《The Nerd that turned out to be Vampire-ish [Wattys2015]》CHAPTER 49: Don's father.

Like Tristan the masked man also had lost consciousness. Well, my pitch was harder than I imagined. Also, he hit his head on the elevator's metal doors – and that was something I didn't do on purpose. Which turns out to be a pretty hard blow. So I'm expecting to see a big hump to grow on top of his forehead by now.
And, the masked man is Don's father.
What's more shocking? He was the one I saw at the queen's beehive, the one who held out the door for us. And that's why I thought he was familiar because apparently, he's also one of my escort, that time of my supposed to be ritual in becoming a keeper.
In short. He was following me.
I didn't tell Don about that minor detail though. That his father's a stalker. I must make sure of that theory first before I spill the beans. So, I'd probably need to do a one on one talk with him, when I have the chance.
We're currently hanging out in Tristan's room, while waiting for the two passed out people to wake up. Looking around, the ambient of the room turned out pretty awkward. Partly because of the tension, and also the fact that the culprit is Don's father. Even Don's usual demeanor had changed, his words were short and brief. Also, his smiling character had long been replaced by a cranky grandpa. Like he was possessed by Grumpy in one of Snow White's seven dwarves.
We've also extended our stay in the hotel, because Don wanted to know the reason about his father's actions. And so is the rest of us, obviously. Plus, we can't go back to the Takano household tagging another person with us, they might think were abusing their hospitality.
Retrospectively, I'm now recalling back at the memory of what just happened. Right after my lucky one-in-a-million throw, Kayla immediately run to my side. Bitching on me on why I didn't listen, and that I should've stayed where I was. Ranting about what if I got hurt, and blah blah blah.

Well, my head's probably made of stone because it's too hard to deal with.
But after Don took off the culprit's mask, his surprise face caught Kayla's attention, and away from me – thank god for that. She run beside her partner and asked what's wrong. Don blinked tons of times before answering her, that the guy I just hit with a shoe, was actually his father.
After knowing that, Kayla turned to me and had this weird expression. It was a mixture of surprise and an almost-guilt face. She might've killed Don's father if I hadn't stepped up. So Kayla as weird as it sounds, feels like she owes me, of some sort. And overall, she's grateful that she didn't need to pull the trigger. That it only needs a smelly shoe to put down a cobra.
An opening of a door, brought me to the present. Kayla walked in with a bag of instant noodles.
"How'd it go?" I asked. Well, I'm curious about how the complaints turned out. We got a couple of that because of the commotion a while ago.
Kayla shrugged. "It's fine. There's nothing a bit of cash won't fix." She said with a smirk. "You hungry?"
I nodded and stood up. "Any ramen?"
"It's all ramen." She said and puts the bag on the table.
I was slurping on my noodles when suddenly Tristan sprung up from his wake. It was quite entertaining to watch his reaction, when he saw who's lying next to him. I've never seen his eyes grew that big.
"What happened?" He asked while standing weakly out of the bed, his posture says he's still a bit tipsy.
"Isn't it obvious? You were sleeping with him." I said, and there's two meanings to that joke. It's up to him what comes to mind first.
And it was too late for me to realize what I just said. Well, my mouth is sometimes too big for me to handle, it's a fact I can't deny. Keith and Kayla did laughed, but that earned me a glare from Don. Well I had to admit, it's too early to joke like that in this situation. Immediately, I made a piece sign to Don, but he simply rolled his eyes.

Okay then. Back to slurping...
The television was the only sound in the room, aside from the imaginary crickets in my head.
I was done eating my noodles, and minutes had gone by, before sleeping beauty finally awakes – without any true love's kiss that is. Don's father sat up from the bed, while rubbing his forehead. The bump, is pretty obvious. Now he looks like a bald version of Tyra Banks.
I don't know why I find this funny, but I'm trying really hard to suppress the laughter from escaping my mouth.
His eyes then drifted into the room, staring each of our faces, and briefly stopped on Don's, before his gaze landed on me. "Little Victoria." He said and smiled.
A light shiver travelled through my spine. Damn, that was creepy.
"Dad. What's the meaning behind that?" Don, straightforwardly cuts to the chase and asked his father without hesitation. He then stood up and walked towards him.
His father let out a low chuckle. "Guess. I'm finally busted."
"Obviously." I mumbled to myself. He's starting to get on my nerves.
"I've been watching dear little Victoria for quite some time now." He paused. "And it's scary to see you slowly uncovering the truth. So, I had to do something."
I rolled my eyes. That's not half as scary in my part. Knowing someone's watching me, the whole freaking time, it's almost as disturbing as Charlie in Pretty Little Liars. And adding to that creepy factor, is he's openly admitting on the fact that he really is stalking me.
"Stealing the list was pointless. We already have the name planted in our heads." I said and stood up as well. "But I guess we don't need that anymore. Now that you're here."
He smiled knowingly at me. "Fearless. Just like your mother."
"Dad! Tell me what the fuck's going on!" Don finally exploded.
He sighed and ran a hand through his bald head. "Well, I guess this is the time to condemn for my sins." He briefly smiled and looked at Don. "I'm sorry son. I've lied to you." He paused and looked at Kayla. "And also to you dear. I've solved the case long before you've handled it. And I hid the truth."
Kayla's noodles dropped on the carpet, when she too had stood up.
Standing ovation anyone?
Keith and Tristan simply stood by the side, their backs rested on the wall. As their eyes are completely focused on the scene at hand.
"After all these years." Kayla said and wiped the tear on her cheeks. "All that hard work. WHY?!" She too had gone strong.
Kayla was about to launch on him, but I grabbed her arm. She sighed and breathe in deeply. Sometimes she has the tendency to act before she thinks – or should I say, punch before she thinks.
Maybe the one-on-one talk was never an option in the first place. It seems like a conference was more fitting. I shook my head at how drastic everything has turned out.
"I had to do it." He said and stood up. Walking towards Kayla. "You'll understand when you're in my situation."
He patted Kayla's head, while wearing a sad smile. And it was too late for us to notice, that his other hand had already snaked onto Kayla's side and took out her gun.
Oh my god.
Immediately all of us tensed. Even the two boys on the wall had stood straight. And we all had a common look on our faces – fear. Well, except for the bald man that is.
"What are you doing?!" Don asked, and is about to go near his father.
"Don't." He briefly said and pointed the gun at me.
Holy shit.
Without a moment's notice, he grabbed my arm and sprinted out of the room.

The Grey Realm, an Erebus Story.
Written by: Staugroan and The Inklets. Edited by: Claudia Adams. In the beginning there was a god, who watched over and made one world his own. Soon after the god grew restless, but happened to stumble on a small world filled with life. This world was named Erebus by its peoples; humanity. The god was so fascinated with this new world that he started to copy it back home, creating oceans, forests, deserts, and so forth. Then the god created life and eventually his favored creations who would be immortals and be the better of mankind in every way-the elves. So often the god had traveled to Erebus that the two worlds became linked by magic and their inhabitants could cross at will. Relations between the races flourished, and a great empire was born in the Grey Realm, home of the elves. But the god once again grew restless, and set loose great beasts that stood at the top of any food chain, the apex. At first the elves met the challenge and fought them head on. But mankind was not so lucky, they died in droves to push back even a single apex. Something had to be done. Elves and man worked together to begin sealing off the worlds to protect mankind, to limit the ways in and out to better fight the apex off and keep their fellows safe. The ritual had adverse effects the likes of which neither the elves nor man could predict; the sealing of the worlds started slow, but the magic had never been done before, and in their ignorance it spread to completely cut the two worlds off from one another. It ejected the apex, and other magical being back into the Grey Realm, saving Erebus. At first the elves were content, they would find a way back once the apex were dead and gone. But the seal had done more than keep Erebus locked away. The powersource of the seal was magic itself, from both worlds, and it consumed it all greedily. The elves, weakened without their magic, crumbled into ruin, and the apex were free to hunt the other races of the Grey Realm. Two-thousand years later a strange phenomena is occurring and magic is slowly returning to the Grey Realm, and tears open that allow passage to Erebus. Thu'lain and a few elves must make the journey to fallen kingdom of the elves Anosora, in the hopes of reclaiming what was once theirs. They must face their nemesis the apex, and survive not only the species that have turned against them, but a terrible being left behind by the god to kill even the apex. Uch'l'thein, the faceless terror.
