《Dark Roses #Wattys2019》Chapter 39

After a couple of minutes of trying to break free from the ropes tied around our wrists and ankles, Michael entered into the room dragging a large black body bag against the floor.
Danny and I both immediately froze not only out of the fear of getting caught, but the fear of who could possibly be in that body bag.
I could feel my wrists burning and bleeding from how much I twisted them.
He soon released the grip he had on the bag carelessly, and looked at Danny and I smiling.
"So.." He began to speak.
"Who do you guys think it is? Could it possibly be one of your guys's bitch little friends, huh? Nina....Jackson...Hanna...Tia?! Could it be one of your guys's pathetic no good parents? Some random kid or adult I found on the street....possibly one of my old victims? I don't know.........let's find out."
I looked at Danny trying to see what he thought about this.
My heart was pounding intensely.
Danny faced me with widened helpless red eyes.
Michael might never let us go.
We might be the next ones to end up in that bag.
Michael bent down unzipping the bag, and yanked the individual out of the bag by there blonde hair.
It was his mom.
I closed my eyes not wanting to see another dead body. However, Michael dragged her over to Danny and I, and placed her in the middle between us.
She reeked of rotting flesh, and death.
I turned to my left becoming unbelievably nauseous, and squeezed my eyes shut.
I heard Danny throwing up.
Michael let out a laugh, but that soon turned into anger. He punched the wall, and threw something made out of glass on the floor.
I felt one of the pieces fly into the side of my calf muscle.
I let out a scream as the pain reached every inch of my body.
"That woman...PUT ME THROUGH SUFFERING!....she...she..took my sister away from me. I was the BEST thing FOR HER!!! She put me into mental hospitals all my life growing up and never let me see her. Never let me protect her from all of the dangers out there in the world. I loved her...and there was no one better for her than me....that night in the woods....I came home and followed her and her boyfriend into the woods...they got into an argument and he pushed her down on the floor...." He began to cry.
"....so I took out my pocket knife and ran towards him stabbing him in the chest. But I wasn't seen as the hero, I never was. She still chased after him...leaving ME FOR HIM!....." Michael paused, and began to laugh.
"I shot them both in the heart...and it felt so..so...good...."
I began to shake.
"Please...please just let us go Blaire..Michael...please.."
He walked towards me, and crept down over my body running a finger along my stomach.
I let out a cry.
"But Rose.....I'm not finished yet.."

He smiled, got up, and walked back over to where he was standing.
"You see...when I saw you...it just all made sense. I can protect you...love you.....and I began to write out stories of our very own scenarios since that day....my mom moved me around everywhere..from house to house..city to city..state to state, all when I started to kill girls that reminded me of you....we went to the best people to change my identity...hid all of the important evidence...bought some of the best makeup..." With that, Michael paused.
He grabbed ahold of his hair, and pulled it off revealing that it's a wig. Underneath it laid almost bald like spiked hair.
Next, he reached underneath his eye, pulling off fake skin showing that he had major dark bags.
He removed fake skin from other places off of his face, revealing multiple of scars and bruises.
He rolled up his sleeves, showing the tattoos he had mocking religious symbols, showing death.
But what caught my attention the most, was how he pulled out fake teeth. Underneath were rotting grey ones.
He truly, looked like a psychopath.
I couldn't help but have my mind go into a state of shock.
"...Ms.Weston just didn't want to see her poor, little, innocent boy go to jail..." He spoke in a deeper, more evil like tone.
"Such a big mistake..." He continued to laugh looking at her.
It absolutely was.
Out of nowhere, the sound of cop cars came from outside of Michael's house. Lights began to flash inside, and the sound of a helicopter soared above the house.
The police were here.
I began to cry in relief.
Michael went towards the window crouching down.
"Shit.." He spoke. He got up and went over to Danny and I staring at us.
The police began to speak through a megaphone.
"Blaire Weston...we know you're in there, and we know you have Rose Adams and Danny Butler, release the hostages now and safely and we can talk this situation out." I heard someone shout.
Michael went back over to the window crouching down, and opened it.
"This place is bombed! If anyone dares to try to come in I will fucking shoot Rose and Danny and blow this place up!" He shouted.
My eyes widened. I looked over Anna, and at Danny.
He was only shivering, and turned to the side.
"Blaire-"
"No fuck you guys! Don't test me!!" He continued to shout. He walked away from the window, and towards us again.
He ran a hand over his head, and paced back and forward.
If I can get him to untie me, I can attack him.
Thinking from whatever popped into my head, I began to speak.
"Blaire, I love you. I have from the moment I laid eyes on you, and I wanted us to be together but I was scared...scared of what other people would think, scared of what they said about you...But now, now is the right time to escape somewhere together...you...you did a good job killing my sister. She would have never allowed this..." I was trying not to break down and cry.

Michael stared at me.
"You don't mean that-"
"-yes I do." I spoke.
I continued to talk.
"Your sister was a bitch for not loving someone like you. Someone that could have protected her, loved her like no other...maybe I don't even deserve someone like you.."
"Shh shh don't say that Rose, of course you do.." He spoke walking over to me and kneeling down next to me.
I gulped.
"I don't know how we're going to be able to escape though...the cops are surrounding our house..."
"-I have a secret doorway in my basement that connects to your house underground..we can go through there and escape from your backyard. I have an underground cabin in the mountains, when we get there we can stay there for a day just until I figure everything out.."
That's how he snuck into my house.
"This all can happen...under one condition....you untie Danny and I..."
I could feel my body beginning to stiffen even more than what it already has. Pretty soon I'll be getting frostbite.
Michael stood up, and laughed.
"Untie you guys so you both can run away from me? Huh? Is that the plan?!" He yelled.
I closed my eyes.
"No it isn't..." I felt tears rush from my eyes.
This isn't going to work.
Sometimes sacrifices are necessary.
"At least let Danny go...you can keep me, I won't run from you, you don't even have to untie me. Just please..if you want to have me..you're going to have to let him go." I spoke.
Michael stood still for a moment, and thought about my offer.
"Ok..ok..." He spoke.
He walked over to Danny and picked him up by his shoulder harshly.
Danny's body seemed lifeless, but he let out a low almost quiet yell.
His legs were both wobbly, and weak. Michael probably dislocated all of the joints throughout Danny's body, because it seemed as if he couldn't control anything.
Michael stood Danny in front of him, and began to push him forward.
"Rose..." I heard Danny cry.
I took a deep breath, as I let out a weep, and full out started crying.
"Rose!" Was the last thing I heard Danny say, before Blaire took him out of the room.
I looked up at the ceiling seeing my breath in the air.
I'm not going to survive this.
"Please forgive me God.." I spoke.
Because if Michael doesn't kill me before we get out of here....
I will myself.
A couple of minutes later, Michael walked back into the room laughing.
"They almost shot me out there, hopefully your..friend..is okay. I had to push him on my doorstep to avoid fully stepping outside of the house..not like he probably felt anything anyways."
I closed my eyes.
"When do we leave?" I spoke through gritting my teeth.
I heard Blaire walk towards me, and crouch down.
He ran a finger through my hair.
"I looked at your house......the police are there to...they're everywhere on this block....we wont be able to escape...."
I opened my eyes, and saw him pulling out a gun from his jean pocket.
"Rose...I love you to death....you know that right?"
I let out another cry, and refused to make eye contact with him.
I wasn't ready for this.
"Shhh, it's okay...we can do it together. It'll be quick."
He then bent down, and kissed me on the lips.
I wanted to scream, I wanted to protect myself from him, but I couldn't.
I couldn't.
He pulled me up from underneath the arms, and dragged me towards the front door.
"Let me live..." I spoke out loud.
"I want to live too...but it wont work out that way..."
I have no final words in my head.
We reached the front of the house, and Michael placed me down on the floor and walked over to the radio.
He placed an opera CD inside of it, and pressed the play button.
Ave Maria began to play, and he turned it to the highest volume it could possibly go to.
He walked back over to me singing along to it, picked me up from underneath the arms, and began to dance with me.
I continued to cry.
We swayed back and forth for a minute until Michael stopped, and pulled out the gun pointing it towards my heart.
I looked into his piercing blue eyes, which had a few tears coming out of them.
It was like they were screaming for help....there was a human stuck inside of Michael, but trapped by an evil entity.
And it's too late to be saved.
Everything from there, then turned into slow motion.
I zoned out the music, as I heard the front door break open behind me, and heard gunshots fire.
Michael's blood flung onto my face and body.
While at the same time,
A piercing pain came crashing through my chest.
I immediately fell backwards approaching the ground, and felt the bullet exit my body.
It felt like a movie. It felt like someone pressed pause and play continuously, trying to capture every detail in the moment.
When I slammed onto the ground, I could feel myself dying.
Dying.
I heard screams rupture from behind me, as I tried to gasp for air.
Dying.
It hurt. The pain was unbearable.
The music continued to play.
I'm dying.
I felt the police crowd around me beginning to untie wrists and feet, and press against my gunshot wound to try to stop the bleeding and get me to the ambulance.
However, my focus wasn't on them.
My focus was on the heavenly angelic figure that stood to the left of me with wings, bringing warmth to my body.
It placed a hand on my cheek.
"Don't go to sleep on us Rose! Don't go to sleep!" I heard someone shout.
However, I closed my eyes, as all of the pain and worries washed away from my body.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
