《Pokémon Sun & Moon: Emethyst's Journey》Chapter 51

I laid on my bed in sullen silence after what happened. I stared through the window on the ceiling, as I watched Spearow and other flying types I didn't recognize fly by. Mimikyu sat next to me, and refused to leave my side. Froslass and Gengar were downstairs playing with the other Pokemon I assumed. My dad, Ash, and Rotom Dex were watching some detective show that Rotom was high key obsessed with. He even wore a weird blonde wig every time he watched it. After what happened; I wasn't in the mood to really be sociable. The redness on my arms had gone away, so I didn't have worry about anyone asking me questions.
"Hey, Emethyst!" I heard Ash exclaim from below. "You coming down here?!" He called.
I rolled my eyes in annoyance, and sighed. "Sorry, I'm not in the mood." I said, blandly. Mimikyu waddled over closer to me, and perched herself on my stomach. I sat up a little to where I was elevated on my pillow, as I looked at her.
"You know you can go down there and play with the other Pokemon, if you want." I said to Mimikyu, as I looked at her beady eyes underneath her cloth. "You don't have to stay up here with me." I said. I knew she was probably bored up here with me.
"Kyu." Mimikyu said, as she shook her head side to side.
I allowed a small smile once I realized she was staying by my side like I stayed by hers in her time of need. I was still scared for what was to come after that brawl with my dad. I knew it was going to be hard for me to get over what happened, but he did seem genuinely sorry.
I picked Mimikyu up, and sat up to where she was now on my lap. I hugged her tightly. "Thank you, Mimikyu." I said to her, as I felt her warmth on my chest.
"Kyu." She said, as I felt her warm shadow arms wrap around me once again. It was amazing, because I never knew a Pokemon could be so full of love. Gengar and Froslass give me alot of love, but the love I felt from Mimikyu was like no other. She was like my little adopted baby. "Thank you for staying by my side." I said to her, quietly.
Out of nowhere; I was reminded of my Ghostium Z. I had completely forgotten about it until now. I don't know what triggered the memory, but I put Mimikyu down to my left. I got up, and walked over to my Gastly evolution backpack. I bent down, and opened the small front compartment. I found the purple Z Crystal sitting beautifully where I had left it. I picked it up, and examined it in my palm just as I had done earlier.
I still couldn't believe that I obtained this. It still felt like something out of my dreams. I never would have imagined this would have happened. Gengar evolving and battling with my mom one more time was a wish come true.

Z crystal in hand; I walked back over to Mimikyu, who still sat perched up on my bed looking at me. I took a seat next to her on my bed, and examined the Z crystal once more. Mimikyu moved into my lap, and looked at it with me.
"This is a Ghostium Z," I said to her, as I held the crystal in front of her eyes. "Isn't it cool?" The crystal caught the sun's reflection, making it glisten.
"Kyu!" Mimikyu exclaimed, as she jumped up and down my lap. She seemed excited. She then hopped off of my lap onto the wooden floor, and began doing a dancing motion. She wiggled herself up, and then brought out her shadow arms like a Haunter's hands in a way. She looked like she was doing a dance of sorts. I thought it was cute, as I began giggling at her dance.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my dad's familiar labcoated shirtless figure climb up. Mimikyu continued doing her little dance, and I continued watching her. I didn't know what she was doing, but I was enjoying it.
"You're so adorable." I said to her, as I continued watching her. I clutched the Z Crystal, and looked back down at it in my palm. The sun's yellow rays from the ceiling contrasted well with the purple shine from the crystal, making it glimmer.
"How's it going up here?" My dad's familiar voice came from my left. I turned my attention to his familiar green framed eyes. I was still on edge from what happened earlier.
I shrugged. "Fine, why?" I replied, quickly.
My dad put his hands in his lab coat pockets. "Nothing, just figured I'd check you." He said, blankly.
He was beginning to kind of annoy me. "Well, you don't have to keep checking up on me every fifteen minutes. I'm fine." I snapped a little. I turned my attention to the Z crystal in my palm, and tried to distract myself from him. I was still uncomfortable with what had happened earlier, and I still wasn't completely over it. I then looked up at Mimikyu, and she looked at me with her baby doll eyes. I allowed a small smile at her, as I tried my hardest to focus my attention on something else besides my dad.
"Do you still want to go see the Kahuna tomorrow?" My dad asked, hesitantly. Truthfully, I didn't know what I wanted to do right now. I was still hurt, and the last thing on my mind right now was a grand trial. I just wanted the hurt to go away. I wanted to forget what happened earlier, but it was still fresh on my mind and wouldn't go away.
"I don't know." I replied. I looked back down at the crystal in my hand, and toyed around with it to make it glisten in the sunlight from the window above.
I heard my dad sigh. There was a long pause after that. I continued examining the Z crystal in my palm. It was like my best friend right now, because it was keeping my eyes off of my dad.

"Well, if you need some more time to train we can always go one day after Pokemon school this week." My dad mentioned, breaking the silence.
I looked over at him. "Great." I said, nodding my head slightly. I then turned my attention back down to the z crystal. I looked away from it, and focused my attention on the wooden floor below me. I tried to get what happened earlier out of my mind, but it wasn't working. I felt a lump forming in my throat, as tears began welling in my eyes all over again. I folded the Z crystal in my hand, and rested my elbow on my left thigh. I rested my head on my folded fist.
I watched Mimikyu strut over to me, and she hugged my ankle with her shadow arms. "Kyu." She cooed, as she continued hugging me.
I saw my dad walk over to me through my left sided peripheral vision. I saw him sit next to me on my bed. I watched his arms open up. "Come here." He said, softly.
My mind was in a whirlwind of thoughts. I wanted to be left alone, but I also wanted to be comforted. I looked at him through the corner of my eye, and just fell to my left into his arms. I felt Mimikyu let go of my ankle. I knew he was trying hard to make things right, so I had to acknowledge that. But, I was still hurt.
I felt his arms wrap around me slowly. My left ear rested up against his chest to where I could hear his heartbeat. It was beating fast, as if he were nervous. I raised an eyebrow, as I looked up at him slightly through teary eyes.
"I'm so sorry, Emethyst." He said, as I heard his voice crack. I was now beginning to get tired of this heavy mood, so I decided it was time to lighten it up a bit.
I sat up, and looked at his green framed eyes. "Didn't I tell you to stop apologizing to me?" I said, as I allowed a small smile through teary eyes.
My dad now looked surprised, as I was pretty sure his now small smile expression now mirrored mine. "It doesn't matter, Emethyst. I'm going to keep apologizing. There's no excuse for what I did earlier." He said, as he pulled me into a hug.
I nodded in agreement. "You're right," I said. "But like I said, I forgive you. Forgetting will be hard, but it'll come with time, Dad. Just please.. I want to take the first step of trying to forget about this." I said, simply. I knew I couldn't keep dwelling on it forever, like my mother's death.
My dad sighed, and responded by hugging me tighter. I felt him begin rocking me back and forth slightly. "I love you, Emethyst." He said, finally. I could hear his voice cracking slightly.
"I love you too, dad." I replied. I could see Mimikyu on the floor, still doing that dance she was doing earlier. My dad then turned his attention to her. He chuckled a little at her.
"Looks like Mimikyu knows the Ghost type Z moves." He said, as I felt him move a little.
"Wait, really?" I said, surprised as I released from his embrace. I then looked down at Mimikyu, who was still doing the moves. "That's what that is?" I was amazed.
My dad turned to face me and nodded. "Yes." He said. "Those are the moves you do with your Pokemon when you initiate a Z move." He explained.
"That dance is so cute!" I exclaimed, as I watched Mimikyu continue doing the wiggle. "Kyu!" She exclaimed.
Watching Mimikyu do the Z move dance really made me want to train now, and actually go see the Kahuna tomorrow. I really wanted to just forget everything that happened today, and focus on my Pokemon journey here in Alola. I slipped the purple Z crystal into my sweatpants pocket, and got up and ran over to Mimikyu. I scooped her up, and put her on my right shoulder. I then ran over to the loft steps to climb down.
"Where are you going?" My dad asked, as I looked over at him. He then stood up, and walked over to me.
"I'm going to train for tomorrow!" I exclaimed happily, as I climbed down the steps. I got to the bottom of the steps, and saw Froslass and Gengar playing with Pikachu and Rockruff. I ran over to them in complete glee, and hugged them both with my arms tightly. I could tell they weren't expecting this."Come on you two, let's go train!" I exclaimed to them both.
"Froslass!" Froslass cheered.
"Gengar!" Gengar exclaimed.
Ash immediately heard this, and got up off the green couch. "Hey, wait for me!" Ash exclaimed behind me, as I ran to the door with Mimikyu holding onto my tank top strap.
"Pi-ka pika!" I heard Pikachu say behind me.
"Ruff!" I heard Rockruff bark.
I ran out the door, and felt the familiar sun hit my skin again. The sky was still a clear blue, and the waves were crashing up against the shore as they always were. It was beautiful. I was going to train harder than ever before now, for I now had a reason to do so.
"Alright Mimikyu, I choose you!" I exclaimed.

Professor Kukui smiled as he walked outside and watched Emethyst and Ash resume their training below on the beach.
"Mimikyu, use Shadow Sneak!" He heard her call to Mimikyu. Kukui watched her determined eyes, as he thought he was looking at a female mirror of himself
"There's my girl." He said to himself, as he recalled the times when he was younger. He saw that same fire in Emethyst that he saw within himself when he was her age.
He couldn't wait to see what tomorrow brought for her.

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
