It made it far easier for me to make my way past, with cars blasting their horns and flashing their lights.

Knocking the car up a gear I pushed the car even faster, making sure to take in all my surroundings.

The SUV was heading towards one of the main junctions in the City with a red light blaring our way. This was only going to end badly and I was all for pressing hard on my breaks last minute until the light turned green. As soon as I spotted the green light I had sped up my car once more chasing down the SUV.

With every second that past I was getting closer and closer. I couldn't help but let a grin cross across my face at the thrill of this little game.

A game of cat and mouse was one of my favourite games.

More so, when I was the cat.

The SUV took a hard turn to the left making me follow and soon I was quick to realise they were making their way towards the port.

They were following the main road but I knew this City better than they could ever imagine. As they kept going straight down the main road I took a sharp right turn down one of the many smaller streets that graced this City.

"Hello, kid."

The voice made me jump in my seat, with my heart throwing itself into my throat. My breath caught and it took everything in me to snap out of it and dodge the incoming car.

"What the fuck."

The voice laughed and I finally looked down at my dashboard to see a grinning Zoe looking at me. Her dark eyes brightened as she looked at me amused, seeming to think about something.

"You know, your mom used to say that to me too."

Her words made me stop and think.

The green lights.

Of course it was Zoe. Even my luck wasn't that good. Glancing down at the screen I could see that she was working away on her tablet and there was no doubt she was watching me every move.

"Turn right." Was her response and I did what I was told without thinking.

If there was anyone in the this world that my mom and dad trusted more than each other, it was Zoe.

I would never doubt what she says.

"But this way leads to me to the bridge, it's normally raised at this hour."

The way I was going was still quicker than the way Enzo's men were going but it wasn't as quick as the one with the bridge. The problem was the bridge normally cut off the road in the middle of the day that's to the shipping containers.

"Let me deal with that." Waved off Zoe like it wasn't a big deal, and it probably wasn't for her.

Draven had a lot to learn if he wanted to be anything like his mom.

"Aren't you meant to be working with dad at the moment?"

Once again Zoe waved me off like it was a stupid question, her black painted nails reflecting off the screen. "My eyes are everywhere, I can be in more than one place at once."

The cameras, where ever there was a camera Zoe was sure to be able to control anything.

"But-"

"Incoming, you have three more heading your way."

Looking in my review mirror I could see them approaching, and quick. It was bikes, they might be quicker but I could do more damage.

Without thinking, as soon as one was right behind me I slammed on my breaks making them squeal at me under the pressure. Spinning the wheel I turned the car completely knocking the one behind my car and to the left of me. Both of the men went flying, not even knowing what had happened.

That just left the one my right.

Taking off once more, the car was now facing the way I came. I let the car take off that way making the last bike turn sharply to follow me.

Zoe let a low whistle and I couldn't help but let a grin out at her approval.

"Well done." Remarked Zoe with pride. "I'm sure you mom is beaming too."

"Mom?" For a second I forgot about what I was doing. "She's watching?"

"Of course." Remarked Zoe in a duh tone. "And your dad as well. Don't tell them I told you that. Your mom, kicked out a whole room of board members as soon as I told her. She was in the middle of a meeting and one of the men woke up your dad to alert him. You didn't think your parents don't know what you lot get up too?"

Oh I knew, I just didn't think that they watched.

My whole body came awake with a buzz that I never thought I had before.

My parents were watching, they knew what I could do.

They weren't getting in the middle of it, they weren't butting in.

They were letting me work this out myself.

"Then let's give them something to watch."

Knocking my car up a gear I took a sharp corner to my left leading me back on to the path to the port. The bike followed closely behind, but he didn't try and engage again.

He was stalling.

All that told me was that he was waiting for back up.

"Is there more coming my way?"

Zoe scoffed. "Of course, you've got an army on your ass."

This was a trap. They had wanted me to separate myself from the others and I had walked right into it.

That's why they had been tailing me, they wanted to get me alone.

Just because I had walked into the trap, didn't mean I couldn't turn it into my own advantage.

"Good." I finally responded with the infamous smirk I shared with my father. It was symbol that trouble was about to follow. "Let's give them a fight."

Letting the bike trail me I paid it no attention as I made my way to the bridge. Zoe kept the lights green even on these smaller roads and I couldn't help but notice the bridge was only partly lowered.

"Zoe." But I didn't have to ask the rest of my question because Zoe let out a laugh.

"You approached the bridge quicker than I thought you would. You know how slow that thing can be." There was something in her voice that told me something more but I didn't know what. "Just jump it."

Looking at her on the screen, I looked at her like she was mad.

"Jump it? Have you gone fucking insane."

"No swearing in front of me." Scolded Zoe with a playful laugh. "You'll be fine, I've watched people do it before."

"And they're still alive?" I remarked as I swallowed my nervousness, but pushed my car even faster on the straight anyway.

Zoe scoffed as she clicked away at the tablet. "If they weren't, you wouldn't be alive yourself."

It only took me seconds to piece it together.

"Mom?" I asked looking shocked between the bridge and Zoe, doubt written all over my face.

"That bridge put you're mom on the map. It was long before your parents lives intertwined. In fact she was going out with Zane then."

"Mom went out with Zane!" All of sudden everything was forgotten.

"Priorities, Layla." Zoe laughed at my reaction and I couldn't blame her.

Then I knew what she was doing, she was distracting me. She was trying to keep my mind from overthinking the situation that was in front of me, and I had to thank her for that.

A new sense of determination came over me in waves and I looked at the bridge head on.

If mom could do this, then so could I.

"Let's do this."

My foot went to the floor on the accelerator and I watched as the reeve count climbed higher and higher. I listened to the car knowing when I needed to change the gear.

Mom always told me the car will always tell you what you need to do.

As the bridge approached my confidence wavered for a second but I buried it deep down. If I wanted to prove myself I needed to do this.

With every second that passed my body grew in confidence. My eyes zeroed in on the other side of the bridge, not daring to look at the gap or the distance between it.

Looking in my rear view mirror I could see more than just one bike. I shook the imagine of them out of my head as I turned my focus back to the bridge.

First I need to survive this.

"Come on kid." Zoe rolled her eyes at me. Sometimes I forgot she was meant to be the adult. She was always pushing her kids and the rest of us to do the unthinkable. "You need to go faster than that if you want to make that jump."

She was right, even if I didn't want to admit it.

Pushing the car faster it roared to life under my hands, it was like it had unlocked another level to those that dared.

Temptation took over me to close my eyes when I was just meters from the edge but I fought my nerves. I wanted to watch this.

No.

I needed to watch this. To watch what I'm capable of doing.

The second my car reached the edge everything seemed to go in slow motion. You could've sworn the world stopped turning as my breath caught in my throat. With one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the gears the roar of the car could be heard from under me. There was something freeing about the sound, knowing that if I could do this I could do anything.

Then everything dropped.

My car hit the ground on the other side with such force I could've sworn I gave myself whiplash. Somehow the cars suspension held out but then I reminded myself that wasn't a surprise.

This car was made by the best.

My foot was still on the accelerator so the car kept going never daring to stop. I couldn't help but feel the pride for myself at the fact I never once pushed the breaks when I landed.

My high was soon brought down to earth with the sound of Zoe's voice.

"Shit."

She was viciously taping anyway at her tablet and I knew from the look on her face what ever it was, it wasn't good.

"What?"

"Emilia."

With just the name of my little sister coming from Zoe like that I knew something wasn't right. I remembered the conversation I had with River earlier remembering that she had been spending a lot of him with Zoe's youngest.

"Zoe, what's happened?"

"I can't find her." Zoe's voice was distanced as she spoke, almost like she was talking to herself more than she was talking to me.

"What do you mean you can't find her, is she not with Cole or Asher?"

Zoe shook her head clearly flicking through as many cameras as she could find. "She was with Cole earlier but she left like twenty minutes ago. She should've been back to yours ages ago."

Then it clicked. These guys had been following me.

I'm the daughter of two of the most powerful people in this world of ours. But I wasn't their only child.

Reagan was in Italy but that still left two more. Two that didn't know this world as well as me and Reagan.

"Zoe where is my little sister?" There was a snap in my tone but Zoe paid it on attention as she continued to flick through the cameras. "And where the fuck is Levi?"

"Levi is at the field." Remarked Zoe not fully paying attention to me. "Our guys are watching him in the background to make sure he's safe. I've already told Zane to send more over but Emilia was at our house. She must have left before your dads men got to her."

There was no doubt in my mind I knew where to find her, and I was heading in the right direction to deal with it.

Suddenly a new sense of urgency rushed through my body but there was something calming about it as I seen red. My mind came alert to everything around me and I started to think.

Truly think about what was going on around me.

"The cameras at the port, who's there?"

Zoe snapped her eyes away from her tablet for a moment before flicking to the camera's. "Just what we would be expecting a bunch of Italians on standby."

Thinking back to the car that I stolen from Enzo that night it was a costumed designed Mercedes. It was a high end car, not one that you would see a common criminal with.

"What cars are there?"

"What is with you Anderson and cars?" Remarked Zoe with a disbelieving look.

That was the first time someone had called me an Anderson. I've always been a Kennedy.

"No, not that. Is there any top of the range ones? Like ones mom would drive?"

"Costumed?"

"Yea."

There was a second of silence before Zoe nodded. "Yea a Ferrari, royal blue. Looks like it's had some amount of work done to it too."

Enzo.

He was going to regret fucking with my family.

Reaching under the seat I pulled out the drawer that both the driver and passenger seat shared. As soon as the drawer clicked open I pulled out the guns throwing them on the seat next to me.

"Layla, what are you doing." Zoe voice was no longer that laid back and uncaring voice she normally spotted. There was general worry in her voice this time.

"I'm sure you already know."

After I finished pulling on the three guns, I clicked the drawer closed again. Keeping my eyes on the road I reached over one of the guns and checked it over with a quick glance.

They were fully loaded.

"I thought you were just going to chase that SUV down. Layla, that's a different ball game heading in there, alone too."

"I won't be alone." I took a sharp turn, my body on autopilot.

"Is there ghosts in that car of yours or something? Because I see no one." Her voice had rising slightly and I knew this was the mother side of her coming out.

"I'm sure River and Ezra aren't that far behind, River probably jumped into his car as soon as I took off." Then I glanced at the screen. "And I'm sure you told my uncles and Zane."

She narrowed her eyes at me and I gave her a cheeky grin. Then finally she let out a sigh. "I haven't told anyone yet, but your parents can hear our conversation right now so they are probably making their own calls."

"See I'm not alone."

"Just wait for them." Reasoned Zoe with worry in her eyes. "They'll be there soon."

"Na, don't think so." I remarked as the port finally came into sight, at this point I was trying to get a rise out of her. Of course I wouldn't be going in there alone. "They took my little sister."

"We don't even know that." Zoe's eyes flicked back between me and her tablet.

"Yes we do, you're a bad liar Zoe."

"Layla, just wait."

Letting out my own sigh this time. I looked down at the camera. "I know what I can handle Zoe. Ace and Kate have spent my whole live teaching me how to fight. Now that I'm in the real world I realise what Ace said was the truth. He wasn't teaching me to fight in the cage he was teaching me for the real world. As for being able to handle a gun, well you have my dad to thank for that."

"Ju-"

"Look I'm not going in there guns blazing if that's what you think." I commented cutting her off. "I'm not stupid of course I'm going to wait for them but I'm also not going to sit around either. I'm going to look around the area, see what they're up too. River and Ezra are probably only five minutes behind me any-"

"Watch out." Screamed Zoe but it was too late.

The car was inches away from the side of me before I noticed it.

It took a second for my mind to even register what had happened.

Someone crashed into the side of me, no doubt on purpose.

My ears rang from the impact as the car flipped over from such force. Upside down I could feel all the blood rushing upwards bringing an uncomfortable humming in my brain. Reaching my hand up I wiped at something that was dripping down my face.

Blood.

"Shit." My voice broke as I swore out loud and in return all I got was a coughing fit as my body tried to recover the air it had lost from the impact.

Everything was a humming but I was fully aware of the sounds my car was letting out. They weren't healthy and I knew I needed to get out of here.

Putting one hand to the ceiling of the car I used it to break my fall as I unhooked the seatbelt that kept me in place. A loud grown escaped my lips as I landed on my shoulder making sure to keep my head out of the situation.

The blood was coming from the top of my head and I didn't need to add anything else to the situation.

Footsteps caught my attention.

Looking to my left I spotted the car that had crashed into me. The front of it was completely written off but one of the headlights still worked sending a glare into the darkness towards me. Squinting I noticed that there was three sets of legs coming towards my car.

"I think she's dead." Came one voice and it almost made me hold my breath.

The surprise element was going to be the only way I'm going to be able to get out of this.

"She has to be, no way someone could survive that impact. The car fucking rolled at least four times." Laughed one of the men, clearly enjoying the pain that they had just put me through.

Adrenaline ran through my body at the sound of their voice. I couldn't let them get the best of me.

Looking around I silenced my coughing to the best I could. Hoping that the sounds the car was making would hide what I couldn't hold in. Finally my hand wrapped around one of the guns that I had been setting up earlier.

Thank, fuck.

"Wouldn't count her out just yet." Scolded the last man with more venom than I had ever heard in a person before. "If she's anything like her parents, she'll be hard to kill."

As they creeped closer I took aim with the gun. The window had shattered on impact which left me the perfect vantage point that they couldn't yet see.

One of the men stepped closer to the window and hunched down on his knees to look through the window.

A moment of silence passed when his crooked smile turned into one of shock. My gun was pointed directly at his head, annoyance plastered all over my face.

How dare they think for a second that such a cheep shot would take out the likes of me. I was made of stronger stuff than they thought and I wasn't going to me the first life to be taken this night.

They took my sister and now they did this.

They were going to pay.

Without blinking I let the bullet fly.
