Friday, the finest day of the week. Kit accomplishes her morning routine which consists of waking up at 5:30, washing her face, changing clothes, and leaving for work at precisely 5:55; not forgetting to grab a banana on her way out so she could tell herself she had breakfast.

Kit doesn't enjoy starting her work days so early, but it is a must. Recently, she received a promotion at her small office job, putting her in charge of a company wide project. Though it is unconfirmed, she believes her promotion is partly due to her coming off as responsible and dependable to her superiors, encouraging her to continue the same behavior.

It's a privilege to have such a short commute to work, allowing her to arrive around 6:15. Her heels click on the sidewalk as she leisurely strolls down the early morning road, the cold hair nipping gently at her skin. Empty, quiet, dark— peaceful.

Everyday she passes by the same buildings, homes, and the same animal shelter. She always walks on the sidewalk opposite the shelter because of the insistent animal noises made from within, regardless of the time.

Kit does not dislike animals, she simply dislikes when they disturb her peaceful mornings.

There is chatter among the employees and it seems to be getting louder the closer Kit gets to her desk. The center of all the blather sits in her desk chair and is strumming up non-work related conversations with fellow coworkers.

The head of the person raises to meet Kit's eyes with a smile. "Good morning Miss." She is greeted by her coworker who stands from her chair.

"Morning, Mr. Jeon." Jeon Jungkook, though they differ in age, his gregarious, friendly attitude and years of working together allowed them to develop a close friendship extending outside of their workplace. "I see you're just as lively as ever." Kit responds without meeting his eyes as she sits to examine the paperwork on her desk. In her peripheral vision, she is able to see Jungkook's shoes still standing near her, unmoving.

Kit's eyes look up to meet his, ready to question why he isn't getting to work, when she notices his expression. Jungkook's usual mischievous smile had fallen as his bottom lip sticks out in a pout. His head hung low and shoulders sagged as he fiddled with decorative rings on his fingers. She was instantly able to notice something was wrong.

"Come with me." Kit softly commands, subtly tapping his arm and walking away. Jungkook follows after her as they walk into an empty stairway, the door loudly slamming shut behind them, leaving them in a silent vacuum. "Talk to me Kook, are you ok?"

He releases a sigh and takes a step towards her as his arms raise to gently hold her's, hands resting under her elbows. "What about you? You must be incredibly stressed lately with the project you got assigned a few weeks ago and all that has happened with it." He pauses to study her face, taking a slow breath. "I haven't seen your smile in ages."

"Aww Kookie." Kit rubs the sides of his arms in an up and down motion in an attempt to sooth him. "I'm sorry I made you worry about me like that, here:" She pulls back from him and presents a genuine smile, squeezing his shoulders. "Please know that being friends with such a considerate and loveable coworker is enough to make me smile everyday. I'll be sure to relax more often, for you."

Jungkook smiles back at her but counters her last comment. "Don't do it for me, do it for yourself." Kit exhales a giggle as Jungkook's mouth turns into an "O" shape. "Oh! Today during lunch, make sure you get to the café on time. I have some big news to share and it's going to take up every minute we have available."

"I'll be sure to check the time regularly then." They share a light hug before walking out of the stairwell and to their desks to work. Kit sits in her desk chair and rolls her shoulders back, stretching to prepare for her busy morning.

Lunch time rolled around and Kit left her desk a few minutes early to find Jungkook. As Kit walks to his department's office, she passes a small group of giggling girls. They're relatively new to the company and seem to have created a kinship through that.

Passing by so closely, Kit catches a few words from one of the girls. "Aww, your kitty is so adorable, Jennie. I'm so lonely, maybe I should get a pet too." The line lingers in her mind as she reaches Jungkook's desk.

Kit notices him concentrating on his computer with furrowed brows and approaches him slowly. Seeing as he doesn't seem to notice her, she takes a seat at the empty desk next to him to wait. A few moments pass before he glances up and realizes her presence. As soon as he does though, his face immediately brightens.

"Ok!" He starts to get up but immediately plops back down into his chair. "Wait— let me finish reading this and I'll meet you on the way out." Kit lets out a hum of agreement as she stands and begins slowly walking to the elevators.

10 minutes have passed since Kit ordered her drink and sat in the café as the door swung open, followed by light jingling. Jungkook appears at her table as she watches him catch his breath.

"And you told me not to be late?" A smirk crosses over her face as Jungkook looks up at her.

"Do you know *cough* how difficult it is to run in polyester slacks and loafers?" His strained breaths translated the answer: very difficult. Kit smiles in response and offers to buy his drink, to which he graciously accepts.

Returning to the table with both of their drinks, Kit initiates a conversation. "So, what is this big news you have for me? Gasp! Don't tell me my little Kookie finally got a girlfriend?" She covers her mouth, fake gasping.

"Ha! Yeah right, you know you're the only girl for me, Kit Kat." A huge grin spreads across his face and he winks at her. She scrunches her nose at his disgustingly flirty behavior.

"God. Stop calling me that awful nickname."

A laugh escapes him as he reminisces. "Nope! It allows me to remember the beautiful event which led to us becoming close friends."

"It was not beautiful, it was incredibly embarrassing." Kit lowers her head into her hands, looking at the table as she too remembers the scene.

"Well maybe if you looked where you were going, you wouldn't have bumped into me, causing an entire party's worth of kit kats to spill out of your bag at work." Jungkook playfully makes fun of her as her head shoots up and she glares at him.

"Just tell me what you were so excited about, Kook."

Jungkook excitedly sits up to deliver the news. "Ok. Ok. I was walking home like usual yesterday. I took the same path as always when we split up at the corner, nothing unusual. But I heard this sound coming from an alleyway nearby. so I-"

"You went towards the sound." Kit interrupts him

"Yes I did, and I'm glad I did! When I went into the alley, I found a cute small dog rustling around in the garbage." A smile graces his face as he recalls the moment. "He was so tiny and friendly so of course I took him home!"

"Of course you did."

"I managed to clean him up with a bath and his fur which looked gray was actually white! He has very soft and curly fur with big beautiful dark eyes. He is the most adorable and sweetest animal ever." Jungkook takes out his phone to show off his lock screen which had been changed to a picture with said dog.

"Oh my god Kookie, that is the cutest puppy ever! What's her name?"

"It's a him, and his name is Jimin! Minnie for short." He squeals.

"That is absolutely adorable." The two spent the rest of their lunch giggling about Jungkook's new dog, proposing a hangout session for Kit to meet him.

The moment they got back to work, Kit was swarmed by questions from people working on the project with her. Jungkook swiftly bids her adieu as he escapes the crowd. She answers all that she could and manages to make it back to her office space, which was completely empty except for one person, her supervisor.

A tight smile spreads across her face as she approaches him. "Good afternoon, sir, what may I help you with?"

"Hello Ms. L/N, there has been a change in schedule and I am going to need to push the project date forward to accommodate." Seokjin, her boss, hadn't worked here for much longer than her but diligently worked his way to where he is now. It's hard not to respect him.

"Of course, may I ask how much time?" Kit inquires.

"A week." He replies curtly.

"You're wanting it a week early?" She confirms, relieved that that's all he is asking of her.

"No, I expect the project to be finished, revised, and placed on my desk a week from Monday. You may get it to me anytime before you leave so I can look it over when I get in on Tuesday."

Flabbergasted, Kit is only able to mutter out a quick "Yes, sir." before he disappears out of the office. She slowly hobbles over to her desk and collapses into her chair. Thinking out loud, she sighs. "So, a project I was assigned to lead four weeks ago, a project that I am currently behind on due to careless mistakes made by trainees, is now expected to be completed and revised to perfection in just over a week. This is unbelibubble."

Kit is barely able to make it through the rest of the day when 5 o'clock comes around. Jungkook left an hour early to attend to his dog, so she headed home alone.

Walking down the streets, she keeps her gaze downturned on the sidewalk below her as she replays the events of the day through her head. Her mind wanders to the girls in the hallway.

"I'm so lonely, maybe I should get a pet too." The sentence replays on loop in her head. Realization dawns on her as she recognizes how bland her life is, not having anyone in her life other than her work friend Jungkook.

Kit's thoughts are soon interrupted by loud barking, she looks up and notices she is passing by the animal shelter again. Her mind drifts back as she recalls how happy both Jungkook and Jennie looked when they got a pet.

Slowly, her legs make a U-turn to the crosswalk as she makes her way to the animal shelter.

"A little bit of change couldn't hurt."
