《Pokémon Sun & Moon: Emethyst's Journey》Chapter 33

Knock knock knock!

"Emethyst!" I heard my dad's familiar voice behind the bathroom door. "Are you okay in there?"

My palm flew to my face, as I turned the water off. Did he really come in here to check on me? Could I really not bathe or do anything in peace without him breathing down my neck? I was beginning to get really annoyed. Not even my mom bugged me this much.

Knock knock knock!

"Emethyst!!" My dad called out a little more sternly. "Answer me!"

I opened the shower door, and stepped out. I sighed loudly. "Yes! Damn it dad, I'm fine!" I yelled. I realized I had just cussed at my dad. My hand flew to my mouth in response.

"Hey!" He yelled. "Watch your mouth!" He growled through the bathroom door. "Everyone is out here waiting on you!"

I rolled my eyes, as I wrapped a white towel around my body. I was almost tempted to keep it going, but instead I just took a deep breath. "I'll be out in a minute!" I called out. "I just need to get dressed." I said, calmly.

"Hurry up." My dad growled, as I heard his footsteps walk away from the doorway. He sounded mad, but the word slipped out of my mouth. Not like I could take it back. He needs to quit breathing down my neck, if I'm honest.

I dried myself off, and got dressed. I put the same clothes I had on, which were my Haunter tank top and my Lavender Town sweatpants. I did bring a change of clothes, but I wanted to wait for tomorrow to wear those. The air conditioning was a little cool, so I went into my backpack and popped on my Gastly evolution hoodie. I fixed my high, messy bun and opened the door. The steam escaped into the hall, as I walked out into the living area, where Haunter and Froslass were still sound asleep on the couch. I smiled over at them, and decided to let them sleep.

I opened the door, and walked out as I closed it behind me. I wondered why everyone was meeting in the cafe area, anyway? I knew I was probably about to get an earful from my dad for letting the word 'Damn' slip out of my mouth. I walked down the hall, and headed to the cafe.

Haunter awakened to the door closing, and looked around the dark room. It was quiet, and he looked at Froslass who was sound asleep on the couch. He made one of his weird faces at her, and she woke up and looked at him angrily. He clapped in response.

Froslass shot a Shadow Ball at him to get him to stop, and he did. She then rolled over and went back to sleep on the couch. Haunter got an attitude, and floated over to the window Emethyst and Mallow had been talking in front of previously. He looked out the window, and saw a purple and black fairy looking Pokemon floating up in the sky.

Haunter slipped through the window, and joined the Pokemon in the sky.

Haunter then approached the Pokemon, and made a funny face at it.

"Tapu Fini." The Pokemon said, in it's haunting voice. Almost like it was under water. It stared at Haunter in a confused manner.

"Haunt haunt haunt!" Haunter clapped, as he laughed. Tapu Fini floated away, and Haunter followed it.

I sat in the cafe area with all of my classmates, my dad, and Olivia. Everyone was eating dinner, but me. I wasn't very hungry. My mind was on seeing my mother. I would literally give my soul to Tapu Fini itself just so I could see her one last time.

I scrolled through my phone's photos, looking at old pictures of my mom and I. I fell down the rabbit hole a bit, because I came across the video of my middle school talent show. I had completely forgot my mom had recorded it. I turned the volume down to one, and pressed the play button.

The familiar music to by came on. Looking back, it was no wonder why I had won third place. My voice was pitchy, and my moves weren't tight enough. Yikes. I thought. It was almost embarrassing that I had performed this in front of at least four hundred people.

"What are you watching?" My dad's familiar deep voice said behind me. I jumped, and quickly locked my phone on impulse.

"Nothing." I said, as I glared at his lab coated figure from the corner of my eye. He was really about to get on my nerves. I knew he was only trying to help, but there was a difference between helping and being suffocating.

"Calm down," he said. "You're not hungry?" He asked. He never got onto me about swearing at him, either. I guess he dropped it.

"No." I replied quickly. I slipped my phone into my hoodie pocket, and put my french manicured hands on top of one another. I was praying hard that I would see my mom in the little time I was here.

"FROSLASS!!" I heard Froslass's familiar high pitched cry come from the hall. The hall was in view from the cafe, and I looked up to make sure I heard what I heard.

"What was that?" Lillie asked, fear in her high pitched voice. The class then stopped chattering, and looked towards the hall as well.

Froslass then floated into the cafe, and came straight to me. "Froslass Froslass Froslass!!" She exclaimed hysterically, as she pulled on my arm with her humanoid hands. This caught me off guard, because she has never acted this way. She was pulling with force as well.

"Whoa," I said as I tried to calm her down. "Easy girl, what is it?" I asked. Froslass kept tugging on my arm as if she wanted me to come with her.

"I think she wants you to follow her." My dad said.

I looked up at Froslass's face, and she looked panicked. "Okay, lead the way." I said to her, as I got up. She floated quickly down the hall, to where I could barely keep up with her. She then stopped at the room. Everyone followed behind me like a herd of Tauros.

I opened the door to be met with an empty room. It was then that it dawned on me. Where was Haunter? He was asleep on the couch when I left the room.. and he wasn't with Froslass. Was Froslass trying to tell me he was missing?

"Haunter?!" I called out, as I ran into the room. "Haunter!" I exclaimed in panic. I looked all over the room, and he was nowhere in sight. Not in the bedrooms or the bathroom.

"Haunter's gone!!" I exclaimed to everyone, as I felt a tear in my eye.

"Relax, Emethyst," my dad said. "I'm sure he just wandered off somewhere. You know how he is."

I then looked up at him angrily. I knew this wasn't like Haunter. "Yeah I know how Haunter is, and he wouldn't do this." I spat. "Froslass wouldn't come after me like that, either."

"Calm down, Emethyst." Mallow said. "I'm sure he didn't go far." She reassured.

"You know, now that I think of it, Haunter could have gone out to evolve.." Olivia pondered. "Lycanroc did the same exact thing when he evolved." She said.

I really hoped this wasn't the case because I wanted to be there when he evolved. It was something I had dreamt of since the day I caught Gastly.

However, Haunter did like to disappear in midair, but at the same time, why would Froslass come get me in pure panic like that? It didn't make sense to me. I sighed, for I didn't really know what to do.

Froslass then tugged on my arm as if she were motioning for me to follow her. "Froslass, what is with you?!" I exclaimed, a little angrily. She was beginning to get on my nerves. Ever since I had moved here, my Pokemon have been acting insane.

"Just follow her, Emethyst." My dad said.

I allowed Froslass to lead me to where ever she was trying to lead me to, and she stopped right at the window Mallow and I had talked in front of. She kept pointing outside. "Froslass! Froslass!" She exclaimed. Was she trying to tell me Haunter went out the window, or did she see something else? I didn't understand.

Worried, I looked at Froslass. "Froslass, did Haunter go out of the window?" I asked her, sadness overcoming me.

Froslass nodded her head yes. "Froslass! Froslass!" She exclaimed, happy I now understood. It was then I began to panic. Why would Haunter float off like that? He was difficult to wake up once he went to sleep. What caused him to do this?

"I'm going to look for him." I said, as I walked out of the room.

My dad then stepped in my way. "Emethyst, I'm sorry, but it's late. There's no way I'm going to let you go out at this time of night." He said, sternly.

I began to get angry. There's no way in Pokemon hell that he would hold me up from looking for Haunter. I didn't care at this point. Haunter was like my baby. "Dad, get out of my way," I growled. "If you hold me up, I will run off in the middle of the night and look for him while you're asleep." I said, truthfully. What was the use in lying? I had a window I could climb out of. "What if he's hurt?!" I exclaimed, the anger coming out.

Our eyes locked onto each other's like it was a competition for dominance. However, I wouldn't look away. It was like looking into a mirror almost, if I wore green framed glasses.

"You could cut the tension with a knife." I heard Kiawe say quietly behind me.

"Emethyst.." My dad growled.

"Dad.." I growled back in the same way. "You're either for me, or against me." I said, not taking my eyes off of his. I wasn't losing this battle. I would do anything for Haunter just about, even if I had to go up against my own dad. I didn't care.

"Kukui, let her look for Haunter." Olivia chimed in behind me. I did a little dance inside when she said this. This whole time, she has had nothing but my back.

My dad took his eyes off mine, and looked up at her. "You're crazy!" He exclaimed. "Don't you-"

"Kukui!" Olivia interrupted him. "Stop it. Wouldn't you do the same if one of your Pokemon just went missing out of nowhere? Even if it was late at night?" She asked as she smiled.

My dad then sighed. "Ugh, fine!" He exclaimed a little angrily. "But only for a little bit." He said.

"We'll all help!" Ash exclaimed behind me.

"Count us in too!" The rest of the class exclaimed.

"Thank you guys so much." I said, as I turned around to face them all. The class then ran down the hallway, along with Olivia. Which left me alone with my dad and Froslass.

I then turned around to face him, to see his eyes were still locked on me. I looked back up at him, as I felt tears welling in my eyes. I didn't know what his problem was. It was then that I thought about something. I had snuck out on my first night in Alola to get Froslass out of her Pokeball. What was the difference?

"Aren't you gonna go look for Haunter?" He asked, coldly.

I glared at him. "Let me ask you one question." I said. "Why are you so scared to let me go out and search for Haunter, when on my first night in Alola, I snuck out and you didn't freak out about that?" I asked. "What's the difference?"

My dad went to open his mouth, but nothing came out. He then got a sad look in his eyes.

"What? Meowth got your tongue?" I asked, tilting my head to the side. He had pushed me to my limit now, I wasn't going to let this go.

"Just... Just go look for Haunter." He said, quietly. "I hope you find him safe and sound." He said, calmly, as he walked into his room and closed the door behind him.

Tears welled in my eyes. I was so angry, I couldn't contain myself any longer. Everything hit me all at once again. "YOU KNOW, YOU COULD AT LEAST COME LOOK WITH ME, AND SHOW ME YOU ACTUALLY GIVE A DAMN! SO MUCH FOR NEVER WANTING ME TO FEEL ANYMORE NEGATIVE EMOTIONS!" I yelled through the door. I took off running down the hall, and out the automatic doors. Just when I thought things were getting better, they were only getting worse.
