《The End》Part 18: Denver

"I don't get why I'm here. I seriously would love just one day to do nothing. I'm a lazy person, Elena and you've been making me do so much." Rosa complained as she walked into the Salvatore house.
"You are coming with me so I can keep you safe." Rosa raised her eyebrow. "This way Klaus can't stop you in the middle of the road when you're unprotected." Rosa sighed as her sister walked her all the way to the Salvatores. "Stay here, I'm going to talk to Alaric."
"Got it...mom." Elena rolled her eyes and left.
As Rosa walks into the living room, not caring about Elena's rules she finds Stefan staring at the fire place. He doesn't even look up to greet her, he just stares. Rosa looks up to see Damon bringing down luggage. He gives Rosa a nod which she assumed was the best she would get for a greeting.
"You hear from Klaus." Damon asked her brother.
"Not yet. I'm sure I will soon though." Stefan picks up his white oak stake and Rosa studies it carefully. "He's expecting me to deliver two stakes, I only have one."
"Well, that's going to be disappointing for him." Damon said.
"I'll get it out of Alaric. I just need some time."
"I like the confidence, Stefan. I don't share it, but I like it."
"You don't think I can do what it takes?" Stefan asked his brother.
"Nope." Rosa answered. The two looked at her, different expressions shown on their faces. Stefan was irritated. He was not in the mood to babysit Rosa right now. Damon had a smirk on his face and clearly agreed with her.
"Well, you're good Stefan again. You're in control. Sorry, you might get the girl, but you lose the edge. Speaking of..." Elena entered the room just as Damon called it. "Have you ever flown first class?" He asked her which made Rosa look at them confused.
"Who did you compel for that?"
"Pft, please. I use miles." He said as he picked up the luggage and quickly left.
"Stefan..." She says softly.
"Be safe." He responded. Elena forces the smallest smile Rosa had ever seen before walking out the door.
Rosa looks at Stefan and then to Elena's back as she walks out. "I should...I should probably follow her." There was a moment of silence as the two stared at each other. "Ok then." She said before running out of the house to meet up with Elena and Damon. "So, where are we going?"
"No where—"
"To get little Gilbert." Damon cuts Elena off which earns the Elena an angry glare.
"You were going to get Jeremy without me?" She asked. "Why?"
"Because it may not be safe." Elena answered.
"I though the whole point of sending him away was that it was safe." Rosa commented. She was still annoyed with her sister. Jeremy was her little brother, too. It wasn't fair that Elena thought she could get Jeremy all by herself. "Ok, let's go."

"Rosa you can't come."
"Why not?"
"Yeah, Elena, why not?" Damon also asked. Which earned both of the twins to roll their eyes.
"You—you don't have any clothes." Rosa narrowed her eyes at her sister and shrugged.
"I'll borrow yours. Now, let's go." Rosa told them and she got into the car. She watched as Elena glared at Damon before getting into the front seat.
"This'll be fun. I needed another Hilbert road trip. The lab one was just so great." Damon said with a grin on his face and Rosa swore she saw a vein bulge in Elena's head.
—
"I forgot you sent him to Denver. Why Denver? Like any other place. I'm sure if there's vampires in Mystic Falls, there's probably vampires somewhere in Denver." Rosa told them as they walked into a batting cage. "And since when does Jeremy play baseball. Isn't he supposed to be a loner kid." She asked as she looked around. She always thought her and Jeremy were so similar and Rosa thought that if she hated this place, so would Jeremy.
"There he is." Elena points out the boy holding a bat, he swings and misses.
"That makes more sense." Rosa mumbled.
"Next time we compel him, remind me to make him batter at baseball." Damon says as they walk over to the batting cage.
"Hey Jer!" She calls out.
"Hey loser!" Rosa also calls out. A wide grin appeared on Jeremy's face as he ran out of the batting cage and wrapped his arms around Rosa. Lifting her up as they spun around. "Ok gross, put me down." Rosa said as Jeremy smiled at her. Elena watched with a sad face. How happy Jeremy was to see Rosa compared to her.
Jeremy then turned to Elena and Damon, confused. "Elena? What's wrong?" He asked. The four of them walk around as Damon explains the situation. Even Rosa was paying attention considering most of the time she was left out of the loop.
"Katherine sired us, Rose sired Katherine, all we need to do is find out who sired Rose." Damon said.
"So, you traveled across the country to get me to talk to a dead vampire?" Jeremy asked them, confused. Rosa didn't blame him, it didn't make much sense to her either.
"Dead vampire is redundant, but yes." Damon explained.
"Well, I can't. I could talk to Anna and Vicki because I knew them. I've never even met Rose."
"What good is you dying and coming back to life if you can't talk to a ghost when I need you to?" Damon complained.
"Rose spent a long time running from Klaus as well. She and Damon were close, so maybe we can use him as a connection." Elena suggested.
"Fine, fine, but can we do this later? My friend just got here and yes, Damon, I actually have some. I'll call you when I'm done. Bye Rosa." Jeremy said.
"See ya." Rosa responded. As Jeremy walks away Elena and Rosa turn around and freeze. Kol was now staring back at them.

"Jer..." Elena said softly.
"Hey man." Jeremy said.
"Guys, it's Kol!" Elena shouted. Kol suddenly hit Damon with the wooden bat. The bat breaks in half and Damon falls to the ground.
Rosa ran in front of Jeremy, but he stepped in front of his sister, putting his arm out in front of her. "What are you doing?" He asked his so called friend.
"Jeremy, get back! He's an Original." Elena tells him.
"What?"
"No hard feelings, mate. But we're not buds." Kol says before grabbing an aluminum bat from the bat rack to his side. "You know, I'll never get use to aluminum. But hey, at least it won't break."
Kol swung the bat and hit Damon once again. This time Damon grabs the bat with one hand and picks up a broken piece of wood with his other. He stabs Kol in the chest and they all watch as Kol falls to the ground.
"Did you kill him?" Jeremy asked.
"No, but it'll give us a head start. Ok, come on." Damon pulls Elena by her arm as she seemed frozen from shock. Jeremy and Rosa walk behind them.
They finally arrived at a motel. Rosa wrinkled her nose at the smell. She missed the comfort of her house. Rosa waits at the car as Damon, Elena and Jeremy get there things.
"Why don't you have anything?" Jeremy asked his sister.
"Because Elena didn't tell me she was coming to get you today so I had to come without luggage. Sister of the year, so I'm sharing her clothes." Jeremy nodded. He wasn't sure if he dugouts laugh or be mad at Elena.
"For the record, she's the one who wanted to stay in a motel, not me." Damon said, referring to Elena.
"So, where are we?" Jeremy asked.
"Corner of somewhere and nowhere where Kol can't find us." Damon answered.
"It smells so gross here." Rosa complained. "Or maybe that's just you." She said, nudging her little brother slightly.
"Oh shut up, I was exercising."
"That's even grosser." Rosa said with a face of disgust. Everyone looked at her and she just continued walking to their room.
"I can't believe Kol was a vampire." Jeremy said referring back to the conversation he was having with Damon.
"Well, didn't you find it weird that you made a friend so fast? Have you met you?" Damon asked and Rosa laughed. Elena glared at the two.
"Not helping." She said.
"But he's not wrong." Rosa adds. Jeremy gives his sister an annoyed lol and she sticks out her tongue. Elena watches as her siblings laugh together, without her.
She always knew that Jeremy and Rosa were really close, but she had always thought she was the sibling that tied them together. That her and Jeremy were closer and her and Rosa were close, but that wasn't it. Jeremy and Rosa were the really close ones and Rosa and Elena only tolerated each other.
"Well, this should work, right Jer?" Elena asked as they entered the room.
"Yeah, doesn't really matter." He responded.
"It matters a little. It's so gross."
"Rosa, grow up. This place isn't even that bad." Elena said angrily. Everyone went silent and Jeremy watched his sisters and sighed. He thought they had been getting closer, not the opposite.
"Alright Whoopi, what do you need?" Damon asked as he closed the curtains. "Candles? Incense? Pottery wheel?"
"That's not how it works." Jeremy answered.
"I know, I know. They push from the other side and you pull from this one." Damon was annoyed, he just wanted a good joke.
"Alright, you uh—you got a picture of her?" Jeremy asked.
"Picture? What a trip to Disney land? Come on Rose, you're not gonna actually make us wait, are you? I know you're obsessed with me." Elena scoffed and the other two rolled their eyes.
"All right, uh—tell me something about her." Jeremy said as Damon sat on the edge of the bed.
"Um, well she does this little thing with her tongue." Damon starts.
"Gross." Rosa mutters under her breath.
"Something that matters, Damon." Elena told him. She was obviously irritated and Rosa could tell why. Damon had had a relationship with Rose, Elena's jealous. It was stupid.
"She spent her last day in paradise. Soaking in the sun and reminiscing about what it means to be human. And when death came, she didn't fear it." Damon had a frown on his face. Rosa could tell that Damon missed her.
"I was with her on her last day and she definitely wasn't in paradise." Elena commented.
"It was the dream he gave her. She's here." Rosa looked at Jeremy confused and tensed up. She didn't like the feeling of ghost possibly being right next to her. Damon looked around the room, disappointed he couldn't see her.
"Is she lonely on the other side?" Elena asked. They waited a moment for the answer.
"She says not to worry, she's happy." Jeremy suddenly smiled slightly. "Rosa, she wants you to relax." Everybody turns to Rosa whose shoulders were up by her ears and her eyes were wide. They waited for her to release her shoulders and nod softly.
"Is she still hot?" Damon asked. They all watch as Jeremy listens to an answer and his eyes widen and he stared where they all assume Rosa is standing.
"She misses you." Jeremy finally says. Jeremy suddenly feels uncomfortable about something that Rose must have said. "She uh—misses both of you." He says to Elena and Damon. "She was sired by someone named Mary Porter."
"Uh, scary Mary. Well, where is she, Rose?" Damon asked. They don't get an answer.

The year is 2152. Rune Yahui is a nineteen-year-old failure, not having gained entrance to college or the military, with no significant prospects in life. Even worse, Rune is the poorest of the poor, hailing from the mega-slums of New Southern Chicago, the lowest pit of America. In a desperate last-ditch attempt to gain a future more lustrous than toiling the rest of his days away in abhorrent conditions in one of the near sweat-shop level factories that dot the megapolis, Rune signs up for the Virtual Citizen program, a program to cull the excessive world population by transferring just their brains into a video game. In a stroke of rare luck, Rune is admitted into the program and happily submits himself to the surgery and digitization process. Unfortunately for him, he wakes up several hundred years later than he expected... or does he? **Author's Note** This isn't a type of story typical to RRL. You may have noticed LitRPG in the tags, but it's a relatively minor element in the story until later. You may also notice Slice of Life is in the tags. This story is going to be slow and there won't be any power tripping until way later if at all. The focus will be on character development. That doesn't mean I won't still have action/excitement, however. I encourage you to give the story a try. Maybe it will be your thing, maybe it won't. Thanks for even taking the time to read this, and if you do give my fiction a try, I hope you enjoy it. If you don't, well, I hope you find something that you do enjoy. Happy reading!

Essentia Animus
Second Book of the Soul - Celesi Veil Trilogy When the living essence of three girls are put at risk, giving room for a second essence within themselves, even their hyper developed fantasy world might not be enough to contain their new found ambitions. Another story of another world, these three girls must adapt to their new essence, all while each is left to question if they are truly still even alive. While this story is a sequel of the previous story in the trillogy, it is also fully capable of standing alone in its own light, taking place in a distant corner of a Celese returning readers will be otherwise incapable of recognizing. However, the events of the story are a spoiler for the previous book, in case that matters to anyone. This story takes place over two centuries after the events of Vitae Memorandum, when Celese had developed into an advanced world, improved to a point that it is much like modern-day Earth while still using the gift instead of technology. The Aethyx languages are still present in this book, and even English still exists in the world after the events of the previous book, but are much less of a focus after the same closing events of the previous book. What is instead important is how the ending events of the previous book had resulted in the start of the Instrumentation Era, and exactly how the gift translates in a modern-day sense. While this book is still effectively a fantasy world of its own kind of magic, it isn’t the classical medieval scene that would be typical for such a story. The laws of science still do not exist in Celese, but that didn’t stop it from developing into something that looks similar enough. Earth itself still remains present on the other side of the veil, and its previous exposure continues to shape and advance Celese into the world it has become. This story contains scenes exibiting mania and similar dark themes, as it goes to great length to explore concepts of life and death. While the degree of such themes should not be considered to be as serious compared to matters such as actual horror, the psychological depth is still siginifcant enough to be potentially concerning for people sensitive to matters of this nature, such as any individuals with concerns questioning matters of suicide, mental harm, or a variety of emotional injuries. While none of these subjects actually occur in the story, readers who are currently troubled by such matters may find themselves considering old wounds if they are especially capable of empathy while reading, which could lead to furthered emotional or mental stress. Readers with a high capacity for empathy may find themselves troubled by concerns regarding any potential lack of mental/emotional control as well as considerations regarding the meaning of death. Readers who appreciate subtle dark themes in a story may instead find this to be an interesting twist of the same idea.
