《Future Dynasty》Lecture Thirteen

My mind was racing.

After my whole show at school I had walked out and didn't take one look back. The principle had tried to put me in my place but he didn't stand a chance. He knew he couldn't do anything knowing who my family was. Plus what was he actually going to punish me over?

After all I wasn't the one who had started those rumours.

Sighing I stopped at a red light and placed my feet on the ground on either side of my motorbike. Taking out my phone I seen that it was eleven o'clock at night.

Slowly another bike started to approach and I quickly put my phone back in my jacket pocket. Leaning forward, I ignored the bike as it stopped beside me. Reeving my engine I was caught of guard when the other person kicked me on the leg gently.

In shock I turned to face them about to lose my shit and ask what the fuck they were doing before I seen who it was.

River.

He had pulled the visor up on his helmet and was giving me a cheeky grin as he once again kicked me in the leg. This time I almost fell over just saving myself last second.

Narrowing my eyes at him I straightened my bike before reaching over shoving his head making him let out a deep chuckle.

A smile smile creeped across my lips at our exchange and for a moment I forgot about my racing thoughts.

Pushing down his visor he reeved the engine of his bike. River's head tilted my way and I knew he was challenging me. Even though I couldn't see his face I knew a cheeky grin would be spread across his lips.

The smile on my face grew bigger and I leaned forward again, with one foot still on the ground and the other ready to take off. Reeving my engine I could feel the power of the bike below me and I felt myself come alive.

My mom had once told me that there was no better feeling than having a powerful engine under your control and there was no doubt in my mind she was right.

Adrenaline was running through my veins and my eyes were locked in on the road ahead of us. There was just a few cars but nothing that would get in our way or cause any problems.

The city lights reflected off the ground and in moments like this the City never looked prettier. There was something so peaceful about my home when most of the world was asleep. It made me think that all the problems in the world just didn't exist, even for just a moment.

Taking a deep breath I watched and waited.

Just waiting for that green light to appear.

Then it changed.

My tyres squealed at me as I took off leaving a mark on the street and smoke in my wake. The wind was pressing me lower on my bike as I started to weave in and out of the few cars on the road. Some of the them I was mere inches away from as I skill fully tailgated them till last second.

Between fighting and racing I never knew which one made me feel more alive. All I knew was that when I was on a bike there was no where else in the world I could get rush of not knowing what was going to happen.

Reading people in a fight was a lot more easier than predicting what was going on around me on the streets.

Looking to my right I noticed that River was mere paces away but I knew I had our little race in the bag.

Shifting gears my bike it shot off with a new sense of speed letting me reach the next set of lights first.

Slowly we came to a stop at another red light.

Letting out a laugh I lifted my visor to look at River. I'm pretty sure my eyes were glowing with adrenaline right now and my body telling me to do it again.

"I win again, you're getting shit at this River."

River scoffed and lifted his visor, his eyes just as bright as my own. That was the thing about me and River, that rush that we felt was something we shared and was often what got us in trouble together.

"I let you win."

"Yea, yea." I said waving him off. "What are you even doing out here?"

"Going to cause trouble." There wasn't any hesitation in his words as he told me. It was rare me and River kept anything from each other. Suddenly there was a devilish look in his eyes. "Want to tag along?"

"Are you seriously asking me if I want to cause trouble?" This time I scoffed like he had just said the most stupidest thing in the world. "Lead the way."

"Thought so." River gave me a wink before pushing his visor down and I did the same.

This time when we took off I let him lead the way. Soon I realized we were heading slightly out of the City to the port that we had been at a few days ago.

The night that had made me see my mom in a very different light.

River came a stop behind some containers and I followed his lead as we parked up our bikes. We done our best to try and keep them out of sight. Once we were done I started to ask the questions that were dancing in my mind.

"What type of trouble we causing?"

River glanced around the corner of the container before opening the seat of his bike and pulling out three guns. He handed me one and I didn't even bother to tell him that I already had one around the waistband of the trousers.

Even though I was just out for a drive I was still the daughter of a crime family. You never knew what type of trouble you would run into.

"Technically, your brother told me to spy but where is the fun in that." He opened the barrel of the first gun making sure it was loads but clicking it closed again.

"Spy on what?"

"Reagan caught word that there was going to be another shipment. The same sort of shipment from that time we were here. He wants me to take photos of the men involved so that we can find out who we are dealing with."

Something about River's voice told me that he wasn't satisfied with just spying on the situation. Spying wasn't really River's style but it was also something he was good at.

Getting information was a skill of his and it didn't just involve spying. He often preferred the other ways.

He was definitely Zane Knight's son.

"Is that why you got called away from school earlier? My brother wanted to see you?" Curiosity had been killing me all day on wanting to know what had been said between Ezra and River.

"One of the reasons." Agreed River as he put one of the guns in his jacket. "Also your brother asked me where you were earlier. I'm guessing you still haven't been home since."

"What ever Reagan wants to say to me probably isn't important. Probably just wants to make sure I haven't caused any trouble."

"Well that comes down to what kind of trouble he's talking about doesn't it."

Looking around the container again River checked that there was no one about for the last time. Once he was satisfied we started to walk closer to the port where we got see that the ship had already been docked.

We tried our best to stick to the shadows. Blending into our environment and where we couldn't we made a quick crossing to where ever we could. As we got closer I could see about ten people down at the dock. If my gut told me anything it was that there was probably guards walking about the place then.

"Wait." Stopping in my tracks I held up my hand against River's cheek to get him to stop too.

He looked at me curiously but said nothing as I looked around. We needed to get closer some how without being seen. All around us there was containers so we might as well put them to use.

"This way." Whispering I didn't look behind me as I started to walk between containers trying to spot something that would help us get on top of them. The space between most of them was no more than three foot.

"What are you looking for?"

"This." Walking over there was crates of wooden pallets placed against one of the containers. It was enough to get on top of it with a bit of a stretch.

As we climbed on top of the pallets River grabbed me by the waist and gave me a boost up. It was just enough for me to grab the edge of the container to pull myself up.

As I got to my feet on top of it River followed behind. As I waited I was able to see everything from our new height advantage. The only problem was that we were going to need to be careful. The containers could leave to much noise if we didn't watch our footing.

"We should be able to get within a good distance up here."

River nodded in agreement as we made sure to stick to the middle of the containers. Never letting ourselves stomp to heavy on top of them. Soon enough we were within feet of what was going on down at the dock.

As we made our way across we had spotted a few guards walking up and down the walk ways. They were always looking around them making sure no one was about.

It was pretty clear they were trying to hide something.

"Look." River pointed in front of us and we pushed ourselves down so that we were flat on our stomachs.

The men were unloading the parcels into the back of a truck. Most of the men were working in silence as they walks back and forth from the truck. What caught my eye was the three men that were taking amongst each other.

One of them looked familiar and I frowned in thought. He was young maybe a few years older than me. After a few seconds it finally hit me.

He was that guy from the day at the gym.

Heath.

That was what those men had called him that day.

Elbowing River to get his attention I pointed down at the three men, mainly at Heath. "That's the guy that was at the gym that day."

River looked at me with a frown before it finally clicked in. "He was the one that you were fighting."

"Yea, I'd take a guess and say all of this is connected some how."

Our voices were hardly at a whisper yet I still felt uncomfortable incase we were overheard.

River pulled out his phone and started to take photos of the men that were involved. The rest of them I didn't recognize but that didn't mean my mom or Reagan wouldn't.

Suddenly one of the men who had been loading up the truck made their way over to the three men. I pushed myself closer to the edge to try and gather what they were saying.

"It's ready to go boss."

The man had spoken to one of the older men and for the first time I noticed just how similar him and Heath looked. They had the same sort of eyes and facial shape. If I was to guess that was either his dad or an uncle.

"Good." The man turned his back on Heath and the third man. "We need to get this shipment out of here before it's noticed. Riker and his bitch are already getting suspicious of what's happening down here."

My eyes narrowed at the word that he had called my mom and it took all the self restraint I had not to react.

River's hand grabbed my shoulder knowing that I might have jumped out at them.

"Don't, it's not the right time." His voice was low but I could tell he was annoyed too.

"Who the fuck are these dicks?" Venom laced my voice as I narrowed my eyes dangerously at the men in front of me.

After their whole showdown at the gym I hadn't taken much interest in them. Even though they had come for me I hadn't gave them a second thought. Being the daughter of Riker Kennedy meant that many of my father's enemies would try and use his children against him. It was one of the reason my dad had gone to such lengths to make sure we knew how to defend ourselves.

The problem was that we had received so many threats over my life that I didn't pay much attention to them anymore. My dads men were always in the background to fix the situation but something was telling me this time it was different.

These men seemed to know what they were doing and they were challenging my dad on his own turf. This fight was running a lot deeper than I had first thought. For a moment I started to think about were my dad was right now.

My dad was currently in Italy and it was a battle that had been going on long since before I was born. I remembered my uncle Ace had once told me about how our family and Italian mafia had come to blows years ago. After there had been peace, well as much peace as there could be between two families that hated each other.

As I listened to the men talk down below they didn't have an accent which told me they were from here. In fact if I was to guess they were even from our City if not then from one of the ones that surrounded us.

So many questions were running through my mind right now but I knew now wasn't the time to voice them. The sound of the engine of the truck snapped me back to reality and it made my eyes narrow.

"I can't believe how easy it is to sneak this into the City. Those kids have been eating out the palm of our hand since we started bringing in these shipments." Commented one of the men as he lit up a cigarette. The smug look on his face didn't settle well with me. There was something off about how they were talking.

"What are they talking about?" My eyes shifted to River who didn't look away from the men once. He seemed to tense up at the question but told me anyway.

"There's a new supply of drugs going about the City. They're selling it for half of what your dads men are selling theirs for. The City has been raving about it since it came onto the streets but Reagan couldn't find out who was in charge of it until I told him about what I seen the other day. When we were here and Nick showed us the dock I knew instantly what was going on."

"Is that why Reagan was spending so much time away from home? He was trying to track down were this stuff was coming from?"

"Yea. Your dad is caught up in Italy at the moment so he put Reagan in charge of it thinking it was no more than some wanna be drug dealer. Sometimes the smaller dealers are able to sneak in under our noses because we are to busy dealing with the bigger fish. It seems though that it's a lot more than just that now."

"-those stupid kids don't even know what's in this shit." The end of the men's conversation completely caught me off guard and I wasn't the whole one. River looked like he was ready to charge right in there but stopped himself last second.

We were to far out numbered.

"You don't think...."

Looking over at River I knew that we were both thinking the same thing. What ever they were bringing into this City wasn't legit product. There was always going to be a problem with taking drugs and it wasn't something that I would do myself.

My mom terrified me too much to even dare think about taking it.

But taking something that was legit product and something that was a complete rip off was very different. Some drug smugglers and dealers didn't care as long as they got their money at the end of the day. That was clearly the case here.

The truck started moving and I knew that we were running out of time.

We needed to stop that truck from getting into the City.

Me and River shared a lot and I knew we were both thinking the same thing. We needed to get ahold of that truck and now. Nodding in agreement we shot up from our hiding spot and started to sprint our way back to our bikes not giving a shit who heard us.

Trouble was definitely coming our way.
