《Pokémon Sun & Moon: Emethyst's Journey》Chapter 29

I sat in the waiting area of the Pokemon Center, anticipating for any news on Haunter. It had been nearly an hour since Nurse Joy had admitted him. I was beginning to get worried. Ash, My dad, and Froslass surrounded me, and so did the rest of my classmates. I didn't understand what was taking so long. She told me she was only going to examine him and run a few tests.
"What is taking so long?!" I exclaimed, not being able to hold it in anymore, as I looked over at the doors Nurse Joy should come emerging from hopefully any minute now.
"Calm down, Emethyst," my dad said. "These things take time. Just be patient. I'm sure Haunter is fine." He said, trying to comfort me.
I sighed stressfully. "I hope so." I said, as I rested my head in my hand. Froslass was trying her hardest to cheer me up, by hugging me with her humanoid arms. "It's just he's never done that before." I said, still shaken that he would have done such a thing.
"Cheer up, Emethyst. Nurse Joy should be coming out of those doors any moment now." Lillie said. Snowy then came to my feet, and began looking up at me while wagging her fluffy, white six tails.
"Vulpix!" Snowy exclaimed happily. I could tell everyone was trying their hardest to cheer me up, and it meant a lot to me. As much as I tried to hide it; I was pretty heartbroken that my own Pokemon tried to attack me, for what seemed to be barely any reason at all.
I reached down and pet Snowy's familiar soft fur. "Thanks, Snowy." I said.
It was then that I heard the doors open, and saw Nurse Joy emerge from the back with her Blissey. "Emethyst?" She called out. I immediately ran over to her, my dad and the others following behind me. I noticed Haunter wasn't with her. This caused me to panic a little.
"Yes, where's Haunter?!" I exclaimed, as looked around and noticed he wasn't anywhere in sight.
Nurse Joy then smiled. "No worries, he's just fine. I'm just running one more test on him." She said, smiling. "He's quite the character though. Poor Comfey is wore out." She chuckled, as she put her hands on her hips.

I was now relieved. "Oh, thank you so much Nurse Joy." I said. "What test are you running on him?" I asked, curiously.
"An evolution test." She said, simply. "Everything else I tested him for came back negative. This is one test I haven't ran on him yet. It should be finished soon." She said, sweetly. "You can go back and see him in a few if you would like. The test should be about done, actually." She said, as she checked the time over the desk.
I was nervous about seeing him. I didn't know if he was going to try and attack me again. "Any idea why he attacked me?" I asked, a bit sadly.
Nurse Joy still continued to smile. "Actually Emethyst, Pokemon attacking their trainers isn't as uncommon as you think. This is most common when a Pokemon gets ready to evolve, one of the reasons why I'm running an Evolution test. In fact, it should be done." She said, sweetly. "You all can come back." She said, as she motioned for us to follow her.
We followed her through the doors, and a little ways down the hall, to the third room on the right. There, I saw Haunter through the glass. He had a few things hooked up to him, and he was floating around and making weird faces at Nurse Joy's Comfey. This made me chuckle. He appeared to be back to his normal self. He then turned around and saw me, and he responded with a sad look on his face.
"Aw, Haunter." I said, as I was sure I returned his look. I hated seeing him like that. Nurse Joy then went inside the room, and unhooked all of the things from him. She then went over to the monitor, and checked a few things on it.
"Just as I suspected." I overheard Nurse Joy say. She then turned towards the glass. "You all can come in now!" She called out, and waved.
I quickly rushed into the room. "Haunter!" I exclaimed. "How are you feeling, boy?" I asked him. He responded with one of his many funny faces, and hugged me with his long, pointy hands afterwards. I hugged his gaseous body back. "I assume this is your way of saying sorry?" I asked him.

Haunter nodded happily. I smiled at him. "It's okay, buddy." I said. I was just happy he was back to his old self.
"Well Emethyst, I don't know if you consider this good news," Nurse Joy began. "But, expect Gengar within the next month or so!" She exclaimed happily. "Haunter passed his evolution test!"
"See, I told you, Emethyst!" Olivia exclaimed happily.
I stared at Nurse Joy in disbelief. I felt like I was at the doctor's office, and the doctor just told me I was pregnant. "Wait, what?" I said, hardly believing it.
"That's so awesome!" I heard Ash exclaim. Everyone else began chattering as well, talking about how cool it would be. I felt flattered.
However, I didn't know how to feel. It was a little bittersweet. I have dreamt for what felt like forever of the day that Haunter evolved into Gengar, but at the same time, this made me kind of sad. I would miss him as a Haunter, only because we have so many memories together.
"Haunter is at his max level right now," Nurse Joy explained. "If you happen to train with him, and he levels up, the chances of him evolving on the spot are very high." She explained. "However, I have noticed something with your Haunter that I find kind of interesting." She said.
I looked over at her. "Which is?" I asked.
"Normally, the Haunters I see are about five foot three, and actually begin to shrink a little before they evolve." She explained. "However, your Haunter measures out to be five foot seven, and he hasn't appeared to have shrank at all." She said.
I felt my cheeks heat up. "Wow... So Haunter is above average.." I said, hesitantly. "That's amazing, buddy!" I exclaimed, as I hugged his gaseous body. Haunter then laughed in his normal way.
"That's not all," Nurse Joy added. "But when he does evolve, he will probably be an above average Gengar. I estimate his height to be around five foot five." She said, as she smiled.
"Wait!" My dad exclaimed. "Five foot five?!?!" He then made a weird face.
"Yes." Nurse Joy said happily. "He could be even bigger than that." She mentioned. "It's just an estimate." She said.
"WHAT?!" Rotom Dex exclaimed. "THE LARGEST GENGAR I HAVE ON FILE IS FOUR FOOT ELEVEN! DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT COMPUTE!" Rotom Dex squealed. "Emethyst! As soon as he evolves, can I please enter his data?!" Rotom Dex begged as he floated over to me.
I giggled a little. "Of course, Rotom." I said, happily. Wow. I thought to myself. I didn't expect this...
"That's so incredible!" Sophecles exclaimed. "I'd love to gather his data as well! I still want to gather information about non electric types." He said.
"Knock yourself out." I said, happily.
"Okay, all!" Nurse Joy exclaimed. "Haunter is free to go!" She said. "Come back soon!"
All of us walked out of the room, and walked back out into the Pokemon Center's cafe area. Haunter floated beside me. Now that I actually paid attention, I did notice Haunter was a bit larger than before. "Oh, Haunter! You're so amazing!" I exclaimed. I couldn't believe this.
"Well, how do you feel now, Emethyst?" My dad asked, as he put his hand on my shoulder. "You finally get your dream!" He exclaimed.
I giggled a little. "I feel like I've won the ghost type lottery." I joked. "I can't believe it. I always knew Haunter was a bit bigger than others I've seen, though. I just never really batted an eye at it." I said.
"That's so amazing, Emethyst! We're battling when he evolves!" Ash exclaimed, as he raised a fist.
"I want to battle you, too!" Kiawe chimed in.
I shrugged. "Hey, who said anything about when he evolves? I'll take you all on right now." I said, as I put my tongue out jokingly. I still couldn't believe this.
"Alright all, before any battles go on, let's have lunch first!" My dad exclaimed.
