《The Alpha's Human Mate》Chapter 48 He Knows

Xavier's POV
My wolf wouldn't stop clawing at the barrier in my mind, demanding to be let out so that he could go and find out mate before she tried to reject us.
I was walking back to the packhouse, knowing that I wouldn't be able to control my wolf if I shifted and ran there.
I could feel the worry starting to build up and spill over through the pack link with Ivy, Grayson, Brad and Audrey. This only made me walk faster until I was basically sprinting to the house.
"Alpha," various wolves bowed their heads as I walked past them. You could tell that they were all slightly afraid of me right now and their inner wolves were cowering.
Brad was the first to greet me when I walked into the packhouse. "Alpha, Mrs. Avery is upstairs in your office waiting. She says that she hasn't seen the Luna since the gym opening ceremony. There were no strange scents inside the house, and the Luna's scent was also fading." His face was hard, but I could still see the panic and worry behind his eyes.
"And Mr. Thomas?" I asked already making my way to the staircase.
"He's with Audrey and your parents in the conference room, the pack doctor is also there looking over his injuries," Brad explained.
"Injuries?" I echoed confused. "What kind of injuries could a pack elder get from a human?" This wasn't making sense at all. Addison had barely gotten stronger since I marker her, there's no way that she would be able to actually injury a wolf. I mean, sure she could scratch us, but that would heal in seconds and the pack doctor wouldn't need to come at all for that.
"Audrey mind linked the pack doctor to come here and make sure Mr. Thomas was ok," Brad said. "She said something about wanting to make sure."
Audrey was Mr. Thomas on the spot. Making sure that his story was adding up, which it didn't feel like it was.

"I'll speak with Mrs. Avery first," I informed Brad as I stopped in front of my office door. "Mind link me right away when Ivy and Hunter get back."
Brad looked confused at my request but didn't question it. "Yes, Alpha."
I closed and locked the office door behind me, luckily it was soundproof so no one would be able to listen in.
"Have you found her?" Mrs. Avery asked me at once. Her eyes were red-rimmed and she was clutching a few tissues in her hands.
"We have our best hunters and trackers out right now looking for her," I said.
"No one's told me anything, Brad just burst through my front door asking about Addie and when I told him that she wasn't here he checked the whole house before demanding that I come with him at once back to the packhouse," She explained. "Even in the human world someone crashing into your house, it isn't a good thing."
"Mrs. Avery-"
"-Sandra," she corrected me. "You're my daughter's soulmate, call me Sandra please."
"Sandra," I corrected myself dropping into the empty chair beside her. "You said that your grandma, Addie's great-grandma was adopted into a werewolf pack, correct?"
"Yes, she was adopted by a werewolf couple, but she herself was a human and didn't have a werewolf soulmate. Addison is the first in the family to have one. But what does this have to do with her missing?"
"It's complicated," I said lightly. "But I believe that it might be one of the reasons that Addie is missing right now."
"Xavier," Mrs. Avery looked me dead in the eyes. "Be completely honest with me right now, please. I've already lost my husband, I can't lose my daughter too. So whatever it is, I can take it. Nothing is too crazy."
"When did you leave that pack? I know that you mentioned that you grew up there, but when did you leave?"
"I was young, my dad, Addie's grandpa was a police officer and he got transferred out to Arizona. But even then, my mom moved just outside of the pack, my grandma left for college and never really came back, I mean, sure, she went back, but not that much."

Before I could ask another question Brad was mind-linking me.
"Alpha," his voice flowed into my mind. "Both Ivy and Hunter just arrived, would you like for me to send them up?"
"Yes, thank you."
I quickly crossed to the door and unlocked it for Ivy and Hunter to slip through the door and then locked it behind them.
Hunter was covered in caked-on mud and even had a few stray leafs in his hair. "Her scent was placed," he says right away. "I went to Mr. Thomas' house first, and it was all over, but then I followed the trail ou to the forest and the border and I could barely even tell, but the Luna's scent was placed. The last location it was truly was at his house."
I could hear Mrs. Svery suck in a deep breath and then her heart speed up.
I nodded my head as he spoke, my heart was dropping to the bottom of my stomach. "Could you pick up who placed her scent?"
"No," Hunter said sadly. "Whoever did it knew what they were doing, the only way I could even tell that it was placed there was because when I compared it to the one at the house it was fainter. And if the Luna really did run away, then the one at Mr. Thomas' house would be fainter, not the other way around. Whoever did it placed her scent before she went missing."
"Good work, Hunter," I managed to push out.
"I talked with Miss. Edith, the elder that lives across from Mr. Thomas and she says that she saw him going for a walk this morning, which apparently he never does," Ivy cut in. "But what makes it weirder is that she says Mr. Thomas never anywhere only, he was too scared, but all of a sudden he was ok?"
"That is weird, Hunter agreed. "Especially because we've never had a real attack in the pack before. The borders are strong and we have a lot of allies who would let us know if there was any mummer of attack."
"Well, he wasn't born into the Midnight Moon pack," I shrugged. "His pack got attacked and he fled for safety, my grandfather let him in," I told Ivy and Hunter.
And then it hit me.
"Ivy you said that he was always weird with you when you were doing your beta female training, right?" I asked.
"Yeah," she confirmed. "Always saying that I needed to be on the lookout for an attack and to never let my guard down."
"That's because his pack was attacked and he was the only survivor. . ."
". . . and he hates humans," Ivy finished for me.
"Sandra," I spun on my heels to face Addison's mom. "What pack did you say your grandma was from again?"
"The Blue Moon pack, in Colodero."
"That's the same as Mr. Thomas," I confirmed. "That was his pack that got attacked."
"And when he left to go look for that human girl, he went to Colorado. I remember him telling me, he said that the clues would be there."

A Litrpg apocalypse
Join Aya as her world will be changed forever by the advance of a so-called System and where she will need to keep herself and the ones she cares about safe when the world goes to a different kind of hell than it was already heading to! The story will feature a stubborn and sometimes just plain weird female MC and those she cares about. Edit 02-03-22First mini arc is completed, am working on the second part. Note: this is my first time writing a Litrpg and the second time I tried to write a story which contains more than a few pages. So please bear with me and feel free to offer suggestions, positive criticism, and the like in the comments. A note’s note: the Litrpg part will be, especially in the beginning, slow going. While I like to think this story is going to be a Litrpg, it will not focus heavily on the mechanics. And finally, a note-like note of a note: English is not my native language and only me, myself and Word grammar check have looked at the text. If you see a horrible affront to the English language, please let me know. Enjoy!
