I layed on my bed until nightfall, waiting for the guys to come back, or wake up, whichever it was. Monster, Demon, Vampire... Different names, all them, and me. I heard a small noise, probably the others coming back.
"Alex?" David called, my stomach seemed to fold in on itself, I had been trying to figure out how to ask. But I really didn't want to talk to all of them, I didn't think I could.
"I'm here," I said, pulling myself up out of bed and going to stand against the wall. My voice still sounded broken, it didn't surprise me.
"Something wrong Alexandra?" Eric asked.
That question let my mind burst open, I glared at them.
"Yes something is wrong!" I shouted, making it echo around the room. But then my voice dropped "I went out to get a job today, like I have every day since I got here, and actually found one. The guy I talked to about it, he was there, last night. At the beach party." I said, trying very hard to ignore the look of triumph growing more and more pronounced on David's face. "I was willing to think it all just a dream, until he told me people had been found there this morning, dead!"
I could see it on all of them now, god why had I been so stupid.
"What happened Alex?" David asked
"I almost killed him, I came so close that I could see myself doing it, and by now he's either in the ICU or the morgue!"
"Oh he's not dead Alex, you'd know if he was." That stupid grin, that taunting, smug little smile. I couldn't take it, I stepped up to him.

"What the hell did you do to me David!" I whispered, my voice deathly cold, I hated him so much in that instant I felt I might explode from it.
"You know what I did, what we did," He said "We gave you family, and normal for the first time in your life!" I swayed slightly, he didn't sound angry, exactly, more, disappointed. Like I was a small child who had done something wrong. My hatred disappeared, I didn't know why, it just, ebbed away. The others were staring at us, David and I, nearly nose to nose. They had given me family, a place to stay, they had probably saved my life that night in the alley. But why, why this, I wanted to hate them. But I couldn't, in a way, David was right, they were my family, and they were all I had.
"You know what you are Alex, embrace it. We live forever, never grow old, never get sick, never die."
"But we must live in the shadows like demons! I want the sun David. I'll take it when I can keep the sun." And I stepped away "I'm going, I'll be back, but I need time to think."
As I headed to the door I heard him say one last thing.
"Finish what you started Alex."

This one is a bit short but I promise a longer one next time! Enjoy it.

Author's note - Alexandra did not become a full vampire because technically she didn't kill the boy. I love loopholes XD

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.

I Have Even Read the Rulebook!
As all stories begin, Prof died. Yes, truck-kun had something to do with that, but also a bird, a cat and some rebar. When he was presented with with the opportunity in the Afterlife Administration Bureau to be transmigrated into a game-like fantasy world, he did something, no one ever did: he read the Rulebook. Follow Prof on his road to be rich without working, touring a whole new world without a care and witness his realisation, that despite having read the Rulebook the folks living with the System for untold millennia know more about the rules. Important notes: 1, I'm not a native speaker, so be prepared for occassional typos, iffy grammar and maybe awkward sentences. The spell check was running, when I wrote the chapters, but it works in strange ways... If you point out mistakes, I will try to correct them 2, Scheduling will be two chapters a week, posted Saturdays before noon (CET). Depending on how much new chapters I can write consistently there will be probably more but as long as I have leftover chapters, the two per week will be posted no matter what. Chapters will be around 1500-2500 words as MS Word counts it. 3, I did not and will not post this novel on another site, if you find it somewhere else, please inform me 4, The Main Character's progression is slow, there will be no Levels, Skills, Abilities, Feats, Perks and Cheat Powers raining down on him 5, I've put Comedy as a genre because of my writing style not because the novel is a comedy per se. On the other hand, Traumatising Content is there because there is a lot of speciesism - those Elves are not nice people. 6, I put a lot of pop-cultural references into the chapters, try to find them! Enjoy!
