《The Alpha's Human Mate》Chapter 42 Mr. Thomas' Threats

Xavier had told me very little about the elders of the pack, saying that it was awfully rare for them to ever really show themselves if it wasn't an important pack event.
I had heard Mr. Thomas' name come up a few times before. Mostly when Xavier and his dad were discussing pack matters and I was thinking about all the homework that I still needed to do. Which, by the way, was a lot of homework, but apparently being luna didn't give me a free pass sadly.
I was very grateful for the cool breeze that was blowing in the trees at this moment. I felt like I was on fire underneath his view and like I was back to sweating through my dress.
"Xavier talks very highly of you, Mr. Thomas," I offered him a wide smile hoping that I would be able to butter him up.
"Xavier is a fine young man, and I'm sure that he will make a great alpha and leader of our pack. Just like his father, and his father before him," Mr. Thomas said in a flat tone.
"Yes," I agreed. "Mr. Black is a great man."
"The Balck family has been watching and ruling over the Midnight Moon Pack for many decades now, Miss. Avery. Their family name is widely respected in our community, packs all around the world, in every corner of the globe have heard of the mighty Black family," Mr. Thomas continued on in the same flat, deadly serious voice.
"It's a great honour to now be part of such a legacy," I said in a tight voice. I wasn't sure where he was going with this, but so far I didn't like it. "Any helpful advice or wise words you may have and can share with me, I would greatly appreciate them."
"You want my advice, Miss. Avery? On how you can help to better and grow the Midnight Moon Pack?" A small, thin-lipped smile began to creep up and take over his face.
"Yes, Sir. . ."
Mrs. Black had told me that the pack elders were beyond wise and highly respected. She mentioned that when she became luna a few of them gave her some advice that she still held close to her heart to this day. Cecelia also said the same thing, that the pack elders were like a sort of grandparents who always wanted the best for the pack and for you.

"Leave."
"Sorry?" I asked Mr. Thomas wide-eyed, not sure if I heard him right.
"I said leave," Mr. Thomas repeated. Nope, I heard him right the first time. "If you want to help the Midnight Moon pack grow stronger and better the best thing you can do is leave. Leave this pack and Xavier to find a better, stronger luna who isn't just some simple, weak human girl." Even though he didn't raise his voice at me, I still felt the furry and venom behind his words.
"Is this meant to be a test?" I asked him. "Some sort of pack trial to see if I really can be luna? Because if so, I think someone forgot to mention it to me.Maybe just with everything that happened it slipped Xavier's mind"
"You're weak, Miss. Avery," Mr. Thomas counties to talk, ignoring me completely. "You're a human that can't take care of herself, and puts this pack in danger because of it."
"I can assure you that I never wanted any of the pack to get hurt because of me," I said quickly. "If I could have stopped Mr. Dvais and his little gang of jerks from doing that I would!"
"You should have been more careful. You stupid humans bring nothing but pain and heartache with you, both of which the Midnight Moon pack does not need in the slightest."
"I think this conversation is over now," I spit out at Mr. Thomas and turned on my heels ready to walk away from him and tell Xavier exactly what just happened.
"This conversation is over when I say it is over!" Mr. Thomas raised his voice to yell at my turned back.
I felt the hairs on the back of my neck rise. Surely someone would hear this conversation and come running to see what the matter was.
"They can't hear us," Mr. Thomas said reading my mind. "I put an enchantment around his tom ake sure that this conversation stays between us. And if you know what's good for you Miss. Avery, you won't breathe a word of this to anyone, after all," I could almost hear the smirk in his voice as he spoke. "You would take the word of some silly, little, weak human girl over a highly respected pack elder?"
I could feel all the colour drain my body, only to be replaced by utter and complete dread. My heart was beating widely inside my chest and my hands grew cold and clammy.

Mr. Thomas was right, who would believe me over him? He'd been in this pack for how many years? And I just showed up one day and then got kidnapped and put the pack in danger.
But Xavier told me that none of it was my fault, that I didn't force anyone to fight. That everyone who was out there to save me from Mr. Davis had volunteered for it -- all wanting to help save and get back their future luna.
"I've known and been a close advisor with the Black family for longer than you'll ever be alive, Miss. Avery, and judging by how reckless and ill-mannered you are, I don't expect that you'll be alive much longer."
Was Mr. Thomas saying that he was going to kill me?
"Are you threatening me?" I spit out spinning back around to face him.
"It's good to know that you've finally caught on," Mr. Thomas said brightly. "Now it would do both you and your mother well to listen to me and leave before something awful happens to you."
My mouth fell open slightly at his words. He was going to hurt my mom if I didn't leave.
Some small part of me still didn't want to believe this, that Mr. Thomas, a well respected and loved pack elder, was telling me that I was a weak, stupid, little girl that needed to leave before he killed me.
"Now," Mr. Thomas waved his left hand in the air like he was whipping down a window. "Thank you for taking your time to speak with me, Addison. I greatly appreciate it and hope that you will take my words to heart." His voice changed to softy and cheery.
He had just taken down the enchantment obviously and was now playing like we had a nice conversation and not like my life was back in danger.
Mr. Thomas flashed me one last fake, deadly smile and then walked right past me, bumping my shoulder slightly as we went.
I couldn't get my feet to move and carry me away from here. All I wanted right now was to be wrapped up in Xaiver arms away from all of this.
Things seemed to be going so well at first after I moved, but now I wanted to be back in the Arizona sun where no one was trying to kill, or kidnap, or run me out of town. I just wanted to be normal again. I wanted my biggest worry to be my dry skin and homework -- not being in charge of a pack that was slowly killing me on the inside.
I felt sick to my stomach as I slowly made my way back to Xavier. When I rounded the corner of the new gym I saw him standing there laughing with Mr. Thomas.
I could throw up right now. Seeing my mate laughing with the person who just said that they kill me. But Mr. Thmas was right, he had known Xaiver since he was a kid. Xavier grew up with him and loved him. What could I do to make him believe me?
I took a deep breath in and plastered a fake smile onto my face as I walked over to Xavier.
"Hey," I greeted softly.
"I'll leave you two be," Mr. Thomas said. "Oh to be young and in love again; oh, and Addison? I do hope that you will take what I said into consideration?" He didn't drop that awful smile from his face as he spoke and I wanted to so badly just slap it off of him.
I didn't trust myself to talk to him without yelling or crying so I gave him a tight nod instead.
"See you later Mr. Thomas," Xavier said waving as he walked away.
Xavier grabbed one of my hands in his and placed a soft kiss on each of my knuckles before kissing my forehead. "How was it?"
"It was great," I lied through my teeth. "Sio glad that I got to meet and speak with Mr. Thomas.
