I roll my eyes as alex sliced one of our bodyguards neck. He turns around raising his eyebrow at my bored face expression.
"He called you ugly! And I look like you!" he reasons cleaning off his blade with the bottom of his shirt .
"Would you stop? He said you were ugly not me" I huff crossing my arms above my chest. Alexander shakes his head tapping his chin as his eyebrows furrowed.
"I'm pretty sure it was you he called ugly Drina" he replies nodding his head. I flick his forehead "idiot we look alike!".
"I'm literally better looking" he argues raising a eyebrow. Literally he's not I don't know who told him that. People are so mean lying to my idiotic twin brother.
"Whatever loser" I agree dropping the argument. Alex smiles brightly showing off his dimples. He leans down placing a kiss on my forehead making me cringe. I wipe the kiss off sticking my tongue out at him.
"It's good you know I'm the better twin " he says ignoring my childish behavior .
"Are you two done?" Rafael asks cutting into our conversation. I nod my head picking up a different knife. My eyes flicker back to the man we are torturing.
"So tell me where the real files are?" I say changing the tone in my voice from childish to strict and stern. The man stiffens up to my question. Alex groans slumping down into his chair.
"God just tell us so I can go to fucking bed!" Alex complains cutting off another finger . He lets out a laugh realizing it was the man middle finger .
"STOP PLEASE!" The man begs as tears fell from his eyes. His whole body shook as sobs escaped his mouth. The sight was absolutely pathetic. A grown man crying to two teenage kids.

"We said we would all you gotta do is tell us where the real files are" I state stabbing my knife into his thigh again. He gasps at the sudden action. His body is to weak and tired to let out another scream or sob.
"I c-can't he'll kill them" he stutters dropping his head allowing it to hang low.
"If you don't tell me in the next five minutes I'll be the one to kill your kids" alex growls slamming his hands down on the table. I roll my eyes sighing at my brother short temper .
"We don't kill kids but we'll leave them parentless" I correct my brother smiling at the thought. Some parents worse fear is their children being alone with no one to look after them. Dying with that fear in their hearts will never allow them peace in the after life.
"Okay! Just please give my wife and children protection!" The man shouts looking at alex with pleading eyes.
" tell us and I'll have them protected de'bardi promise" alex answers. He pressed his middle finger and index together pressing a kiss on the two fingers before pressing it against his heart.
"The Italian m-mafia" he slammers before his eyes shut. I stood up bending down to his level, I check for a vital but their wasn't any. I let out a sigh as I looked over at Alexander. He groans rubbing his forehead.
"So now we have to go back to daddy's huh?" Alexander says sarcastically helping me up.
" we don't have our cover alex they won't allow us to walk inside their house and play family" I reply dusting my pants off.
"We need those files! Do we really have a choice our mission is to find him and kill him" Alexander argues .

"Can I at least change before we head off and play the teenagers who dying for attention from their dad?" I mumble walking up the stairs with Alex following behind me.
"I'm changing to and showering only because Rafael smells" Alexander teases as he pushes past me running to his room.
"That doesn't even make sense!" Rafeal whines walking next to me.
"You do smell" I point out before leaving him behind.
I ran my fingers through my now curled hair. Alexander was going on about how annoying children are ever since Aurora beat him in Rock Paper Scissors. She just sat on my lip rolling her eyes at his childish behavior.
"He's just hating!" Aurora whisper yells in my ear. I wince at the loudness in her voice. She's stilling learning how to whisper which let me tell you she's not getting the hang of it.
"Yes he's just a big hater princess don't mind him" I remind her as I wrapped my arms tightly around her waist. She lets out a giggle to her new nickname she adores.
"Can I pretty please wear your jacket?" She asks me giving me her best puppy dog eyes. I laugh nodding my head. She gets up allowing me to take off my black jacket.
"Can I please have my daughter back?" Rafael grumbles crossing his arms eyeing me as Aurora snuggled into my chest. I roll my eyes allowing myself to smile brightly.
"She's my god daughter!" I laugh hugged Aurora . Rafael shakes his head as he got up. He made his way over to me pulling Aurora out of my hands. I whine as her giggles filled the air. Her beautiful blonde hair fell down covering her face.
"Rafe!" She giggles moving her hair out of her face giving him a sheepish smile. He looks down at her with so much love in his eyes. If you didn't know their background story you would have never known she wasn't his blood daughter.
I look away meeting Alex's eyes. He frowns at the sight of their love. Oh how we missed out on any type of parent love. Truth me told I have mommy issues he has daddy issues. Having a dad never bothered me but having no mom did.
I didn't have anyone to braid my hair or teach me how to make my nails. All I had was a stranger teach me how to load a gun or how to sharpen a knife.
"Looks like we're in Italy" Alexander huffs getting up from his chair. I look out the jet window taking in the sight . God it's beautiful here.
"Let's go see daddy" Alexander fake cheers giving me two thumbs up. Fucking hell he's annoying .

Unliving
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon, November 2021] For the longest time, Aideen Fiachna had only one prescient wish; to be the daughter her parents could take pride in. The idea was a tall order, especially as her father stood at the head of the Templar order, and her grandfather as the Pope. However, she endeavored to try nonetheless. Yet fate had a different path in store for her. For all her efforts, all her best laid plans, were but the broken off crumbs of 'one day'. That day, she was brutally slain by a vile, accursed undead being. Though, not even restful eternity awaited her in death. She awakened inside a coffin. Her coffin. During her own funeral wake. Discovering, to her horror, that she had risen. Not somehow resurrected, no, but back in the form of that most hated of beings--the curse of undeath. What will fate deal her next? Toothpick
“Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.
