《The End》Part 11: The hardest part

Rosalina hadn't talked to anyone since Caroline's birthday...except Caroline. How could she talk to anyone. Jeremy was gone and she didn't even get to say goodbye, Elena and Alaric are the ones who made her leave, and Rosa didn't like nor talk to anyone else.
At least she didn't have to deal with anyone today. Elena left with Bonnie. Elena wouldn't say why. Alaric was hanging out with some girl he met. Rosa couldn't believe he had already moved on from Jenna. Caroline wasn't answering her phone either. She had no one to talk to and no where to go. Normally she would hang out with Jeremy, but he's gone. Before any of the vampire stuff happened she would hang out with her parents or call Jenna. Now she couldn't do either, ever again.
Later that day Caroline finally called Rosa back and explained that her dad was in town and was helping Tyler break his sire bond. It did not go well.
"Morning." Rosa heard her sister say to Alaric as she walked down the stairs. She's still been avoiding talking to either of them, but she knew she had to. That didn't mean she had to be nice.
"Thought we had aspirin." Alaric told her.
"They're in the vitamins." She said. Elena looked at the almost empty bottle of whiskey and empty glass sitting on the table. Rosa also noticed, but didn't bother to say anything. If anything she had blackmail for homework. "You're hungover." Elena stated.
"Yeah, sorry about that. It was a bit of a weird night." Rosa gagged, but neither paid attention. This was normal behavior for her. Something they've all had to get used to.
"I told you you don't have to feel guilty about inviting Meredith over here." Elena said.
"Yes he does." Rosa commented. The others ignored her and continued their conversation.
"Oh I know. And I thank you for that. But I do feel guilty for whiskey dialing her a 2 a.m." He admitted. Elena gasped while Rosa failed miserably at holding back her laughter.
"No you didn't." Elena said. She sounded like a middle school kid gossiping in the bathroom stalls.
"Oh, yes I did."
"Oh, was she cool about it?"
"Well, as soon as these aspirin kick in and I remember the conversation, I'll let you know." He said. Suddenly the doorbell rang. Rosa watched as Elena went to answer it. Sheriff Forbes was standing outside holding what Rosa knew to be an evidence bag. Elena walked out to the porch and Alaric and Rosa followed after her.
"Sheriff Forbes, hi. Is everything ok?" Elena asked. Rosa could see her sister was a little uneasy and a bit confused. So was she.
"This is an unconventional conversation we're about to have. So I hope you'll protect me on it." Sheriff Forbes told them.
"Of course." Alaric answered.
"I assume you all have heard our medical examiner was murdered the night of the Wickery Bridge fundraiser." Rosa did not know, but she didn't speak up because Elena and Alaric seemed to know.
"Yeah. Brian Walters. Why?" Alaric asked.

"We've been investigating. Someone drove this stake through his heart." She said holding up the bag. A bloodied stake laying in it.
"That's ones of ours. I mean this is one of a set from your parents lake house." Alaric said. Rosa looked at her sister and Alaric and sighed. Of course they lied. Her parents knew about vampires. When Rosa asked Elena this, she said she didn't know. She was a liar.
"That's why I'm here. I haven't told anyone but forensics ran it for prints and found only one clean set. Yours." Sheriff Forbes said looking at Elena sadly. Rosa looked at her sister in shock. Forgetting about her anger for a second. Her sister was not a murderer and she would not accept anyone saying differently. If anyone in the Gilbert family were to become a murderer, everyone though it would be Rosa.
"What?"
✰
After a while Elena decided to leave and Rosa went to walk around town. She used to walk around the town with Jenna all the time. She still does it, but it usually makes her sad now.
As she was walking around town her phone rang a number that was unknown. She looked around to see if anyone was watching her before picking up,
"Hello?" She asked.
"Rosalina." She heard his voice and sighed. She couldn't believe she had basically explained her jealousy of Elena to Klaus while she was drunk. She hated herself for it and wished she could take it back. She hated Klaus...she hates Klaus.
"Klaus." She mumbled.
"Glad to see you remember my voice. I just wanted to apologize for not seeing you like I promised." He told her, oddly cheerful.
"Don't worry, I didn't miss you." Rosa said, her voice sounding harsher than she had meant it to.
"Well that's a shame. I guess I'll have to remind you of why you like me again—"
"I don't." Rosa interrupted quickly. "Look I was drunk and I'm having a really, really bad day. I'm sorry...well not really, but I never should have talked to you in the first place so please leave me alone." She said.
"Wait, wait. Before you hang up why don't you tell me what's wrong. Why has your day been so horrible." Rosa didn't answer. She was about to hang up the phone when Klaus said, "I know you want someone to talk to. Might as well be me." Klaus could hear Rosa sigh on her end of the phone. E heard we walk over to a bench and sit down.
"Ok well, my sister had Damon compel my brother to move away. It's just we always got each other you know. We've always been super close and now he's gone and I didn't even get to say goodbye." She said. Rosa wasn't sure why she was telling Klaus all of this or why she was talking to him in the first place, but she was.
"I'm so sorry."
"Anyways, I found out my sister and Alaric lied to me. They said my parents didn't know about vampires, but apparently they had a stash of stakes so that's great." She mumbled, bitterness lining her voice. "But that's not important right now because Elena's fingerprints were found on a stake that murdered a human. So that's main priority right now I guess."

"I see."
"And now I'm walking around town by myself because I miss my...aunt." Suddenly Rosa hung up the phone and wiped her face. She hadn't even realized she was crying, but she quickly made sure she was no longer showing her tears to the public. She was on the phone with Jenna's murderer. He's a bad guy. That's all Rosa needed to tell herself to move on.
✰
Later that night Rosa was sitting on the couch watching Alaric put away all the weapons when Elena walked in.
"What are you doing?" She asked Alaric.
"Taking inventory. Did you bring it?"
"You mean, did I steal evidence from a crime scene? Yes." Rosa shook her head and let a scoff escape her. She turned her head away when Alaric and Elena looked at her. Elena handed Alaric a knife that was wrapped in cloth. He unwrapped the knife and studied it carefully.
"You're right. It's a match. This is from a crawl space in the foyer. Which means Meredith knew where it was." Alaric said.
"That doesn't mean she stole it." Elena said.
"Seriously Ric, blaming your new girlfriend or whatever for murder. What a gentlemen." Alaric showed the girls the other stakes.
"This is from the loft. These are from the duffel in Damon's car." Alaric told them.
"Identical to the one that killed Brian Walters." Rosa took a deep breath. Great, more murders that were somehow connected to her family...or family by weird ex-boyfriend extension. However Alaric was their family, his new girlfriend or whatever might be murdering people and pinning it on Alaric and Elena.
"Damon's car was at the Wickery Bridge fundraiser. So was Meredith. And that was the night her ex-boyfriend, the medical examiner, was killed. The one who called her psycho."
"Guess he was right." Rosa mumbled.
"Well, she was trying to save Bill Forbes, why would she turn around and try to kill him?" Elena asked.
"I don't know what to think either. You know, but...we'd be idiots to ignore all these facts."
"So what should we do?" Elena asked.
Alaric picked up the knife which gave Rosa an uneasy feeling. "Well...get this to the police. Then you should probably be with Caroline." Rosa lifted up her head and turned towards Elena.
"What happened with Caroline?" She asked.
"I'm sorry, Ric. Please be careful." Elena said ignoring Rosa. Rosalina rolled her eyes and followed Elena out the door as Elena picked up the life and left.
✰
The three girls were sitting on Caroline's front porch. They could all tell how upset Caroline was. On the way over to Caroline's, Elena had explained that Caroline's dad died with vampire blood in his system, but refused to drink blood.
"Did you hear back from Tyler yet?" Elena asked.
"No. And I've left messages for him everywhere. So, does Alaric really think that Dr. Fell did it?" Caroline asked her. Rosa assumed it was to steer the conversation away from her dad.
"He doesn't know what to think." Suddenly Rosalina's phone started ringing. The other girls turned to her as she sighed and shut it off.
"What about you?" Caroline asked Elena, ignoring the call.
"I wished the girl Alaric liked wasn't in the middle of all of this. He deserves to be happy. But yeah, she looks guilty. It's why I told your mom."
"She's definitely guilty." Rosa said. Her phone began to ring again and she quickly denied it. Both Elena and Caroline raised an eyebrow at Rosa. Caroline had a smirk on her face, but Rosa ignored it.
"My moms in there sitting with my dad. And I don't think they've been in the same room this long since I was 10 years old. Is there any chance that Tyler did it?" Caroline asked.
"What?"
"If Klaus was trying to mess with you and he's sired to Klaus. And, I mean, he does everything that he's told." Rosa looked down at her feet. Would Klaus do that?
"No...no, I don't think Tyler did it." Elena said.
"Me either." Rosa added.
"I can't just let my father die. You know, I'm...I'm gonna force him to feed." Caroline said. Rosa could see how shaken up Caroline was about this.
"Hey...he doesn't want to, Caroline. The only thing your dad has is his choice." Elena said.
"So what. He's not thinking straight, right? Caroline, you know what's right for him you should do it." Rosa said. Elena widened her eyes at her sister and shook her head.
"No, Caroline. It's not right. You had the choice taken away from you, you wouldn't want to take it away from your dad." Elena said.
Caroline began to cry. "I hated him so much for what he did to me. So much. Now all I want to do is save his life." She said in between tears.
"Of course you do, he's your dad." Elena said.
"What was the hardest part for you guys? When you post your dad?" Caroline asked.
Rosa thought for a minute. What was the hardest part? Knowing that he was never coming home. Knowing that Rosa would never get to make him proud. She never had the chance to be everything that he thought she could be. Never getting to have a late night talk while stuffing their faces with leftovers again. Rosa never realized how much she would miss her dad and how much she loved him until he was gone.
"Realizing all the things that he wouldn't be there for. The things that...that you just need your dad for, you know?" Elena scoots over to Caroline and hugs her softly. Caroline then turns towards Rosa who had been staring at the ground. "Rosa?"
"That hardest part of loosing my dad was...that I never got the chance to make him proud." She said, a tear slipping down her cheek.

The Dog with a Chair
As of now, this story is dropped. It was an excellent learning experience, but the quality suffered too much from me trying new things for me to continue in good concience. Thanks to anyone that read it. I'm leaving this story up as a record of my first ever attempt at publishing something I've wrote. To any new writers out there, remember that even if the stuff you write is trash, you can still learn a lot from writing it. - November 17th 2020 Guy gets involved in advocacy for civil engineering projects, then gets pulled into an interdimensional war. Third person with a focus on one main character (Stanley) with the occasional point of view from another character important to story progression. Writing style tends to shift early on as I figure out how to write (this is my first book). Still learning, hoping to improve. Current style choice is to have a focus on character dialogue/actions with interspersed internal monologue in italics. No current end is set for the story, with the primary goal of this project being to learn to express myself in a written format. Storyline is kept as consistent as practical while covering things I find interesting. Governmental systems are mentioned, but not explained in extreme detail. Sci fi elements are used to reinforce and guide plot progression as I'm able. Personal goals belonging to each character are in the process of being developed, with the hope that they will support or oppose each other in interesting ways later on. Hope you enjoy :)
