《Future Dynasty》Lecture Twenty-One

A week has past from that night and since then and I've learnt so much about my dads world.
Mom had let me into his office in Anarchy and I couldn't help but be in awe over it. It was no surprise that Anarchy was so highly guarded with cameras and security systems everywhere. Everything that I was sure Zoe kept on high alert for. It wouldn't surprise me if her or dad was watching me as I looked through it all.
My mind had probably taken in more information in the last week, than it has in the last few years at school.
Dad had information about everyone and everything. From not only the men he trusted with his life but other crime families as well.
The one that had the most information was the Giudice family.
The Italian family that have been at war with my own parents from Reagan was born.
The very family that Heath was working for, and related too.
Mom had answered any questions I might have had. Frankly she looked proud that I had been asking her all these questions, answering them with a grin that told me she seen something I didn't.
As I walked home from the gym my mind wandered to the many things I had learnt over the last few days. In turn I had forgotten the most important rule in my world.
Always pay attention to your surroundings.
An arm wrapped around my waist and a hand covered my mouth but my natural instincts kicked in long before my mind did.
My elbow came flying back behind me hitting the person on the side of their jaw making them let out a sharp grunt in pain.
As I spun around I realised that he wasn't the only one, and they were armed.
Three men stood in front of me each one with a gun in hand, ready for what ever I was going to do next.
"I wouldn't bother if I was you." Spoke one of the men as he watched me glance around me. Another two men had appeared behind, completely blocking me in on both sides down the alleyway.
My body and mind where both ready for a fight but even I knew the odds were against me. These men were armed and they looked ready to shot me if it was necessary.
Maybe not to kill, but they were definitely willing to do damage if I tried to run.
While I on the other hand had nothing more than my gym back and the clothes on my back. My tight shorts and top wasn't enough to protect me against the cold air but I wanted to cool off after my session at the gym.
For one in my life I regretted not taking my motorbike.
Frankly I could hear my uncle, Ace telling me 'told you so' for running into trouble.
"What do you want?" My voice was calm as I spoke but my mind was racing alongside my heart. My body was tense and ready for a fight.
"We came for a little bit of revenge."
It took a moment for it to click but then I knew I was dealing with something far more dangerous than I first thought.
"For Heath." My voice was low but I knew that they had heard me loud and clear as I back myself against a wall slightly.
After Zane and Damon showed up and took Heath I wasn't sure what had happened to him. Frankly he could be dead for all I knew, or cared.

What was clear though was that my own actions had come to bite me in the ass.
What a surprise.
"Heath is still a Giudice, even if he wasn't raised as one." The man who was talking seemed to be in charge of this whole situation. Even in the darkness I could see the annoyance on his face. "So we thought to ourselves what better way to get revenge that to go after a Kennedy."
My eyes narrowed.
No one threatened me, no matter what.
It wasn't something I would ever settle for, no matter my situation or who they were.
"Don't you think that's a bit of a stretch going for me?" I started talking, stalling till I had lined myself up right under the emergency escape ladders as the side of the alleyway. "When my parents find out about this it won't be pretty."
"No but it will make them reckless." Shrugged the man like it wasn't a big deal. "Maybe that perfect mind of your bitch of a mother will finally slip."
Now he had crossed the line.
No one talked about my mom like that.
Before I let them have time to think I jumped up grabbing the bottom of the ladders. I made a whole show of acting like I was climbing them as three of the men ran towards me and the other two took aim. Just as they got close enough I used my own momentum to swing forward, my feet kicking two of them in the jaw sending them flying back.
The third one was still coming towards me and the other two took their shots.
Letting go I dropped quickly slamming into the man below me with my full body weight sending him sprawling to the ground. My landing wasn't graceful as I landed half on him and half on the ground. Quickly I stood up and slammed my foot down on the man's wrist making him drop the gun in his hand.
Glancing up as I grabbed the gun I didn't think as I shot out at the two men who had fired the shots at me. My aim was off but what I really did was use it more as a distraction as I took off down the alleyway as quickly as my legs could carry me.
With the gym session only twenty minutes ago and the tension running through my body my legs were burning.
The second I heard there footsteps behind me though the pain left my body.
There was bigger issues at hand.
A shot ring through my ears as I turned another corner the bullet missing my side by inches. As my mind focused on the people behind me I didn't pay attention to what was happening in front.
A car headed in my direction, it's headlights blinding me, forcing me to stop. As the car came closer I realised it was heading straight for me and in the last possible second I jumped out of the way.
The car stopped a few feet from were I lay on the ground. A soft groan left my lips as I glanced down at my forearm. Scratch marks ran the whole way up my arm and I was sure there was a large gash on my elbow from where most of my weight fell.
With the gun still in my hand I slowly stood back up again, eyeing the driver side of the car as I did so.
The men stopped running and stood behind the car and I frowned at them in confusion.

They were taking orders from someone.
The drivers door opened and slowly a man emerged. He ran a hand through his dark hair before fixing his suit jacket. His dark eyes never left mine as he looked me up and down carefully, almost like he was trying to figure something out.
My eyes narrowed dangerously my left elbow slightly bent at my side and the gun in my right hand. Something was dripping down the side of my left leg and I was willing to bet my arm wasn't the only thing badly scratched.
There was no way though that I was looking away from this man.
He was challenging me with his gaze alone and I never backed down from a fight.
"Who the fuck are you?" My voice was strong and calm, just the way I had wanted it to be. He had raised his eyebrow at me almost impressed.
For a moment silence fell between us before he took a few steps around the car so that we were standing a mere few feet away.
Now that I was able to properly look at me I couldn't help but express the shock that I was feeling.
This man wasn't much older than I was, maybe nineteen if even. His hair was almost pitch black and his deep eyes were as dark as shadows. He was probably about just over six foot, with broad shoulders and sharp features.
He was dangerous.
Just as dangerous as River.
"Enzo Giudice." He looked behind him, seeming to take in the men for the first time. "And I see you've already met my men."
His accent was a deep Italian and suddenly my body was put on even more high alert at the sound of his surname.
He was directly related to the Giudice family but I didn't know how. Every piece of information my dad had about the Italian's didn't mention Enzo in any way.
Enzo's eyes glanced down at my arm once more before quickly looking back up at my face. "I heard the oldest Kennedy Princess knew how to put up a fight but I didn't quite believe it."
He looked amused and it did nothing but push the wrong buttons with me. He was acting like he had already won when I was far from finished playing this little game between us.
Without even giving him the decency of a response I pointed my gun at his head and fired. He stepped out of the way and the bullet found its target in one of the men standing behind him. I didn't even blink my eyes away from Enzo as he looked behind him at where the man now lay.
"Ruthless too." Enzo spoke with amusement, something I wasn't expecting him to have when he turned back to me. "Tell me little princess, how much do you mean to your parents?"
"How much do you mean to yours?" I pointed up and down at his suit with a gesture that told him that I knew more than I actually did. "From the way you're dressed I'd say you've done nothing but spend your whole life trying to impress them."
His jaw ticked telling me that I had hit a nerve, a nerve that I knew how to exploit.
He had just made the first wrong move.
As I took a step forward he stood his ground but his men had moved closer. They were barely a few feet away from him which told me the next thing.
He doesn't fight his own battles.
"Got a smart mouth too." Was his only comment and I knew he didn't know what to do with me.
He was clearly under orders. They wanted me alive that was for sure.
"Let's just cut to the chase will we?" I remarked flicking my gun to his men then back at him. "These idiots told me you wanted revenge for Heath."
Enzo raised an eyebrow seemingly just as surprised by my statement as I was earlier. He looked over his shoulder at his men giving them a questioning look.
"That's what you went with?" Sighing like he was disappointed he turned back to me. "Heath is nothing more than an expense. Our family is no different with or without him, he has his uses but those uses have been used up. My father no longer cares what he does or what part he plays."
Tilting my head I looked at him carefully. "And just who is your dad?"
Enzo's lips curve upwards slightly to give me a looked that told I wasn't going to like the answer.
"Luca Giudice."
The crime boss in Italy.
The very man my own dad was at war with at the moment.
My whole body stiffened at the name and I knew I was dealing with someone different from I had first thought.
If Luca was Enzo's father that meant he was the future of their dynasty.
There was no records of Luca ever having children. In fact it was thought his nephew would take over after his death but clearly some secret had been kept under the radar.
Of course he could've been lying but just by looking at him I knew that he wasn't. Now that I thought about it from the pictures I had seen he was just basically a younger version of his dad.
No, he wasn't completely like his dad.
I'd be dead right now if he was.
"I can see your brain turning the gears from here."
Enzo's words snapped me out of it but I wasn't about to give him the reaction that he wanted.
"Am I meant to be impressed or something?" I commented finally getting my thoughts together.
He seemed a bit unsure but the grin never left his lips. It was too late though I could already see the cracks in his mask.
Mom would be proud.
Clearly Enzo had, had enough of my shit because with a nod of his head his men moved.
"Capture her, alive."
There was three of them left and I knew the odds were in my favour better than they were a few minutes ago.
The truth was though I didn't need to knock them down to get out of here.
I just needed to trick them.
Enzo's car was still sitting there waiting to go and the first rule of facing me or my family was simple.
Never leave a car near us.
As two of the men ran around either sided of the car, the third one stuck close to Enzo. Without a second thought or a doubt I ran towards the car and slid across the hood of the car making sure my left side never touched it.
The third man move towards me but I didn't let him get an inch on me before I shot him down.
Now it was definitely clear that what ever they wanted me for, they wanted me alive.
Enzo didn't even blink when I pressed the gun at his forehead with my other hand on the car door. There was annoyance in his eyes once he realised what I was really doing but there was something else there, something I couldn't pinpoint.
The two other men stopped in there tracks when they seen the position I had Enzo in.
Every instinct in my body was telling me to shot him and just be done with it. It was probably would've been what I had done before I found out who his father was. In the end though there was an another voice in my mind, a voice that told me that I could use him.
He was the future of his families world and he would be far more useful to my family if he was alive.
"I think I'll be going now." I slowly opened the car door never moving the gun or my gaze from Enzo.
He scoffed shaking his head as he looked at the ground. After a few seconds he looked up again his dark eyes clashing with my grey ones.
"I think we'll be seeing a lot of each other, Layla Kennedy." His tone held a promise in it that told me that he was thinking the same thing I was.
He wanted to us me just as much as I wanted to us him.
"I don't doubt it."
With that I lowered my gun and got into the car. Before I could slam the door closed her reached out and grabbed it stopping me in my tracks. He leaned down so that we were face to face, we were mere inches apart and I looked at him curiously.
"Tell your parents that my dad isn't in Italy." His voice was low, almost like he was sharing a secret.
"And I'm meant to just trust your word on that?" I asked scoffing like he had just told me something worthless. "Those words are nothing more than a trap, how stupid do you think I am?"
He shrugged, standing back up to his full height. "Take it how you want amore, it was just some friendly advise and I never lie."
Looking at him one last time I pulled the door closed and this time he let go.

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
