《The Alpha's Human Mate》Chapter 35 Meeting The Parents

Xavier asked me to come over for dinner tonight but forgot to mention that it would be a family dinner. As I'm not just me and him eating way too much junk food, but him, his sister and his parents.

Yes, you saw that right. His parents. Mr. And Mrs. Black. His parents who I have never met yet, but was absolutely terrified of meeting.

I mean, who wouldn't be scared to meet their boyfriend or girlfriend's, parents? I am sincerely jealous of anyone that is not.

So right now, I had my cell phone pressed against my ear with I used my other hand to lock my front door behind me when Xavier casually mentioned that his parents would be there.

"Yeah, my mom's doing just some casual appetizers tonight so it'll be just a small thing."

"What? Why is your mom making dinner?"

"Because it's a family dinner and she always cooks when it's family dinner?" Xavier laughed.

"Family dinner?" I repeated. "What do you mean it's a family dinner?"

"I told you-"

"No!" I exclaimed into my phone, cutting Xavier off right away. "No, you did not! Because of you did then I wouldn't be wearing sweatpants and an oversized stained t-shirt! I also would have actually spent time getting ready and not just have watched Netflix all day!" Ok, I was freaking out.

I mean, I looked like a mess right now. And not even a hot mess. Just a mess.

"Surprise?" Xavier tried to come off excited but really it just sounded more like a question.

I quickly pushed the front door back open, letting it swing closed behind me as I kicked my shoes off before running up the stairs and into my bedroom for a decent outfit that didn't make me look like a slob.

"I'm going there a tunnel," I said making awful static noises. "I'm losing you."

"Addison there are no tunnels in town," I could hear the confusion in Xavier's voice and picture the frown on his lips. "Wait!—"

"Can't talk—cutting out— going to be late— you suck—" I muffled my phone speaker and quickly hung up.

But not before hearing Xavier yell out, "Addison!—"

I tossed my phone onto my unmade bed and pulled the oversized t-shirt over my head and tossed it somewhere on my floor.

I opted for a cute, simple, lilac long-sleeved cardigan button-up top, and a pair of high-waisted dark blue jeans. Simple, classy and perfect for meeting the parents.

The next step was my hair. Right now it was pulled back in a messy ponytail, with babysits sticking up in every which direction. I quickly ripped the hair tie out and yanked a brush through my hair to try and tame it a little. Luckily the hair-tie didn't leave one of those awkward lines, so my hair still fell in its natural waves and with a little help from some anti-frizz spray, I was able to make it look good.

I had already washed my face before leaving, so all I needed to do was put on a little mascara and I was good to go. My skin wasn't amazing, but it also wasn't the worst either.

I slipped my phone into my back pocket, rushing back down the stairs and grabbing the beautiful, fresh, bouquet that my mom had just brought home.

My mom would kill me if I showed up to the Black's empty-handed. So it was worth taking the flowers, I could always get her new ones.

I slipped on a pair of black, heeled booties and rushing out the door like my house was on fire.

I made it to Xavier's house in record time, making sure to keep one arm half thrown over the flowers so they wouldn't get squished. Showing up late was one thing, but showing up late with ugly, squashed flowers was a whole other leave of embarrassment topped with netting the parents that I didn't want to experience.

Normally I would just walk into the house without knocking, Xavier's parents spent most of their time at the packhouse as of late so I haven't run into them yet. But right now I wanted to make the best first impression I could, I rang the doorbell once and stepped back, the flowers clutched tightly at my side.

"I'll get it!" I heard Cecelia yell followed by a crash before the front door swung open to reveal her.

"Hi," I breathed out. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.

"I overheard Xavier on the phone," Cecelia said making a face of disgust as she pulled the door open wider and ushers me in. "I tried to hit him over the head with a pan but my parents said no."

"Thanks for trying," I muttered.

Cecelia was wearing a cute, dark grey, sweater dress with a pair of sheer, black tights underneath and her hair pulled pack in a loose, curly ponytail with some strands framing her face.

"Come on, before he does anything else stupid," Cecelia laughed.

I could hear the sound of pots and pans clanking together and light chatter flowing through the house as I got closer to the kitchen. As soon as I rounded the last corner I saw Xavier sitting at the kitchen island, rubbing the back of his head and an older version of Cecelia waving a plastic spoon around in the air with an angry expression.

Maybe I should have faked sick and just stayed home.

"You may be the future alpha of this pack but that doesn't excuse you from being so dumb and not telling your mate about tonight," the lady, whom I assuming is Mrs. Black yelled at Xavier. "If your father ever did that to me when we were dating I would have never spoken to him again."

"Good thing that Addison is a saint for putting up with him," Cecelia announced loudly pushing past me and walking into the kitchen.

Mrs. Black's Reyes snapped in Cecelia's direction, immediately skimming past her and landing on me.

"You must be Addison!" She exclaimed dropping the spoon onto the counter and walking over to me with open arms.

Mrs. Black had dark brown hair that came down to just above her shoulders and framed her face perfectly. She was wearing a pair of black jeans and a white blouse with a green and grey checkered apron over top.

She completely ignored the flowers in my arms and pulled me into a bone-crushing hug. "It's so nice to finally meet you! Xavier wouldn't ever stop talking about you."

"It's lovely to meet you too, Mrs. Black," I smiled politely at her before handing over the now slightly flattened flowers. "There were for you. . ."

"Oh, they're lovely! Thank you so much, honey," she took the flowers from my hands and walked them over to the sink to fill up a vase with water. "And it's Kathy, Mrs. Black is my mother-in-law."

Xavier stood up from his chair to come to press a quick kiss to my lips but I pushed him away before he could. "No way," I scoffed. "I'm still not happy with you. I mean, who forgets to tell their girlfriend that they're netting the parents tonight?"

"I like her," a deep voice rang out into the room.

I quickly spun around in my heel to see what looked like a greying Xavier is kakis and a light blue polo. A total dad outfit for (whom I guessing) Mr. Black.

"But I don't like you right now," Mr. Black pointed at his son. "Your mom told me what you did and I'm on her side."

"Of course," Xavier muttered bitterly as he sank back down into the bar stool.

"You must be our future Luna, Addison," Mr. Black held his hand out to me.

I swear I could have passed away right there on the spot. Mr. Black was well over six feet tall and well built, I could see a few black ink swirls poking out from underneath his polo and the veins about to pop on his neck.

"Yes sir," I stammered. "It's a pleasure to met you, Mr. Black." I placed my hand in his and felt it get completely enveloped as he shook it with way, way too much strength.

"You're family! Call me Tom," Mr. Black, I mean Tom, smiled at me. "And anyone that can put my son in place is always welcome here."

I felt the stress lift from my shoulders, a sense of peace replacing it.

I slid into the seat beside my sulking mate, nudging him with my shoulder and offering a smile that said 'I'm-still-mad-at-you-but-I-also-love-you'.

"Is Hunter going to join us?" I asked Cecelia as she began to lay out six plates for dinner.

"Well someone is going to have to revive Xavier after mom beats him to death with her good copper pans tonight," she laughed.

"Don't be dramatic Cecelia," Kathy rolled her eyes at her daughter setting a mixed bowl of greens into the dining room table. "I would never use my good copper pans — I'd use the old ones that I don't care about."

"Love you too, mom," Xavier said pulling me closer to his side.

The rest of dinner went way better than I could have ever expected. Tom and Kathy were the best parents-in-law that I could ever ask for, they were beyond nice, and didn't judge me at all for being human and the future Luna of the pack. (Something I was very, very nervous about).

"So," Kathy said once we had all finished the delicious strawberry cheesecake she made for dessert. "When am I getting grandkids after the ceremony next weekend?"

I was mid-way through chewing my last bite of cake when I started to choke on it.

"Maybe it is a good thing I came," Hunter laughed after slapping me on the back a few times to stop me from dying.

"You should have just let me choke," I mumbled after I was finally done wheezing for air.
