Kayla came waltzing back to the living room and brought not just my phone but also a charger. "Your phone's dead. Idiot." She said as she threw my phone to me, and it was a miracle that I was able to catch it with my clumsy hands. "Charge it first." And again without warning, she threw the charger straight to my face, this time I know my hands are a few seconds too late. So I closed my eyes and waited for the impact, but Don easily caught it with one hand.

"Careful. We don't want another black-eye." He simply said to Kayla, and handed me the charger. Kayla just rolled her eyes and went back to the lab.

"Thanks." I said to him.

"There's a plug under the table." He said while cleaning up. He also took my now cold noodles, and half-empty can of beer. "You're done right?" He asked me before going back to the kitchen, and I simply nodded.

Now I'm having second thoughts whether to hate this guy or not. I know he's been kind of a jerk but he does have some good qualities. I remember someone say that, it's not fair to only focus on the mistakes and disregard the things that the person had done right.

It's like I'm ignoring the moral scale. The good qualities has more weight over the bad ones. Yet sometimes I tend to switch things up, and focus on the one that's on top, which is the lighter one –the bad one.

So, I'm not simply going to judge them yet for what I see now. I can't truly know a person for just being with him/her for a few hours. Wow. I'm shocked at how mature I sound. Maybe I learned my lesson when I met Tristan. I judged him based on our first meeting, but later found out that he's actually a nice guy behind those cold-smug-arrogant facade he always puts up.

I heard a clicking sound, when I looked up it was Don staring at me, with amusement written all over his face. "Wow. It seemed like you just traveled to some spiritual place." He paused. "So what were you thinking?" He asked.

"Many things." I told him the truth, well, in general that is.

He sighed. By the look on his face, it seems like his patience for me had just reached its expiration date. "And I thought I have someone decent to talk to." He sighed. "You're the same as Kayla." He slouched on the sofa.

"I'm sorry." I paused. Why do I suddenly feel sorry? "It's just..." I stopped I can't seem to finish my sentence with all this thoughts in my head.

I know I'm too soft! Gosh I should change my name to Marshmallow or Boobs.

"I understand. It's not easy to trust us after what we did, and said." He paused. "But we really need you. I may regain my father's name if I finish this unsolved case of his." He looked up the high ceiling and sighed. Desperation is oozing out of him.

So his father was also a hunter and the case was passed on to him...

Now I understand why he seems so desperate to hand me over to the council. He had good intentions, well, for his father that is but not mine. It was a good thing that Kayla fought on what she thought was right. Because if not, I'd probably end up in a dungeon. Wait, do they still do it the olden days? Or they probably have cells with TV's now. But if he did hand me over, that will put another taint, well, not just on his father's name but also to his. Because if justice is served on their – I mean our – world, the council will know I'm innocent.

"What do you mean by I'm the same as Kayla?" I asked curiosity got the best of me and my pride. I'm now actually ready to have a casual conversation with this stupid donkey.

"Kyla or well the people around me in general, look down on me. For they think I'm the same as my father, a disappointment. The council didn't trust me well enough to handle this case alone, so they sent Kayla, like my babysitter." He ranted. Maybe he had no one to talk to with all this pent up emotions.

Poor donkey.

"Why would he be a disappointment? It's normal to have unsolved cases right?" I asked. I've seen some detective movies, and there really are cases that turns cold, like my noodles. Leads fade, and eventually the case just goes soggy.

"He handled it for 15 years without any leads, like chasing a ghost." He scratched his head. "But when you went to the Carius household in the South. Marvin thought you were her. Well he's deaf so he doesn't really understand the conversations. He based it on Divina's actions towards you." He simply said.

Which makes me wonder why is he explaining me all this? All I asked was the time his father worked on this case. This feels so much like how a villain would do, boasting about his evil schemes before he does his evil deed, but then fails in the end.

So Marvin is deaf and a spy, interesting.

"Wow. That's very detailed." I said what's on my mind, but only the minimal version. "So how long have you taken over his case?"

"About three years." He said and scratched his head.

Wow. And to think all those times of chasing Victoria this is the first shot they've had in years. Wait. If this case had been holding him and his father for years. Won't they hold a grudge against Victoria? Or they're too professional to make their work personal? I need to be careful around this donkey, he might have some hidden agendas up his sleeves.

The door to the lab opened, and I sighed in relief to see Jonas. It's a pretty good timing to show up in time when the atmosphere of the room is about to get awkward.

I don't know if my hunch is right, but it feels like both donkey and I are studying each other. Both putting on masks and hiding our thoughts behind it.

"Vicky." Jonas spoke and paused. "Uh, it's okay if I call you that, right?" He asked sheepishly and I nodded.

So were on the nickname basis. Though I think he's purposely doing that to avoid mentioning Victoria's name. Well, it's also my name but more so, it's the name of the person they've been hunting for years, their prey.

"We need to talk." He said, and gestured me to come inside the laboratory. Those words brought me to a memory of that time I was called to the principal's office, for lighting up fireworks in the gym. Well, it was a boring day on 5th grade, might as well put some spark to it, literally.

I guess I'm in trouble...

I followed him to a desk where Kayla was sitting on, she looks like a badass principal. What she lacks? Is a whip.

Okay, why am I singing the Nae Nae song in my head all of a sudden.

She looked at me while I was walking towards the table. "You know what this is right?" She asked while holding a piece of my vitamin.

"Yeah, it's my vitamin." I honestly said, before I learned that it's similar to what Anna's friend, Lea, had been taking. A blood supplement of some sort.

"When Marvin texted us about you and told us about the ritual. It all didn't make sense to me, because Victoria already did her pledge as a hunter. So that's why I suspected you were not her, well aside from the unusual similarities. I put aside my suspicions and went on instinct, to catch you." She paused and sighed. "It was a stupid move. But I guess everything happens for a reason." She said and jumped out of the table. "So why would a half-blood pledge to become a keeper?" She asked and her face was only a few inches away from mine.

Even though she's about the same height as me, her posture felt really intimidating, like I've come face to face with a giant.

"I never knew I was a half-blood, till that night." I said the truth. "So I wasn't able to do my pledge after one of my witnesses found out of my identity." I sighed at the memory of slitting my finger. Honestly, it was a waste of blood and courage. To think that that was the first time I faced my fear.

"You thought you were human?" She asked, and I nodded. "And you also thought this is just mere vitamins?" She asked, and I replied with a nod, again.

"This is a high class supplement for vampires on extensive blood diet. Very expensive as well." Jonas paused. "I don't know how you're able to get your hands on this. Because it's only distributed to elite vampires, well, with money."

"Tons of money." Kayla supported Jonas. "We checked your background, and your parents as well. They're both humans. And no offense, but there's no way they can afford this." She shook my vitamin's container. "And I think you have a monthly supply on this right?" I nodded to her question.

They checked my parent's background? Oh my god!

I hope this doesn't get out of hand. I might probably have to cooperate, well because if not, they might harm my parents. Escaping is not an option now.

"One thing's for sure, your parents aren't the one who bought that." Jonas said as he sat on a chair.

Kayla walked back to the table and puts down my vitamins. "Someone supplies them, and that person might be Victoria Hale." I gulped at the thought of meeting my birth mother. "So we need you to ask them, who the supplier is."

"I honestly don't know how to ask them." I looked down on the floor, and sighed heavily. Moments ago, I thought that I was ready to confront my family and ask about the truth. But I can't. "They don't know yet, that I already found out." I paused and breathe heavily again. "That I'm adopted." I said as a tear fell down on the floor.

I'm adopted.

I've known it already since that night, but it's just now that it really sinks in. Those words that came out my mouth felt like a venom as it traveled through my tongue, and it fuckin hurts.
