《Pokémon Sun & Moon: Emethyst's Journey》...Are You Ready For It?

My dad, Ash, my Pokemon, Rotom Dex and I arrived at where I assumed was Kahuna Hala's. It was a place in Iki Town that was kind of in the middle of nothing, but jungle. I heard Pokemon cries of all sorts in the trees all around. The air was also very fresh, and every breath was calming me down just a little. Mimikyu sat perched up on my left shoulder as she always did, and Froslass and Gengar floated at my sides.
My heart was pounding in my chest, for I didn't really know what to expect. I didn't really know why I was so nervous; I just was. I guess because I didn't really know what was going to happen. Mimikyu cuddled up to my face to calm me down just as she had been doing, and it was working somewhat. "Thanks." I said to her, as I hugged her to my neck.
"Calm down, Emethyst." I said to myself, mentally. "Just relax." I thought.
"Nervous much?" My dad's voice said, which caused me to jump a little.
"No." I said, as I crossed my arms over each other. I knew I was a bad liar at this point, but I tried to keep my cool as much as possible. Mimikyu kept rubbing up against my face to try to get me to calm down.
When my dad and Ash were a little ahead of me, I stopped walking. I put my hand on my chest, and breathed for a second. Gengar and Froslass stopped when I did, and stood in front of me. They turned to face me.
"Geng?" Gengar said, as he looked down at me with his red eyes.
"Fros?" Froslass said.
I allowed a small smile at them. "Sorry guys, I am very nervous. I don't exactly know why, but I am." I said, as I looked off to the side. I still didn't know what to expect, and I guess that's what was scaring me a little. I took a few deep breaths of the fresh air around me, and tried to calm down.
Suddenly, I saw Froslass's and Gengar's eyes wander away from me, and look up at the trees behind me. I then heard rustling in the trees. "Huh?" I said, as I turned around. I looked up at the deep green trees, but I didn't hear the rustling anymore. I now felt like I was being watched. I looked around at my surroundings, but still didn't see anything. I soon brushed it off being a Pokemon playing around in the trees.
"Emethyst!" I heard my dad's voice call behind me.
I rolled my eyes, and took a deep breath. "I'm coming, I'm coming." I mumbled as I exhaled. I turned around, and was met with a new face.
He was a bigger old man. He had gray, almost white hair. He wore a blue shirt with a yellow throw-over that looked to have hibiscus or another similar type of flower all over it.

"Ah, Emethyst!" The old man exclaimed. "It's so good to see you after all of these years!"
I felt my eyebrow raise in confusion. I felt the same way I did in the exact moment when I met Olivia for the first time. However, I smiled and tried to be polite. "Um, you too?" I said, smiling nervously.
The old man walked over to me. "Oh, foolish me. You probably don't remember," He said, and chuckled a little. "The last time I saw you, you were barely standing on your own." He said, smiling with his mouth closed.
My dad then walked over by my side. "Emethyst, this is Kahuna Hala. The Kahuna of Melemele Island." He said.
I had a hunch that's who he was, but I was still nervous and unsure. "Oh, okay." I said, shyly. "Nice to see you again." I said, as I closed my eyes bashfully. It feels like everyone here only knew me as a baby. It felt odd that all of these people I don't remember know me. But, it made sense.
Kahuna Hala then opened his brown eyes to look at me. He then started chuckling. "Oh Emethyst, you are the spitting image of your father," He said, as he looked me straight in the eye. "I knew from the moment I seen you, you were gonna favor him over your mother." He chuckled.
I giggled a little. "So I've been told." I said, as I looked over at my dad who was smirking at me. I still kind of wish I would have gotten just a little bit of my mom's looks. Oh so help me if I was a boy. I'd be my dad's literal twin, probably.
"Calm down." My dad said, as he shook my right shoulder. I felt Mimikyu's soft cloth rub against my left cheek.
"Oh she's fine, professor." Kahuna Hala said, and smiled. "It's not abnormal to be nervous for something like this, but come on in. We have a lot to talk about it seems." He said, happily.
Gengar and Froslass followed behind me, and Mimikyu sat perched up on her favorite spot which was my shoulder. I followed Kahuna Hala into his home. The air conditioning felt amazing on my clammy skin. I felt Mimikyu holding onto my tank top strap with her little hands underneath her cloth.
Kahuna Hala lead us I guess what was his living room. There was a big couch that wrapped around a coffee table, and I saw a big Hariyama sitting on the floor that looked to be meditating. "Oh yeah, that's right... Fighting types." I thought to myself, as I remembered what my dad had told me.
"Have a seat, please." Kahuna Hala said, as he took a seat. I took a seat in front of him, and my dad and Ash sat next to me. Gengar and Froslass sat down on the ground, while Mimikyu still sat perched up on my shoulder. I could see her looking around out of the corner of my eye.

Kahuna Hala sighed. "Before we get started, I just wanted to say I'm sorry about your mother, Emethyst. I know this past month and a half probably hasn't been easy for you." He said, as he picked up a white mug; I assumed to be coffee.
I looked off to the side, as I felt my light smile drop a little. But instead, I picked it right back up and looked back over at him. "It's okay, I'm coping." I said, trying to stay happy. "I was a wreck at first, but coming back to Alola has been good for me. I owe it to my dad for bringing me home." I said, as I looked over at his green framed eyes with a smile on my face.
I then looked over at Ash, and noticed his expression change a little. "Wait, what happened to your mom?" Ash asked, as he got a bit of a sad expression. It then dawned on me that he probably didn't know the real reason why I was here in Alola. "Pi-ka?" Pikachu said as he looked over at me as well.
I felt my eyebrow raise. "Wait, you don't know?" I asked, as I looked over at his slightly saddened and confused face.
"Hey, let's talk about this later." My dad said to us, softly. I honestly would feel more comfortable with that. I nodded in agreement.
Everyone was quiet for the moment, until Kahuna Hala broke the silence. "So, Emethyst. Your father tells me you're here for a potential Grand Trial." He said, as he smiled.
I nodded. "Yeah, something like that." I said, smiling nervously. I didn't exactly know what to say, so I just went with the flow. I then thought about the Ghostium Z that was in my sweatpants pocket. I reached into my pocket, and pulled the familiar purple Z Crystal out. "I went to Poni Island, and came home with this." I said, as I showed the Z Crystal off in my palm.
Kahuna Hala then got an interested look on his face. "Oh, so you've already had a grand trial." He said, as he smiled.
I raised my eyebrow in confusion. "Um, no?" I said, unsure. I don't at least think I did. I then thought back to the battle with my mom. Was that Tapu Fini's way of giving me a grand trial? I was now confused.
Kahuna Hala chuckled patiently. "Well Emethyst, how did you obtain the Z Crystal?" He asked.
I felt my mouth drop open a little, because I wasn't sure if he would believe me if I told him. "Um.. Would it be crazy if I told you I battled my mother, and I won against her?" I asked.
I saw Kahuna Hala's expression change a little. "Well no, not exactly. You said you had this battle on Poni Island?" He asked, as he put his white mug down.
I nodded my head in response. "Yes." I replied.
Kahuna Hala then looked to have thought for a moment. I saw his closed eyes wandering from side to side. I didn't know what he was thinking, but he looked to be interested. "Well, this is very interesting if I do say so myself." Kahuna Hala finally said.
"What do you mean, Hala?" My dad asked.
My eyes then wandered to the window sort of behind Kahuna Hala's head. For a split second, I thought I saw something yellow, orange, and black move really quickly by the glass. It was like a blur. However, it happened so fast; I could have been hallucinating.
Kahuna Hala sighed. "Island Guardians don't just give out Z Crystals like candy," he said. "Tapu Fini saw something in you, Emethyst. Especially because you don't even have a Z ring, yet." Kahuna Hala confirmed. "But with Tapu Fini being the most mysterious out of the guardians, it's hard to tell what. This is very interesting to me." He said, as he looked down. Kahuna Hala then paused for a moment.
"But, it looks to me the battle with your mother was Tapu Fini's Grand Trial for you." He continued.
I felt my mouth fall open a little, as I couldn't believe what I was being told. I then looked down at the purple Z crystal in my hand. Tapu Fini saw something in me? What, exactly?
"Wow Emethyst, that's so awesome!" Ash exclaimed happily. "You know, Tapu Koko bought me my Z ring before I even got a Z crystal." He added.
I then looked over at him, amazed. "Really?" Wait, Tapu Koko... Isn't that the Melemele Island Guardian? I thought to myself.
My dad chuckled in response. "Yes, Ash is a gifted kid. When he first came to Alola, Tapu Koko had a killer interest in him and still does." He explained. "However, it's amazing to find out Tapu Fini has an interest in you too, Emethyst." He said, as he hugged me.
I smiled, as I looked down at the Z Crystal. I didn't really know how to feel right now. My heart was overcome with so many different emotions. It felt like I was having another really good dream that I didn't want to wake up from.
Kahuna Hala then stood up. "You know what Emethyst, I very rarely do this." He said, as he looked down at me with his eyes closed. "But, I'm a little anxious. I want to go ahead and give you your Grand Trial." He said, and smiled.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
