ZARA

"Hello?" Jay's sleepy voice comes through the phone and Zara's stomach flips.

"Hi baby," she replies drunkenly.

"Zara? What the hell are you doing?" Concern shimmers through his words.

"Oh, nothing," she giggles, and trips. "I'm peachy."

"Is everything alright?"

"I miss you baby."

"Wait. Are you drunk?" Jay is now wide awake.

"Pfff, nooo," Zara slurs. "I'm sober ober. Sobery obery." She hiccups and giggles at her own stupidity.

"Where are you?" Jay asks. Zara can imagine him getting out of bed and pulling his pants on.

"I don't know. Wonderland?" Zara sits down on the curb.

"Are you at home?"

"No," she laughs. "Ooh look, there's this fancy fire carving," she diverges. "Fancy," she slurs.

"You're by the Breeburn torch? Don't move, I'll be there in a few minutes."

Three minutes later, he arrives with his car. He quickly gets out and helps her into the passenger seat.

"You okay?" He asks, buckling her seatbelt.

"Mmhmm," she slurs.

Jay notices her cut. "What happened on your forehead?" He asks her, running his fingers around the cut.

"Oh, I slipped in the bathroom." She bites her lip.

"Slipped in the bathroom?" Jay questions in disbelief.

"Okay okay, i didn't." She tells him, looking out of her window.

"So then?" He prods.

She sighs. "It's kind of a long story."
