《Future Dynasty》Lecture Eighteen

"So what's the plan?" Asked Draven as he peered in between the driver and passenger seat looking at the same building that I was.
River had won the passenger seat in the end.
Well it was more along the lines of Draven having enough of his shit so he just moved.
"Plan?" I asked with a grin on my face knowing that I hadn't completely thought this through. "What plan, I was kind of just going with the flow."
Draven turned his head to me like I was insane while River covered his mouth trying to hide his laughter.
"Are you insane?" Remarked Draven as he tried to wrap his mind around my words.
Out of us all Draven was the one that loved a plan more than anything. While we were all growing up he always demanded to know what time we were meeting, where we were going, how we were getting there and how long we would be. Along with a million others things to go with those questions.
Me and the others kind of more or less winged life and went with the flow, I was probably the worst of them all for that.
"Just a little bit." My words had left my mouth but I was no longer paying attention to what was happening between us. My eyes were solely fixed on the house in front of it.
It was nothing extravagant, a simple home in a family area. It wasn't on our side of the City but it wasn't from the other side either. It was somewhere that you wouldn't think twice about looking for or at. There was flowers and small trees all over the front lawn but it was nicely done up, almost like someone spent every morning in it.
My eyes narrowed slightly at what I thought was a shadow by the up stairs window but when I looked again there was nothing there.
My eyes were probably starting to play tricks on me after staring at the place for so long.
"I don't think he's home." Yawned River, my eyes glanced at him for a moment and I could see the tiredness starting to take over.
"Why do you look like death?" Draven's words came out sharp but I could see the concern on his face in the rear view mirror when he thought no one was looking.
The sight of it made me grin slightly and I turned to look out my driver window to hide it.
They might act like they hate each other but that underlining friendship was still there even if they didn't know it.
"I was helping Elijah get shit sorted for Reagan leaving. Not all of us have the privilege of hiding behind a screen all day." River's voice was low and I could tell he wanted to do nothing more than fall asleep.
Not that I blamed him staring at a house wasn't the most interesting thing to do.
"Is your brother going with him?" I asked suddenly wondering if he would be sent with Reagan.
Elijah was a year older than Reagan and Reagan valued no one's opinion more than Elijah's. Compared to the other Knight brother Elijah was a lot more chilled and took everything in his stride.
He had a way of getting things done without looking like he was doing anything at all.
"Yea." River got more comfortable in his seat and I knew it wouldn't be long before he closed his eyes. "Told me and Ezra to keep him updated on what's happening in the City. Said the first sign of trouble and he'd be on the first flight back."

"So in other words you won't be telling him anything." I remarked knowing fully well that Elijah would get the full low down when he got home and wonder what the fuck happened.
River scoffed like it was an inside joke. "Of course not, he loves getting his surprises when he gets home."
"If I was Elijah I'd of killed you by now for not telling me half the shit that happens when he's gone." Remarked Draven from behind as I heard him typing away at his laptop.
"Just as well you're not my brother then."
There was a underlining meaning in those words but none of us dared to bring it up.
The two of them basically were brothers when we were kids.
"Still no sign of anyone in the house?" I asked trying to change the subject.
"No, also he needs to get better security. It was too easy to hack into the cameras in his home."
A few seconds later Draven's words registered in my mind and I was moving. Grabbing the gun under my seat I clicked it open to check it was loaded.
River was now wide awake as he started to gather his own shit, ready for what ever was about to go down.
"What is it?" Asked Draven with a frown as his eyes flicked between his laptop and us.
"You said it yourself, it was too easy. Those are fake feeds going to you. Probably set up by someone even better than you. I seen a shadow by the window earlier but I just thought it was the tree casting a shadow, now I'm not to sure."
My car was park around the corner slightly out of view of the house but close enough to give us a perfect view.
"So you think someone's in there?" Asked River a dangerous grin crossing his lips.
His tiredness was long forgotten about as he started to come alive. He rolled his shoulders back almost like he was preparing himself for a fight, and maybe he was.
After all we didn't know what was in there and we were about to head right into the lions dens.
"Guys, I really don't think you should go in there. Let me try and work around the feed first." There was slight worry in Draven's voice and I knew as much as he tried to act like he didn't care, he did.
"We'll be fine." Looking over to River I made sure that he was fully comfortable with the situation and I almost felt stupid for that second guessing.
Of course he was ready for this. This was the type of shit he did every night when he was with his brothers or mine.
"I'm coming with you." Determination was in Draven's voice but River was quick to shot him down as he got out of the car.
"Stay there and don't move." He didn't even look back at Draven but the message was clear and Draven almost huffed as he sat back in his seat.
When we were far enough away from the car I bumped my shoulder with River giving him a knowing look.
"You still care." I beamed knowing fully well what the underlining situation of his command was.
"More like I don't feel like get my ass kicked by his mom. Zoe was probably some how watching our exchange." He shivered probably remembering a time she had busted him doing something he shouldn't.
There was only three people in this world that River would fully admit he'd never stand up to and funny enough they were all woman.

Zoe.
Kate, his mom.
My mom.
Funny enough I've watched him stand up to my dad without a second guess. My dad was just impressed by his outburst that dad had told Reagan to keep River close.
My dad seen something in River that day even if he didn't say it out loud to the rest of us.
As we creeped closer to the house I seen the shadow move once again near the window and I wasn't the only one to spot it this time. River had tensed beside me, bracing himself for a fight.
"I'll go through the back door, you go make a scene at the front one." River nodded at me knowing that it as probably for the best if we spilt up.
Quickly I jogged my way over to the back off the house and climbed the brown wooden fence with ease. My feet landed softly on the other side as I tried to keep attention from being drawn to me.
Who knows how many people were in this house.
Ducking below the window I made my way to the back door. I paused for a moment trying to listen to see if there was anyone on the other side of the door.
After a few moment of nothing I started to work on picking the lock just as I heard River kick in the front door around the other side.
Rolling my eyes I grinned at how we were going about this in two different ways.
Just as the door clicked open there was still nothing.
No sound.
The only thing I could hear was my own breathing and racing heart.
Pulling out my gun I creeped the door open slowly and walked in. The kitchen was all modern and hardly lived in. In fact I would take a guess to say that it was brand new.
It was all for show.
Quickly I made my way through meeting River in the hallway who had the same look on his face as I did.
Something wasn't right.
We were fully expecting a fight when we walked in, not silence.
River started to walk up the stairs with me quickly on his heels. The house creaked under our footsteps and I frowned at the sound and looked around once more.
Everything was so well done up but in some way it looked fake. Like they didn't care about the finishing details when they had put all this stuff in.
Then I spotted it.
A camera at the top of the stairs, it had blended into the darkness at the corner and I had no doubt that someone was watching us right now.
Grabbing River's arm I stopped him from going any further. He stopped instantly looking down at me.
"It's a trap." My voice was low as I whispered to him. Not daring to take my eyes away from the camera.
River followed my line of sight and caught on to what I was saying. Turning around I made my way down the stairs knowing that we had a better chance down here.
River stood beside me clicking the safety off his gun. I made my way into the living room, quickly looking around. There was another camera in the corner, watching our every move.
These were the same camera's that been giving Draven a false reading, a quick text to him all but proved that right.
Running my hand along the fireplace mantle I spotted what my instinct was telling me. There under a small stature was a tiny black camera that you would've never noticed unless you looked.
Holding it up to River he narrowed his eyes at it before I dropped it and smashed it under my boot.
Just as the camera went dead there was a sound up the stairs. Both me and River looked up at the ceiling above us with grins on our faces.
It was a trap.
Up there, they would've had the upper hand. They had wanted to lure us up there, they were ready for us but they didn't think it through completely.
I might not be my mom but I still knew how to think for myself.
A door opened up the stairs and my mind starting racing.
Diving behind the door to keep out of sight, River stayed out in the open. The two of us knew what we needed to do without even speaking.
As kids we had played stupid games like this but now it was a reality.
Now this was the world we actually lived in.
I listened carefully, three sets of footsteps. I wasn't fully convinced that was all there was though. With a quick glance at the camera on the wall I knew I was right.
The red light clicked on and it moved over to my direction. They had started to use the proper cameras and if I was to take a guess who ever was manning those cameras was telling them everything about our position.
There was two options.
Breaking the camera would result in us getting the surprise on them with what ever stunt we pulled but would make the forth person come out to help them.
Leaving it though was the better option. If we could take down the three of them even with the lack of surprise that would just leave the one.
The one that we would be able to get to information out off.
So I left the camera, trusting that both me and River could handle these three men.
Looking at River I could see he was ready for a fight.
He nodded at me and I nodded back.
The footsteps got louder as they reached the bottom of the stairs and I took a deep breath.
Then I made my move.
Swinging from around behind the door I shot without a second thought hitting my mark on the man closest to me. The shot rung in my ears but the second one was ready for it. Before the first man had even dropped to the ground he was firing shots at me.
Quickly I dropped to the ground and rolled out of the way. River had flattened himself against the wall beside the door, he was planning his next move carefully in his eyes.
The men must have earpieces in because they were hesitating on coming any closer. They knew River was there and that I was still flattened against the floor waiting for them to put one wrong foot in the room.
You could've heard a pin drop with the silence that had fallen within the house.
We were in a stalemate.
Neither of us wanted to make the first move but I was getting impatient with the situation.
We could've stood like this all night.
Without a second thought I slammed the door closed giving me mere seconds to change my position.
I couldn't give the one controlling the camera a chance to update them on what was going on.
"Come on is that all you've got?" I taunted wanting to get a rise out of them. There was a grin on my lips as I spoke, River shook his head in his own amusement.
Even being this close to death we both didn't seem to care.
Standing head on in front of the door I knew it was only a matter of time before they kicked it in.
A few seconds later there was a kick at the door but the door didn't move.
"Come on." I called out with a bored sounding voice. "What the fuck was that? My granny could kick my ass better than what you had just done to that door."
This time their next kick was out of anger and it sent the door flying open. Before the man even had his foot on the floor again River had made his move.
River swung around the corner and grabbed the man by the shirt pulling him in giving me the opening to get the third man.
This one was ready for it.
Ducking out of the way of my shot he dived towards me ramming his shoulder into my stomach. A sharp pain shot through my rib but it was nothing against the pain on my back when it hit the wall.
All the air left my lungs and it took me a second to get my vision to focus. When it did I just had enough time to move my head out of the way of a punch heading straight for me.
The man's fist hit the wall where my head had once been and while he was off balanced shoved him back using the wall as a leverage.
My gun was lost somewhere on floor after he had gotten to me but that didn't bother me.
I was well used to fighting by hand.
Taking my stance a grin crossed my lips as I looked at his confused expression. He wasn't expecting me to take him on so openly.
"Come on." I gloated with my hand letting him know I was ready for anything. "Let's see how you feel after getting your ass kicked by a girl."
A sharp frustrated sound left his lips before he came charging towards me to once more.
Rolling my eyes I used his own speed and weight against him as hit him in the throat. He made a loud chocking sound as he reached up to where I had hit him.
Not giving him a chance to recover I swung around him and kicked him on the back of his head. There was a moment stillness before he dropped to the floor knocked out.
Reaching for my gun that I had left on the ground I looked at it then back at the man before sighing.
There was no way I was going to shot a defenceless man.
There was no doubt I was a lot of things in life but I didn't kill in cold blood.
If he was awake, that would be a different story.
So I grabbed whatever I could and bounded his wrists and feet before stepping away.
Looking at River I seen him standing over the other man who was now dead on the ground. His gun was still pointed at the man's forehead with the aftermath clearly displayed.
Slowly his gaze lifted up to mine and I could see the adrenaline running through them emerald green eyes. In that moment I knew that if I had to describe the devils eyes, his were what I'd picture.
Those eyes had all the allure of an angels, with the wickedness of the devils. A deadly combination in someone who knew how to get what he wanted.
This was the side of River that was going to make him infamous. He was going to become something more than his father.
Maybe even more powerful than my own.
This is the life that he lived and breathed for. This was the side of life that I knew he would never walk away from. Since the moment he was thrown into this world it was all that he had wanted.
He wanted to take them all on, he wanted to push himself to the limit of where his mind and body would take him.
If anyone knew River Knight, it was me.
And he was the reason I could never fully think that this wasn't the life for me.
"Let's go find him."
We both were thinking the same thing.
Heath was up the stairs watching us.
