《Handcuffed to My Enemy》24: In the Moment.

Cassie's POV:

I rubbed my eyes and tried to keep them open to stay in this moment.

He was lying down next to me on my bed, with his arm draped across me. He was facing towards me and his features were all squished because of him sleeping. The tv was playing The Office quietly in the background and I just smiled as I watching him sleep. He would slightly snore every now and then pull me closer as he dreamed about something.

I turned my head to look up at the ceiling and reflected on what our lives were like. How did I ever come this far with Jake? How have we lived through all these crazy things and seemed to just get closer with time? He felt like the only person I could trust. I looked back to him and couldn't help but chuckle as he started to drool a little bit as he fell into a deeper sleep.

I thought back to what had happened only a few short days ago.

***a few short days ago (:P)***

"Jake where are you?" I said into the phone, sighing in annoyance. He had told me that tonight would be special, since it was the first time that we would be able to go on an actual date since the hospital. We had seen each other and spent time together, but hadn't had a proper date for weeks. I sighed and tapped my foot as I sat on my porch waiting. I heard a car engine approach my house and got up as I recognized the crappy car as his.

He quickly opened the door and ended up falling out of his car as he tried to reach my side before I could open the door. He breathed heavily and opened the door, bowing and signaling for me to enter the car. I couldn't help but giggle at his goofy face and found myself forgetting I was even mad at him in the first place. He smiled back and ran over to the driver's seat and we were off before I even knew it.

"Sooo... Where are we going?" I asked as I turned the radio up. He just smirked and kept driving. I huffed and crossed my arms, pretending to be annoyed but bursting out laughing before I could even hold my pose for minute.

He stopped the car and I looked around, recognizing the school parking lot and wondering what was going on. He started leading me to the forest and I knew we were going to our old hiding spot. I was kind of bummed to be honest, I had worn a dress and makeup, not thinking that our date would just be in the forest on some grass. As we walked to the clearing, I gasped at what was in front of me.

Twinkle lights were draped all around the trees and shined brightly against the darkness of the night. There were rose petals spread all along the ground. In the middle, there was a picnic blanket that was covered in flowers and candles and food. I covered my mouth and looked over at Jake. He was smiling slightly, but also seemed nervous.

"I love it." I gushed, reassuring him that I was overjoyed by what he had done.

"No one's ever done anything like this for me." I wrapped my arms around him and gently kissed him on the lips. I let go and walked over to the blanket, holding on to his hand and leading him with me. He pulled on my hand, causing me to turn to face him. He smiled and bit down on his lip, something he would always do when he was concentrating on something.

"Look, can I tell you something? And can you please not interrupt me until I'm done?" I scrunched up my eyebrows, confused by his request but nodding anyway. I was nervous as he opened his mouth. He took a deep breath and started.

"Cassie, you mean the world to me. No, fuck that you ARE my world. I love you so much and you mean so much to me. Whenever I see you, my heart stops for a second, which is probably concerning. You have changed my life, and it all started with those dumbass handcuffs. I finally realized that you were the only one for me, and if I didn't do something fast, you would be gone. I need you in my life, and I honestly don't know what I would do without you. I want to be here for you and protect you, always. I want you to be in my life forever Cassie." He took both of my hands in his and started to kneel down. He reached for something in his pocket and help up a little black velvet box. I gasped as I finally realized what he was doing. I shook my head, not wanting him to go through with this. I loved him with everything in me, but we were too young, and it just wouldn't last.

"Will you marry me?" He opened the box and revealed...

A necklace. With the word someday printed in cursive.

"Someday?" I laughed and said the only answer I could dream of.

"Yes."
