《Future Dynasty》Lecture Eight

"You can't hold me here."
There was no one in the room but I knew they were watching and listening to me through the cameras. My temper was rising and I was getting more pissed off every second.
They had no reason to hold me here and yet they had me sit in one of their interrogation rooms. Now I was no saint and even though I was seventeen I have had my fair share of run ins with the cops but nothing like this.
For a start I wasn't in the station, no I was somewhere far worse I was in the F.B.I headquarters and as much as I was pissed I was just as equally uncomfortable.
Me, River and Nick had all be separated as soon as we stepped foot into the building. Me and River knew the routine well, you don't tell them anything.
Sooner or later our parents would have to be called and that's when I knew we would be walking out of here.
The door clicked open and I glanced up to see the woman from earlier walk in. With the light I was able to see her more clearly. She was pretty with her long dark hair and tanned skin. Her brown eyes were studying me and her high cheekbones and slim face looked familiar but I couldn't quite place where.
"Daniella, right?" I asked questioning her.
"I do the questioning in here." She took the set across from me at the table and I let out a sigh.
The thing about me was that I might feel uncomfortable but I was able to fake that fact. Relaxing my body I tried to make myself look at home. Frankly I had nothing to hide and we didn't do anything wrong.
"What where you doing at the port?" She followed her arms on the table and leaned forward trying her best to look intimidating. Maybe to other people she was, with her sharp eyes and cutting edge looks but I knew intimidating and she wasn't it.
My mom was the master of that game and this woman stood no chance against that.
"Are you not going to start by asking me my name?" I asked gesturing to the cameras, I also knew that everything was being recorded. My dad had taught me more than enough about how to handle this situations.
"I know who you are Layla Kennedy." She cleared her throat and didn't met my eyes when she mentioned my name and that made me frown.
Thinking back to how Nick knew her and greeted her so easily maybe I did know her some how after all.
"How do you know Nick?" Curiosity was killing me over this situation.
"I told you I'm asking the questions." At the sound of Nick's name her voice had risen telling me there was definitely something there.
"Doesn't mean I can't asked my own." Responded I leaned back in my chair and started to pay around with the handcuffs that kept my hands behind the chair.
"You're the one in handcuffs being interrogated right now so no you don't ask the questions." Daniella glared my way and I could tell I was getting under her skin. I had a knack for that, my brothers and sister had told me that plenty of times.

"Actually...." Trailing of I brought my hands forward with the handcuffs in one hand. I had easily escaped from them as we spoke. It was a handy trick to have and it was fun shocking the cops faces when I showed them my little party trick.
Snapping the cuffs out of my hand she looked at them for any fault. When she found nothing she looked back up to me surprised. "How did you do that?"
"It's a secret." Shrugging I stretched out my arms high above my head showing of my freedom.
Looking over at the glass window I gave a wave in its direction and then at the camera. There was no doubt there was more than just Daniella watching me right now.
They wanted something and I didn't know what it was.
My attention then turned to Daniella again.
"Speaking of secrets I know you're bound to have some." Leaning forward I dropped my voice low so that the cameras couldn't over hear. "After all if you know Nick and judging from how he greeted you, you know him well. Which tells me you have secrets of your own."
"I have no secrets."
Scoffing I leaned back in my chair. "Everyone has secrets no matter what they say."
Tilting my head I looked at her carefully and she too stared me down. I don't know what their game plan was if sending her in here or what information they were looking for but there was definitely something about Daniella that stood out to me.
Leaning forward again I spoke once again.
"Do you know my brother?"
Her whole body froze and I couldn't help but let the smirk cross my face. She definitely knew my older brother Reagan.
"Levi? Of course I know him to. There's a whole file on your family."
Letting out a laugh I knew she was trying to twist the conversation back to the way she wanted it to go. "I wasn't talking about my twin brother. I was talking about my infamous older brother Reagan. I'm sure you know all about him too." Clicking my tongue with a sly grin I then continued on. "Maybe more than you would want to admit."
She didn't make eye contact with me as she flipped through the folder in front of her. She tried to look interested on what ever was in it but her eyes skimmed the page too quick for her actually to be registering anything on it.
"What where you doing at the port?"
Daniella tried going back to the question that started this all off and I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
"Sight seeing."
My voice was blank as I spoke and I kept my face neutral. There was no point in telling them the truth and it wouldn't benefit me in anyway in doing so.
The door to the room opened and a man walked in with another pair of handcuffs in his hands. Clearly they didn't want me running around here freely seeing as how easily they were willing to trap me back in them.
"Really?" Nodding to towards the cuffs I gave Daniella an annoyed look. "What makes you think I can't get of them again?"
Daniella said nothing as the man moved closer to me. He seemed unsure as he looked towards the one way glass but didn't stop his movement. My eyes never left Daniella's as I felt the man grab my left wrist.

A challenge raised in me as she stared me down.
Time seemed to slow down and before he was able to click the cuffs into place I grabbed his wrist with my right hand. Not looking away from Daniella I sent her a sweet smile before making my move.
Quickly standing up from my seat in a flash I hit the man in the throat making him choke. Daniella stood up from her seat but she wasn't quick enough as the man tried to catch his breath. Reaching out I grabbed the cuffs from the mans hand putting one side of them on his own wrist attaching them to the leg of the table.
The tables were bolted to the floor so stepping away I grinned as I looked at my handy work. The man had a mixture of shock and disbelief running through his face as he tried to catch his breath.
"Come on." Gloating her on I dared her to come for me. Cracking my neck I started to circle the table away from the man but Daniella did the same. She was making sure to keep a distance between the two of us but that was a mistake on her part.
Now I was closer to the door.
There was no chance of me escaping from here but that didn't mean I couldn't make my own fun. So I did the only other option I had left.
I locked the door.
After a few seconds banging was heard on the other side of the door. People demanding that the door was unlocked but I paid them no attention.
"You wanted me to move." Daniella looked just surprised as the man who was still handcuffed to the table.
"Just creating my own fun. You people are boring with all your questions." Walking towards the table I made sure to keep my true attention away from her sight.
The other handcuffs that I had escaped from where still sitting on the table.
They were my goal.
"Do you have any type of idea what type of trouble you're in?"
Daniella spoke like her words were meant to mean something to me.
"It's just another typical day for me."
Looking deliberately at the mans gun that was right where I thought it would be Daniella made the move I wanted her to make. She pulled out her own gun and I used her distraction from the table to fake my way towards the man grabbing the handcuffs on the way.
Pretending to reach for his gun I stopped a mere foot away from the man making sure I was just out of his grasp when Daniella shouted out to me.
"Stop!"
The cold metal of the handcuffs had a cooling effect through my adrenaline packed body. A grin never left my face as I was now standing between the man and Daniella.
Just where I wanted to be.
Looking at her I could see her hands shake as she handled the gun. She didn't know what to do. Clearly there was nothing in their training to handle something like this. After all we were in the F.B.I headquarters. Somewhere that they were meant to rule.
Yet here I was.
Doing what I did best.
With quick reactions I hit her arm away that held out the gun throwing her off balanced but she recovered quicker than I thought. Throwing the butt of the gun my way she tried to hit me but I was even quicker. Seeing it coming I dodged and spun around her hitting the back of her knee in the process.
Falling to one of her knees I quickly knocked her shoulder making her loosen her grip on the gun. Her focus was pulled towards the gun as she struggled to not drop it like I expected and I was able to grab her other arm and lock it in the handcuffs. Then in turn locked the other side onto the other leg of the table.
Stepping back I noticed the man now had his gun drawn and was pointing it straight at me. Kicking my leg out at his arm he easily dropped it and I quickly reached for it on the ground.
Standing up I pointed it directly at the mans head as Daniella pointed her own at me. She had now recovered but surprise was running through her features as she pulled at her handcuffed arm trying to free it.
We both knew it was no use.
"You might want to put the gun down." Clicking the safety off I made a point of it as I didn't waver once away from the mans head. "If you shot me I'm shooting him and we both know I'll come out better off than he will."
Daniella looked between me and the man before resting her dark eyes back on me.
"You won't shot him."
Letting out a laugh I looked at her like she was joking. "If you've read about my family you would know damn well enough what I'm capable off."
Seconds past but finally she dropped the gun to the ground and kicked it towards me. Tilting my head with a grin I picked up the gun and made it look like I was inspecting it.
Sighing I walked over to the table I placed them both on it. Both of them were studying me, trying to work out what my next move was going to be.
There wasn't one.
Sliding the guns back over to them I sat back down on the chair that Daniella had been sitting on just moments ago. Throwing my legs up on the table I got comfortable as the banging outside the door got louder.
"What are you playing at?" Daniella questioned lifting her gun but she didn't make a move to point it in my direction. Neither did the other man.
"Nothing really." Responding I shrugged my shoulders almost bored. "Was just having a bit of fun.
"A bit of fun." Daniella looked at me like I was unbelievable and maybe I was.
Finally the door unlocked.
Grinning over my shoulder I took in the agents bursting in through the door. "Looks like the finally found the key."

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!
