《For Only A Moment (Student/Teacher)》Thirteen

Christmas was finally here. I woke up like normal and got ready for the day by taking a shower.

After that I met my mom in the kitchen where we ate breakfast. Next we headed to the living room where we exchanged the gifts we got for each other. It was the same every year. Mom sat down on the chair while I took the couch.

"Who goes first?" Mom asked.

"I don't remember who went first last year." I told her honestly.

"I wrote it down, like always." She smiled and got up, leaving the room. She came back with a notebook. "Last year it was you."

I got up as she sat down and grabbed the gift I got for her, handed it to her, then sat back down on the couch.

"What is it?" She asked.

"Open it." I laughed.

"Why don't you just tell me?" She asked, hoping I would tell her.

"I won't. Never have and never will. It's a surprise."

"I didn't raise you right." She joked as she started ripping through the wrapping paper.

"You raised me fine." I laughed.

"Desiree, wow. How could you afford this? It's beautiful. I love it. How did you know I wanted this?"

"I don't have and shouldn't have to answer the first question." I gave her a knowing look, and she nodded. "Second I saw you looking at it when we went to the mall a few months back."

"Thank you so much." She got up and came over to the couch, picked me up and hugged me tight. She pulled back smiling. On her hand was the charm bracket I bought her.

"You're welcome. Now all you need is charms."

"I'm sure you'll have that taken care of as time goes on." She laughed.

"Yeah, maybe."

"Open mine now." She handed me a box, then sat down. Slowly I started to open it, knowing she would explode. "C'mon now! Hurry up!" She laughed. I smiled and torn the wrapping paper off. "Open, open, open." She chanted. I pulled the top off the box and was face to face, well face to fabric, with a really pretty dress. "I bought that for your graduation." She smiled.

I pulled it out of the box, to get a better look at it. It was black and purple, and prettier than I originally thought. "Thanks." I stood up and gave my mom a hug.

"You're welcome. I saw it and instantly thought of you."

"Thank you."

"Now go put it away in your closet. Don't touch it until graduation."

I laughed. "Yeah, yeah." Then left the room.

Later on in the day we got into the car and headed to Mr. Fullers' house.

"Be good." Mom told me.

"I always am." I said looking at her confused.

"Be good. Maybe he'll ask you out if you behave."

"Mom!" I whined. "He will not."

"Yes he will. How can he not."

"He's gay."

"And I'm the queen of England." She rolled her eyes.

I must admit even I didn't know if he was truly gay, or if he was bisexual. He tried to kiss me twice, and I remember every minute of it. After graduation I plan to tell him how I feel.

We pulled up the driveway. "We're here." She said.

"I've been here a million times, I know where we are." I said making her laugh.

"Only because your lover lives here." I ignored her and got out of the car. She followers quickly behind me. We got to the front door, she reached to knock, while I reached for the door knob. "Desiree, don't you dare. That's impolite." Again I ignored her, turned the door knob, opened the door and walked inside the house. Making my mom sigh from behind me.

"We're here" I yelled throughout the house after I took my shoes off.

"Mommy!" I heard Teddy yell, followed by footsteps running.

"Teddy!" I yelled once he came into view. He ran into me and hugged me hard. "Where is your dad?" I asked him.

"In the kitchen. He wants you to go see him. I'm suppose to take you into the living room." He told my mom, grabbed her hand, and began to lead her into the living room. I followed behind them but headed for the kitchen instead.

"What do you want?" I asked as I entered the kitchen.

"I want you to help me."

"With?"

"Set the table?" He asked.

"Sure." I walked over to the cupboard that had the plates in it.

"Alan is coming over too."

"Alright." I grabbed five plates. I put them down on the counter and walked to the utensil drawer. I grabbed four butter knifes, four cutting knifes, and four forks. For Teddy I grabbed a plastic fork. On my way back to the counter I placed the plates on, I grabbed a bunch of napkins.

It didn't take me long to set the table. It wasn't something that was hard to do. I headed back into the kitchen for cups.

"Use the glass cups. They look better." He winked. I grabbed four glasses, and one plastic cup and left to put them on the table. "Table looks good." He said coming over and placing a butter bowl in the middle of the table.

"I'm good like that." I laughed and turned to look at him. He smiled and stepped closer, hugging me.

"I'm happy you guys showed up." He said to the hug. When he pulled back he looked like he wanted to say something else, but didn't.

"Daddy can we open gifts now?" Teddy asked walking into the room.

"Sure." Mr. Fuller told his son.

After Mr. Fuller checked on the food one more time he joined us in the living room. I handed Teddy the gift I got for him and he smiled. It didn't take him long to open it up.

"Thank you! It's my favorite color too!" He ran over and hugged me. He then grabbed the toy monster truck and started to play.

"I have something for you too Teddy. Actually it's for both of you." My mom told them, handing them both a gift. Mr. Fuller looked at her confused but opened the gift anyway. Once he saw what was inside, he smiled but waited for Teddy to finish opening his gift.

"Wow!" Teddy said pulling his gift out of the box. "Daddy what do you have?" He asked. Me. Fuller pulled a shirt out, that looked just like the one Teddy pulled out. "The same thing as me!"

"My shirt says father, hold yours up." Teddy did what his father told him. "Your shirt says son." He turned to look at my mom. "Thanks."

"You're welcome."

"Alright me next." I stood up and walked over to Mr. Fuller, handing him the gift I got for him.

"What is it?" He asked.

"Open it." I told him and started walking away.

"I don't know what to say." He said.

"Don't say anything." My mom said. "Just kiss her."

"Mom!" I yelled.

"What? I'm just being honest."

I rolled my eyes and Mr. Fuller laughed. "Thanks Desiree. I know just the event to wear this shirt to." He smiled. "Now my gift to you." He walked over and dropped a small gift on my lap. Instead of returning to where he was sitting before he sat down in the coffee table in front of me.

I opened it and couldn't believe what I was seeing. "Oh my God." I said.

"What? Is it an engagement ring?" My mom asked.

"Not yet." Mr. Fuller winked in her direction.

"What did you get from daddy?" Teddy said pecking his head around his father. "Wow!" He said looking inside the box.

"Do you like it?" Mr. Fuller asked.

"No, I love it." I smiled and so did he.

"C'mon. I want to see what it is." I took it out and she gasped at the diamond bracelet. "You bought that for my baby girl?"

"Yes."

"Just get married already!" She cried.

"Thank you." I told him, ignoring my mother. But that thank you wasn't enough, I stood up and have him a hug.

"I'm glad you like it Des. That means so much to me." He whispered in my ear.

"I like anything you get me, you know that." I whispered back honestly.

"That makes things easier." We pulled back and he placed a soft kiss on my forehead. By the smile on my mothers face I could tell she not only saw what happened, but was paying very close attention to everything.

"Is it almost time to eat?" Teddy asked, jumping and sitting down on my lap.

"I'll go check on it." Mr. Fuller stood up.

"Need any help Theodore?" My mom asked.

"Most likely." He laughed then walked away. Mom stood up and followed behind her.

"Guess what." Teddy smiled at me.

"What?" I asked.

"Daddy got me a remote control car!"

"He did?"

"Yes. You want to see it?"

"Of course!" We both stood up.

"It's in my room. Come!" He started to lead me out of the living room.

As we passed by the kitchen I heard my mothers voice, so I became rather curious and stopped to eavesdrop. Teddy kept on walking towards his room.

"Some kiss that was." She said.

"What kiss?" He asked, with his back towards her.

"I saw you. When you pulled back from Desiree's hug you kissed her on the forehead."

"No I didn't."

"Don't lie to me Theodore!"

"Fine, I did. Something wrong?"

"No." She smiled. "The two of you would make a great couple."

"Everyone says that." He laughed.

"Then why aren't you a couple?"

He turned around to face her. "Because..."

"Are you coming?" Teddy asked taking my attention away from them in the kitchen.

"Yeah." I smiled down at the curly haired boy and once again followed him to his room.

"It's right there." He pointed on top of his dresser. "Daddy told me I can't touch it today. I have to wait until we play outside. He doesn't want it to get broken."

"Daddy's smart." I told him.

"Yeah."

"It's ready." Mr. Fuller said coming into Teddy's room. "Oh you're showing her your gift from daddy?"

"Yeah!" Teddy answered.

"What do you think?" He asked me.

"It's a nice gift for a little boy."

"That's what I said." He laughed. "Come, the food is ready and on the table." Teddy took off right away. "After you."

As we walked towards the dining room I felt him put his hand on my back. It made be jump, making him laugh.

"Is Alan here yet?" I asked.

"Nope."

"Bummer."

"Eh, it's okay."

"Did you two have a fight?"

"No."

"Why is it okay that he's not here?"

"Because you're here." He whispered in my ear.

We walked onto the room and right away there was a knock on the door. Mr. Fuller left to go answer it while I took a seat at the table.

"Did you like my car?" Teddy asked from his seat.

"Yeah!" I told him.

"Yay!!!" He cheered.

"Look who decided to join us." Mr. Fuller said entering the room with Alan.

"I got caught up at home." Alan said sitting down at the end of the table. Mr. Fuller walked to the other end of the table, and sat down. He sat next to the left of Teddy and to the right of me. He started to make Teddy a plate, and soon we were all making ours.

It was a peaceful evening. Teddy surprisingly finished all his food and even asked for seconds. That kid must of been hungry and tired because as soon as we all finished eating, he fell asleep.

It was a nice end to a great day.
