it was just like the movies. my best friend finally found himself a girlfriend, only this girlfriend happens to be the most popular girl in my grade.
he started to drift away from me and made excuses on why he couldn't hang out with me. i slam my locker accidentally and continue on my way through the halls.
they were the new big thing. the school's 'it' couple. the talk of the town, or so they say. but people knew. people knew i was his best friend. they knew he quit hanging out with me once he started dating brit.
she has long straight brown hair, which ends near her hip bone, cheek bones carved by god himself, tan skin that seems to last throughout the entire year, and eyelashes that look like extensions.
she's perfect.
she also has an amazing personality. kind, empathetic, outgoing. she has eyes the colour of a lagoon ocean and freckles across her nose. how could i compete with her?
and sure, i want him to be happy, but i also want my best friend back.
i watch as c/n walks past me, his hand linked with hers. i quickly shift my eyes to the ground and pretend not to see them, clutching my books tighter.

class goes by quickly, and i rush out of there as fast as possible. i grab my dark blue kanken backpack and my homework. i notice c/n staring at me from across the hall.
he's actually alone for once throughout these past few weeks.
noticing this, i close my locker and walk through the opposite end of the hall towards the side exit.
i open the door and let out a deep sigh. my phone has no text messages and my mum isn't here to pick me up yet so i lean against the wall.

"y/n?" i jump at the mention of my name and immediately recognize it. i mentally roll my eyes and face c/n.
"where's brit? isn't she supposed to be with you at all times?" i ask, placing my hand on my hips.
"why are you acting like this?"
i scoff. "ever since you started dating her you haven't given two shits about me." i begin.
"y/n-"
"no, c/n. i needed you one time. i needed my best friend for one time! and you couldn't cancel your date! how many times have i been there for y-" i get interrupted.
"y/n, i broke up with her!" he shouts over me. i widen my eyes.
"oh so now you're crawling back to me?"
he sighs deeply. "i realized she was ruining our friendship and something i only thought happened in movies happened." he says.
"i fell in love with my best friend."
my breath hitches as he finishes.
"w-what?"
"i'm in love with you." he says, taking my hands. "i... i love you too." i stutter, a goofy smile on my face.
"you're damn stubborn, y/n."
