Clips of the Final Battle from Rise of the Spinjitzu Master are shown as an old film reel.

"The ultimate battle. The battle that would end all battles. It feels like ages ago. After the Golden Ninja defeated the Overlord, much of Ninjago City was in ruin. It was a time to reflect on our past, and build for our future."

A photo of the Ninja and their allies is shown in the Ninjago City paper. Reconstruction of the city is now underway.

"Ninjago City soon became New Ninjago City. And it became the center of great technological advancements. But without an enemy to fight, the age of the Ninja came to an end"

The scene switches to a bathroom where Jay is seen holding a camera in a mirror reflection while Kai is heard scatting. The scatting stops. Kai is taking a shower and noticed Jay "Hey! How about a little privacy, you—? "

The clip stops; Kai is in a classroom wearing a suit and operating a film projector "Whoa! This isn't supposed to be in here. Lights please!" Students begin giggling as he can't turn off the projector.

"Ugh! Seriously? " Kai complained

A student ran in "Come quick! Mr. Zane's on the fritz!"

Students are laughing as Zane is shorting out.

"What's going on here?" Cole questioned as he came in

"Brad got an ultra remote from New Ninjago City and it's controlling Mr. Zane" A student replied

Cole ends up smashing the remote, and Zane stops.

"Mr. Cole is the worst" A kid complained

"I heard that" Cole growled, a bell rings and the kids run out, bumping Cole out of the way "Ah, recess. My favorite time"

Darkley's Boarding School has been bought by the Ninja and renamed Master Wu's Academy. Some students are laughing in the yard while the 4 Ninja went in the teacher's lounge.

Jay sighs "All right! Who took my pudding cup? My name was clearly written on it"

"I didn't see "Motor Mouth" on it" Cole said finishing the pudding

"I'm telling the headmaster" Jay said

"Leave me out of it. I'm on break, too" Wu called from the next room

"Relax, Jay, you can have mine" Kai said throwing his to Jay

"But this isn't cold" Jay whined and Zane flips a switch in his arm and freezes the cup "Oh, give me. Mm. Is anyone else chapped that Lloyd gets to be the Golden Ninja and fly around accepting awards while we're stuck here being teachers with no powers? Ah. I miss our elemental weapons."

"Why is it that when I teach none of the boys are listening? They're just fooling around" Nya whined

Aria walked in.

"All my boys are well behaved" Aria said "They look right at me while I'm teaching"

"Yeah that's because they all think your hot" Nya mummbled

"Oh uh hey Aria" Kai said blushing

Aria smiled "Good afternoon Kai, how was your morning classes?"

"Uh fine" Kai said sitting down next to Jay, avoiding looking at her

"Hey, did you guys hear the news?" Nya questioned

The ninjas jumped up.

"There's trouble?"

"Danger?"

"An emergency?"

"Oh, a new menace?"

"My boyfriend's back?"

"No. We got clearance for a field trip" Nya said happily and the others groan

"Not just any field trip. A field trip to tour Borg Industries" Nya said

"Ah! Not the Borg Industries. As in home to super genius reclusive savant Cyrus Borg? Inventor of the hover car and everything else cool in this world?" Jay said

"Who cares about Cyrus Borg?" Aria questions annoyed

Kai nodded "If you ask me, people should concern themselves with the lessons of the past. Not waste their time on the disposable fads of tomorrow when—"

The next day everyone was bording the bus.

Brad whined "Why can't we take Ultra Dragon? Or the Ultra Sonic Raider?"

"Because they don't have one of these" Cole said taking the bus mic "Pretty cool, huh? I'm on a microphone. I am the MC. The Mighty Cole"

"Mr. Cole is the worst" Brad said

Cole growled "I heard that"

"So we really are going back to the city. We haven't been there since, well, you know" Kai questioned

"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We only have today. Or else this offer expires. Get a move on, Nya" Wu instructed

"Aye, aye, Sensei" Nya said starting up the bus

Aria sat next to Kai on the bus.

"So any word from Lloyd?" Kai asked

Aria sighed "Not really, every once in awhile i get a call from him asking how I am, but after a bit he says he loves me and leaves"

"Having a relationship with a boyfriend that's not around must be hard" Kai said

"He'll be back, we may be apart for now but distance means so little when someone means so much" Aria smiled

"Nicely said" Kai said smiling as well

Everyone looked around at the new futuristic ninjago.

Nya sighed "Wow. You leave town a short while and—Ahh!"

Nya accidentally crashes the bus straight into the postman's hover truck.

"Ugh! Who here still uses wheels anymore? Get with the program!" he shouted

Cole went out of the bus "Don't worry, we'll free you up. Time for some old-school muscle tool"

A Borg Industries Security Mech arrives "Stand back, pedestrian"

"Who you calling pedestrian?" Cole questioned annoyed and the rest of the ninjas come out of the bus

"It appears our help is not welcome" Zane said

" Well, I prefer traveling the old-fashioned way, on foot. Besides, it's not like we can't find where we're going." Wu said

As they started walking Aria suddenly stopped and looked behind her.

"What's wrong?" Kai asked

"something doesn't feel right" Aria said confused, she then hissed in pain and held her head

"Aria what's wrong?" Wu asked worried

"My head hurts, you guys go ahead" Aria replied

"Are you sure?" Zane asked

"yeah, I'm fine" Aria answered smiling

Aria looked around as everything was turning dark, all of the robots eyes were red.

"Oh no" Aria quickly ran to see the ninjas using weird weapons to hack jets and stuff.

Cole manages to defeat the Security Mech and hacks it with his Techno Blade, making it the Earth Mech. Jay invades a tank and hacks it, making it the Thunder Raider. Kai jumps on Zane's copter and hacks an enemy airplane, making it the Kai Fighter and reaching the atmosphere.

While he was flying, Cyrus Borg gives him a virtual message saying that a few weeks ago they discovered that a virus, the Digital Overlord, had infiltrated their system. He also says that they have to get the Techno Blades out of the city because if he finds out that they have them, he will never let them leave. After that, Kai lands to pick up Wu, but they get surrounded by Security Mechs.

"There's too many! We'll never get out!" Cole shouted

"Keep fighting. They'll have to run out of batteries at some point" Jay said

Aria dodged another robot "I don't think that's how they work Jay"

Lloyd arrives on the Golden Dragon and blasts the robots "Robots versus Ninja? Heh. Dare I ask?"

"Lloyd" Aria said happily

"You are a sight for sore eyes" Kai said happily

The Overlord appears on the screens around them

"So you couldn't help yourself. The Golden Ninja, we meet again" The Overlord says

"Daddy" Aria said annoyed

Lloyd took off his mask "Overlord. I defeated you once, I'll defeat you again"

"Oh, I don't want to fight. I just want your power" the Overlord laughs evilly as the robots stand up powered by Lloyd's golden energy he shot at them

Lloyd powered up but Wu stopped him "No, Lloyd, your power is only making them stronger"

"But how do we fight?" Lloyd asked

"We don't. We need to get you and the Techno Blades out of the city" Kai replied

"I don't think he'll let us leave" Cole said

"I can fight" Aria said

"That gives me an idea, but I don't have much time to explain. Listen close" Wu instructed

As the Ninja get back into the vehicles and race to leave the city, Overlord spots that Wu and Aria are getting away with the Techno Blades.

"Get me those techno blades and capture my daughter!" The Overlord shouted

As the copters go after them Aria took out her fans, she powered them up and send blades of energy at them, cutting them in half.

"Good job" Wu complementing "haven't given up training have you?"

"Not a chance" Aria replied

"Stay safe" Wu said before they jumped down and Wu stopped at the building above alone.

Wu reveals he doesn't have the blades.

"No, No! No! Where are the Blades!?! Where is Aria!?!" The Overlord shouted angrily

Upon rewinding the footage, the Overlord sees that Wu quickly dropped Techno Blades into Kai's Fighter below him as Aria jumped in. The Ninja safely got out of the city with the blades, while Wu is captured by Overlord's forces.

"We have to go back for him" Lloyd said

"We will, but only when you are safe" Kai said

"He wants these weapons, and for some reason, he also wants you. Remember, this was Sensei's plan. They can't break him." Cole reminded them

"My father's looking for me too" Aria added "yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has yet to come. We need to worry about today"

"We will come back to New Ninjago City. And when we do we'll be ready" Zane said

Aria looked out of Kai's jet at the others "Right now we need to find some place safe to hide. They'll be looking for us."
