《The End》Part 1: Happy Birthday

Death isn't the end. Maybe not in mystic falls, but in Rosalina Gilbert's life death means death. And she's experienced a lot of it. Her parents, her uncle John, her Aunt Jenna and that's only in the past two years.

"Ah! Early. Bad!"

"Ah. It's not early. You're late, for work. Matt just called." Rosalina heard Elena and Jeremy from his room. She pulled the cover over her face knowing Elena would barge into her room soon enough as well.

"Well, maybe he'll fire me." Rosalina smiled slightly at her brothers comment. Why did he even need a job? It didn't make much sense.

"Aim high." Rosalina could hear Elena's footsteps getting closer and Rosalina did her best to pretend she was still asleep. "Hey Rosa, get up." No response. Elena sighed and yanked the blanket off of her sisters body.

"Not cool Elena." She said in a muffled voice as her head faced her pillow.

"Get up."

"No."

"Rosa."

"Don't you have some boyfriend to bug?" Rosalina regretted that the moment she said it. She knew Elena and Stefan had broken up or something, she actually wasn't really sure what happened.

"You know that me and Stefan—"

"Who said I was talking about Stefan? Last I checked you got along pretty well with both Salvatore brothers." Rosa smirked slightly at her insult, but it didn't even phase Elena. Elena was used to her sisters behavior.

"Grow up Rosa." She said before heading out the door. "And don't sleep all day!"

Rosalina groaned as she faced the light that brightened her bedroom. She hesitantly got up from her bed and picked out a dark blue shirt with a pair a jeans. She looked in the mirror and sighed. Rosalina and her sister looked a like, but they weren't identical. They had the same tan skin, dark eyes and straight brown hair, but Elena was always considered the pretty one. That's always been great for Rosa's self esteem.

Rosa left her room and decided to actually be a little social and head downstairs for breakfast.

"Ugh!" Elena said with a sigh.

"Was that uh...Stefan news?" Alaric asked as he was fixing the couch after another night of sleeping on it.

"Could be more Klaus victims." She admitted.

"You certain Stefans still with him?"

"Easy to be certain when the alternative is that he's dead." The two looked at each other for a moment before quickly turning their heads to see Rosa walking down the stairs. "Are you sure you're still ok on the couch?" Elena asked in order to change the subject. Rosalina always felt like people did this a lot whenever she came into the room, but she usually ignored it.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm good."

"Because you spent half the summer on it." Elena said before passing a cup of coffee to her sister who forced out a small smile. Elena smiled back knowing that was the best she was going to get. "If you need your own bedroom?"

"Eh, sleeping in your dead parents room or my dead...girlfriends room. Nah."

"You shouldn't be here at all." Rosa muttered under her breath so only Elena heard her. Elena in return shot her sister a deathly glance, but Rosa only rolled her eyes. She didn't understand why Alaric had to stay here. Did he not have a house? He and Jenna didn't even date that long, he is Rosa's history teacher, she's failing by the way and he's a constant reminder that her Aunt Jenna was dead.

"Alright, got it." Elena said before beginning to walk away.

"Hey girls." Alaric stopped her. The twins turned to him. "Happy birthday."

"Thanks." Elena responded. Rosalina on the other hand rolled her eyes. Alaric knew that Rosa didn't like him and he understood why. He was failing her, but that was technically her fault. He was dating her Aunt and they got into a lot of fights. And the same reason Jenna had problems with Alaric, Rosa knows he's keeping secrets from her along with everyone else in this town.

Later that day Elena, Caroline, and Tyler were setting up for a the party that Caroline was apparently planning. Rosalina was sitting on the couch on her phone, not paying much attention. She didn't want a party which didn't matter much since it wasn't for her, it was for Elena of course. Elena and Caroline both said that the party was for Rosa and Elena, but Rosalina and Caroline weren't really friends and it's easy to throw a party and just say it's for two people when it wasn't supposed to be.

"I feel like I have to fight Damon every single time we get a lead on Stefan." Elena said. Rosalina didn't think much of it. For all she knew was that Stefan and Elena had some sort of breakup and Stefan just left out of nowhere. Rosalina also didn't get why Elena was looking for him if he didn't want to be found. They broke up, so what. Go date Damon, he's totally into her. Rosalina hardly talked with the Salvatore's much, but she knew she definitely didn't like Damon. Stefan wasn't that bad until now. Even if her and her sister didn't get along, Rosa still loved Elena and of a boy broke her heart, they didn't deserve her.

"Maybe he doesn't want to find him." Tyler suggested.

"Tyler!" Caroline shouted which made Rosa look up at the three.

"What? He's into you, isn't he?"

"The only reason Stefan left with Kl—" Suddenly Elena stopped talking and looked at Rosalina who was now paying attention to the conversation. "W-was because we broke up." She added. Caroline quickly caught on, but Tyler looked very confused. Rosa eyes them, wondering what they were lying about this time.

"But you kissed him?" Rosa shot up from her seat and Caroline was glaring at Tyler.

"You what!" Rosalina shouted at her sister, but Elena remained silent.

"Probably screwed with his head." Tyler added.

"Tyler!" Caroline screamed once more. She then turned to Elena and said, "I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about it. Look, yes I kissed him, but it was a...it was a goodbye kiss. I thought he was gonna die."

"What? Why?" Rosa interrupted. Elena's eyes widened realizing she said something wrong.

"Uhm, he hurt himself. Bad. Had to go to the hospital." Elena lied and it was clear that Rosa was not buying it.

"You think I'm an idiot don't you? Look I've got to go." Rosalina said, before walking out the door. No one bothered to go after her, instead Elena went to call Bonnie and Caroline and Tyler continued to talk about the party.

That night Rosalina was hanging out at the party by herself. Who goes to their own party and doesn't talk to anyone? Someone with no friends. She didn't know where Elena was. She assumed somewhere with Damon.

Suddenly Rosa saw Elena and Damon walk in together, as people came up to Elena, wishing her a happy birthday. She watched as Damon stole a bottle of alcohol from some girl and Caroline was talking to them. Rosa smiled when she saw her brother hanging out with Matt.

"Hey Jer." Rosa said as she walked up to her brother and Matt. "Seriously, aren't you supposed to be a good influence or whatever?" She said with a sigh.

"Nah, I've given up." Matt replied.

"It's fine Rosa, I've done it before."

"That does not help your case." She told Jeremy before patting him on the back. "You're lucky I'm not Elena or you would be dead." The two smiled for a moment. Rosa and Jeremy had always been the closer siblings. Elena was just so perfect and Rosa and Jeremy...weren't.

They were talking for a little until Elena and Caroline came into the room. Matt left which was annoying. He was still so in love with Elena it was sad.

"Poor Matt, he's so in love." Rosa said with a smirk.

"He'll be fine." Jeremy replied. "Happy birthday by the way." He said. Rosalina smiled softly at her brother.

"Oh are you sure you're talking to me? I think you meant happy birthday Elena, it's ok. Mistakes happen. Don't worry she's right over there, but I think there's a line to go talk to the birthday girl." She said.

"Shut up." Jeremy said nudging his sister slightly. "She doesn't do it on purpose. People just like her more than you." Rosa opened her mouth wide. She wasn't sure if she should laugh or cry.

"That was harsh, dude." She decided to laugh.

"Truth hurts."

"Wow, you're supposed to be nice to me. You're my little brother."

"Nope, from now on we're just cousins who don't talk to each other." Jermey suddenly fell quiet remembering that Rosa doesn't know she's adopted. Yet another thing that Elena decided not to tell her.

"What does that even mean? I think that might be the stupidest thing you have ever said." She said while laughing.

"Yeah...I'm high." Jermey responded. Rosalina sighed and leaned her head on her brothers shoulder.

"Don't you ever get sick of it?"

"Get sick of what?"

"The Elena show."

"No, I think someone needs to stop being jealous." Rosa shrugged and walked away from her brother to go get a drink. And another. And another. Anything to make this night stop.

Later that night Elena had to help Rosa leave after she got super drunk. When they walked through the door Rosa almost fell after Elena forgot to steady her.

"What are you doing?" She asked Alaric. The girls watched as he was packing his stuff.

"Ahh, I'm not going to stay here anymore." He said.

"Yay." Rosa mumbled. The two looked at her for a moment before focusing on their conversation again.

"What? Why?" Elena asked.

"I'm not a role model. You know, I drink too much, I say the wrong things. You know, I encourage bad behavior. At school I can pull it together, but in my own life...You know, the way I miss Jenna, it's just, I'm really not any good to anybody right now. I'm sorry, Elena...and Rosa. You're eighteen. You can do all this alone now. You can do it better without me."

Elena watched as Alaric left.

"Ok, let's get you to bed." She said to her sister.

"Sorry Lena." She mumbled softly. "Happy Birthday."

"Happy Birthday." Elena mumbled back. She brought her sister to her room and helped her get ready.

"Thanks Lena."

"Yup."

"Please don't tell mom and dad. Or Jenna." Rosa said. Elena looked at Rosa sadly, but tried to force a smile.

"Don't worry, I won't."

"Thanks."

"No problem and when you sober up, Jermey got you a card." She said looking at the card.

When Elena got into her room she sighed. A soft smile on her face when she saw a birthday card similar to Rosa's from Jermey. She got ready for bed and was in the bathroom when she heard her phone ring. She walked over to it and answered, but no one spoke.

"Hello? Hello? Stefan? Stefan, if this is you, you'll be okay. I love you Stefan. Hold onto that. Never let that go." No one spoke.
