《Regret ▻ The Originals [2]》28

At the Mikaelson Compound, Rebekah was pacing around the upper hallways of the compound while she talked on the phone with Ophelia, who was standing in the woods of the bayou trying to stay in the spot that seemed to get the most service, "What the hell do you mean, he's gone?" Ophelia asked Rebekah in disbelief.
"Exactly that. The coffin's empty, and he is nowhere to be found. If I had to guess, I'd say he's planning a long list of cruel and unusual punishments for his treacherous siblings," She explained to Ophelia before sighing dramatically, "Given that we have an ancient witch to kill, I was hoping you might try and reason with him. Ideally, before he goes ballistic."
"Ah, I see," Ophelia sarcastically replied, "but what exactly am I supposed to say to him?"
"Look, anything is better than nothing, as long as it comes from you," Rebekah told her, causing Ophelia to frown in confusion, "You're the only person he'll listen to."
"As you said, Rebekah, he's gone ballistic. And to top it all off, he's furious because the people he loves most literally stabbed him in the heart. That is his worst fear come true. What makes you think he'll listen to anyone, least of all me?" Ophelia explained to Rebekah, who became even more desperate for Ophelia's help.
"Please, Ophelia, isn't it clear by now?" Rebekah asked Ophelia, who had no idea what she was talking about, "He's utterly in love with you. He never stopped." She paused, causing Ophelia to sigh, "Will you help us, or not?"
Ophelia took a deep breath, balling her hand tightly into a fist, "Fine. I'll be there soon," She told Rebekah hesitantly before hanging up.
________
After coming to the decision that she needed to leave to help stop Klaus, Ophelia ended up telling Hayley and Jackson, who were hesitant to let her go. While Hayley went to help pack Hope up, Ophelia was left alone with Jackson. She instructed him to leave with Hayley and Hope and that she would catch up to them, soon thereafter.
"Ophelia--" Jackson began to argue with Ophelia, who quickly cut him off.
"Jack, I have to," Ophelia argued back, letting out a large sigh, "I promise you that I'll be back, alright? But I need to help stop Klaus before he gets here and kills you and the rest of the pack," She paused, taking a step toward Jackson as she cupped his face with her hands, "Listen to me, Jack. I love you. And I'm doing this to protect you and the pack, not because I choose the Mikaelson. As I said before, I choose you and the pack, not them."
"I love you, too," Jackson responded, leaning forward to kiss Ophelia.
Ophelia kissed Jackson for a brief moment before pulling away, sending him a small smile, "Be careful," Jackson warned Ophelia, who nodded her head in agreement.
"Always am," She replied, giving him a quick kiss on the quick before stepping back. Within seconds, she had sped away, off to the compound to help stop Klaus, who was on the run and hellbent on getting revenge.
___
That afternoon, after making their plan, Ophelia and Rebekah held hands as they the illusion spell while Freya, the Hope decoy, and Dahlia were still talking downstairs in the courtyard, "Sineste exa vana vintante com. Sineste exa vana vintante com." The duo chanted together, "Sineste exa vana vintante com. Sineste exa vana.--"

Suddenly, a dark figure swooped across the doorway, but because Rebekah and Ophelia's eyes were closed, they didn't notice it, "Sineste exa--"
Ophelia stopped chanting, sensing someone else in the room with her and Rebekah. Rebekah soon stopped chanting but before either of them could react further, they spotted a panting and exhausted-looking Marcel, who was holding two pairs of cursed shackles. As she looked at him, it was clear to Ophelia that he was compelled by Klaus, though he tried his best to resist, "Marcel?" Rebekah called out in concern.
"I'm sorry." He apologized, vamp-speeding toward Ophelia before snapping her neck.
Meanwhile later, Ophelia woke to find herself and Rebekah wearing the cursed shackles, "Get up," Marcel demanded, causing Ophelia to roll her eyes before standing up without fighting back.
Soon enough, Marcel dragged a struggling Ophelia and Rebekah into the room with him. Rebekah and Ophelia glared at Klaus, clearly feeling betrayed and furious when they saw him standing alongside Dahlia with Elijah and Cami laying on the ground unconscious.
"Have you lost your mind?" Ophelia asked Klaus in disbelief, her eyes wide in shock.
"My mind is quite clear, actually," Klaus responded, a small sadistic smile on his face, "I just decided to purge it of treacherous barnacles."
"You bastard!" Rebekah growled, lunging for Klaus.
Marcel obviously hated that he was forced to do Klaus' bidding, but was powerless against his compulsion as he held Ophelia and Rebekah back, "How could you?" She asked Klaus, her eyes welled with tears.
"Actually, it was rather simple, love," Klaus responded in a calm tone, "I just recalled what Elijah did to me and reciprocated ten-fold. Be careful, or I'll apply the same equation to Rebekah."
"What about me, huh?" Ophelia growled, lunging for Klaus once more before Marcel pulled her back, "You going to kill me? 'Cause that's the only way I'll ever do what you say."
Marcel continued to hold both Ophelia and Rebekah back, and Dahlia seemed amused by the strife to which she beared witness between Ophelia and Klaus. For once, it had seemed like Ophelia had lost all hope in Klaus. Little did they know.
Ophelia was walking through the French Quarter, on her way to the compound to meet with Elijah, Rebekah, and Freya. Suddenly, a hand grabbed her by the arm and sped her into the alley, slamming her against the brick wall.
Just as she was about to fight back, she saw that it was Klaus, causing her eyes to widen in shock, "Klaus!" She gasped loudly, just before roughly pushing him away.
"No time for chit-chat, love," Klaus replied in a calm tone, "Dahlia will be searching for me at any second."
"You're working with Dahlia?" Ophelia asked Klaus in disbelief, her eyes filled with betrayal.
"It's a trick," Klaus informed her, causing Ophelia's mouth to gape open in shock, "I have a plan, but you mustn't tell anyone. It must go entirely my way and I need your help in doing so."
"What's the plan?" Ophelia asked Klaus curiously, causing Klaus to smile slightly, clearly finding it comforting that Ophelia easily trusted him, not questioning his actions as she supported him no matter what he did, unlike the rest of his family.
"Marcellus, keep Rebekah here. If she tries to leave? Well, You do like life as a mortal," Klaus instructed Marcel, a sadistic look on his face, "You can punish her by taking that life away."
Klaus stepped forward, grabbing ahold of Ophelia, "And Ophelia, love, you will be coming me," He ordered, starting to walk away with Ophelia when Marcel stopped him.

"Go to hell!" Marcel shouted at Klaus furiously.
Klaus turned around to face him, "If by Hell, you mean somewhere you are betrayed by those you hold most dear, then it's from Hell I've just come! I didn't much care for it," he shouted him before staring into Marcel's eyes and compelling him for the second time that day, "Do as you're told. There's a good lad."
Dahlia stepped over Elijah's body on her way to join Klaus and Ophelia, "We have Ophelia now, but the child's magic is still cloaked. I shall need your blood to track her." Dahlia instructed Klaus.
"No, Nik, don't," Rebekah begged Klaus in a pleading tone, struggling to get out of Marcel's grip.
Dahlia held out her hand, and Klaus smirked at Rebekah for a moment before he bit into his hand and allowed his blood drip into it. Rebekah looked absolutely appalled by Klaus' behavior as Marcel dragged her upstairs and away from her brother, "Ophelia, you have to save her, please save her," Rebekah begged Ophelia, who gave her a look that told her that that was what she was going to do.
____
After hearing screaming outside, Hayley, Jackson, and some other wolves ran to see what had happened, only to find Klaus, who had ripped the wolves' throat out with his own fingernails. Ophelia stood next to him, unable to fight back with the magical shackles she was forced to wear. Hayley had a horrified look on her face at sight of Klaus betraying Ophelia, of all people, which only made Klaus more satisfied, "Good evening, Crescents. It will come as no surprise to learn that things will not be ending well for you." Klaus greeted the pack, walking closer to the group while gesturing to Ophelia, who was forced to follow, "Just as it did with your Queen here."
Jackson, looking anxious and feeling the need to help Ophelia, took a step forward before beginning to speak to Hayley, "Go back inside. Get Hope and Mary out of here." He demanded an stern tone.
Hayley seemed hesitant as she looked over at Ophelia, "I can help you!" She argued with Jackson.
"I'll be right behind you. So will Ophelia," Jackson demanded once more, causing Klaus to smirk at the fact that Jackson really thought he would be able to get his hands on Ophelia.
Hayley frowned in concern, "Jackson." She tried to convince him to let her stay, but Jackson cut her off once more.
"Just get Hope, and run." Jackson insisted once more.
Hayley looked reluctant to leave him and Ophelia behind, but after a moment, she vamp-sped away. Jackson gulped nervously before addressing the other wolves, who had now surrounded Klaus as he held onto the chain part of Ophelia's shackles to stop her from running away.
"Let's take him!" Jackson shouted out, which caused Ophelia to feel uneasy, knowing that the werewolves had signed their death sentence in order to save Ophelia, who honestly didn't even need saving.
As the fight began, Ophelia was finally let go of by Klaus. While Klaus was distracted, Jackson turned to Ophelia, "Run! Go find, Hope and Hayley," He demanded and Ophelia was hesitant.
"I'll be back, I give you my word," Ophelia promised him, clearly not wanting to leave him, but she also didn't want Dahlia, who was nearby, to get ahold of Hope.
After speeding off, Ophelia finally ran into Hayley, "Hayley!" She exclaimed, her eyes wide, "Where's Hope?"
"With Mary," Hayley informed Ophelia before looking down at the shackles stopping Ophelia from using both her witch and werewolf powers, "Here, let me!"
Just as Hayley was about to rip the shackles off Ophelia, Ophelia stepped back, "No, you can't," She argued, causing Hayley to frown in confusion, "Just trust me. We need to help Jackson before Klaus kills him, but I can't take these off."
Hesitant, Hayley finally nodded before vamp-speeding in the direction of where Klaus was fighting Jackson. Hayley sped toward them and punched Klaus so hard he was spun in a circle.
Klaus and Hayley started fighting each other, and when Jackson joined in to help her, they got the upper hand on him and knocked the original hybrid flat on his back on the ground. When they started to kick him, Klaus threw them so hard that they were both thrown several yards away.
Before they could return to fighting, Dahlia arrived, grabbing Ophelia, who was hiding behind the trees, along with her as she walked to stand beside Klaus, "Enough," She told the group sternly as she ripped the shackles off of Ophelia.
Hayley stared at Klaus, Ophelia, and Dahlia together before she realized what was going on, "Why are you with them, Ophelia?" Hayley asked Ophelia concerned.
"I'm not apart of this, I swear." Ophelia tried to tell Hayley, "I didn't know he was going to come for you. He kidnapped me against my will. I only knew of the plan he had for Rebekah and Elijah."
Hayley glared at Ophelia, yet she somehow believed that it wasn't her fault. Instead of blaming her for the betrayal, she turned to Klaus, glaring at him, "Why is Dahlia with you, Klaus?" She asked Klaus in shock.
"Unlike some, he's doing what is best for his daughter," Dahlia responded in a calm tone.
"I'm gonna skin you alive!" Hayley growled at Dahlia, lunging for her.
But when Dahlia raised her arms and closed her eyes, Hayley's bones started to snap, and she was forced to fall onto the ground. After a moment, Jackson was affected by the spell as well, along with all of the other werewolves.
"What are you doing?" Ophelia shouted in disbelief, her eyes wide.
When Klaus didn't respond to Ophelia's question, Hayley looked at him, horrified, "What are you doing to us?"
"Oh, this? This was my idea," Klaus informed Hayley confidently as he walked closer to her, "Stealing from Marcel the Crescent curse he once used on your pack. Dahlia was all too happy to make the necessary adjustments to accommodate your hybrid nature," He paused, crouching down in front of Hayley, whose bones were snapping, and whose fangs were coming out involuntarily, just like the rest of the wolves, "Now, you will be trapped in wolf form, safe for the full moon, leaving you very little time to cause any further mischief."
Ophelia frowned, confused as to why the same wasn't happening to her. It should have. She was linked to Jackson by marriage, which meant she should have been affected as well. Not even Dahlia's magic could stop that.
Ophelia quietly gasped, her eyes widening in realization as she remembered what Freya had told her just days ago when she was drinking. She didn't understand at first, but at that moment, all made sense. Her eyes filled with tears as she placed a hand over her stomach.
"And, because of your blood relation to Ophelia, who is linked to her pack by the unification ritual, you will share the pack's fate, just as Ophelia will. But that, I'm afraid, will be considered collateral damage," Klaus paused, turning toward Ophelia, who showed no effects toward the Crescent Curse, "Or not."
Hayley and Jackson screamed in pain as their bones snapped painfully, "Protect Hope, I'm begging you," Hayley begged Ophelia, who cried as she nodded her head in response, "You need to go find he--Ah!"
"I will," Ophelia promised her and before Klaus could react, Ophelia sped away, in search of Hope.
Finally, after about an hour of tacking, Ophelia found Mary's truck, which had been abandoned on the road with the door open after she was forced into her wolf form.
When Ophelia looked inside the backseat of the truck, he found Hope sitting calmly and smiled, "Hey," She greeted the infant girl, "Aunt Ophelia's here. It's gonna be okay, I promise."
Hearing footsteps, Ophelia turned her head to see Klaus, which caused her to immediately look away from him and back at Hope, "How are you not affected?" Klaus questioned Ophelia concerned, "Dahlia told me it was impossible to have that happen. I tried to have it happen, but she couldn't. How is that you're here, unaffected if Dahlia wasn't the one to save you?"
"Go to hell," Ophelia growled at Klaus, causing the male hybrid to look away from her, clearly hurt even though he expected it from her after what he did, "To think I actually trusted that you'd do the right thing after telling me of your plan," She paused, letting out a large scoff, "But of course, you left out the part about you placing the Crescent Curse on my pack, knowing that if I knew, I wouldn't help you. And you knew about the fact that it would have happened to me too, yet you still did it."
"Ophelia--" Klaus started, but was cut off as Dahlia appeared behind them.
"And there they are."
Klaus and Ophelia froze for a moment, sharing a glance with each other. Finally, they turned to face Dahlia, Klaus standing protectively in front of both Ophelia and Hope.
Clearly realizing that she may have come on too strong, Dahlia tried to backpedal, "Such a beautiful child and young woman standing right before my eyes."
"I want to thank you for your hand in procuring them for me," Dahlia told Klaus with a small smile on her face, "It must not have been easy, betraying your family," She paused, gesturing toward Ophelia, "Betraying the women you love, knowing that she didn't want to join me."
"I will not see my daughter nor Ophelia handed over like the spoils of some war," Klaus told Dahlia, causing the woman to frown in concern, "To that end, I remind you of your promise; You will protect and mentor Hope and Ophelia, drawing from them only what power you require to keep her safe."
"I will bond them to me first," Dahlia informed Klaus, walking closer to him, "Once I can channel their power, I will be able to keep them safe from all harm; Always under my protection."
"I think not," Klaus responded, causing Ophelia to frown as she listened in to the conversation from the sidelines. She knew what Klaus was up to, but she was confused as to how he was going to allow it to fall through.
Dahlia looked at Klaus, clearly alarmed by this reaction, "You offered an alliance that would benefit my daughter and Ophelia, and now you wish to link to them, even though you yourself still suffer from that sleep spell?" Klaus questioned Dahlia in confusion, "I will not lose either of them to that affliction."
Dahlia sighed and struggled to remain patient in order to get Hope and Ophelia with the least amount of resistance, "I will use their power to free myself, as I said!"
"And if you fail? Or if Hope and Ophelia are not strong enough?" he questioned, looking back at Hope, who was still watching them calmly and Ophelia, who looked deeply concerned, "She is, after all, but a child. And of course, Ophelia, she may be a hybrid of three different species, but every creature on this earth has a limit to their power. I will not condemn either of them to your fate, not when there is so obvious an alternative," He paused dramatically, causing Ophelia to become even more concerned, "If you require power to be immortal without the need to sleep for centuries, then why not channel one who already has eternal life?"
Dahlia seemed conflicted by his offer, but Klaus smiled and continued on, "Bond yourself to me, the immortal hybrid," He proposed, "Once your sleep spell is broken, then, and only then, may you link yourself to Hope and Ophelia."
Ophelia's eyes widened in shock, clearly shocked by Klaus' proposition.

8 158Conquest Of Mortem
*NOTE* This novel is a war of attrition. To say anything less is a disservice to its demand. While comparable to other such works as Ulysses or Moby Dick, each sentence in Conquest is an enemy to be tackled. Not in the ways of difficulty but in absurd density that wishes nothing more than to destroy what patience you may have. Do not tackle chapters as you would ordinary chapters in an ordinary book. Tackle each chapter as a book unto itself. A foe to be vanquished, a period of life to leave behind. Seek to be master of this work. Seek to overcome. For in its design is the willpower, and the perseverance, and the strength of someone who sought meaning in struggle. As I discovered these in times of ultimate desperation, so I hope for you to discover these things. This novel is a love letter to your trials. May you overcome them. May you master them. May you become conquerer.- SeedSagaA literary epic for logophiles, philosophers, and poets alike. A journey into zeitgeist, the impact of media on culture, and the endurance of morality against an onslaught of hatred. These vague descriptions do little to compact Conquest's density into a bite-size summary. They do however relate the basest themes found within. A plot, if such can be surmised, is strung thinly across multiple perspectives, weaving together these concepts into a seemingly distorted tapestry of indecipherable events. Inspired by early 20th century modernism, Conquest will challenge the reader, and provide critique on the medium upon which all great stories are derived. Further interpretation is up to you now; an explorer among a sea of words. Venture on and discover what lies ahead, in...CONQUEST OF MORTEM
