Lydia

What do you think? I love it.

😉

I've broken the brown trio though. Sadie and Allison have dark hair. I'll be the odd one out now. 😂

I actually kind of like that. Ssh. Don't tell.

How'd you know that?

Oh duh ! Haha. Of course. Talk soon? I'm about to head into english x

😚

By some miracle, she wasn't late for English. She sat beside Sadie and accepted several compliments on her hair from class mates. Allison was late, the seat in front the two girls empty as usual. Neither of them understood how the third part of their friend group was always late.

The teacher gave them instructions for independent study for an upcoming test and allowed quiet conversation that related to the topic. Not that any of her peers would refrain from irrelevant gossip.

"Have you seen Carter this morning?" Allison questioned, falling into her seat and turning around to face the girls. Lydia and Sadie nodded, not sure where their friend was going with the question. "He looks delicious! I had no idea he was back."

"I did." Lydia shrugged, highlighting the description for hyperbole in her text book. That word always tripped her up. "We bumped into each other in the parking lot after school yesterday."

She glanced up, her pen still on the paper as she looked at her friends expectant faces. When she shrugged, unsure on what they wanted to hear, Allison let out a loud sigh, dramatically tipping her head back. "Revenge sex. You have to. The hot best friend of the cheating ex. It's perfect."

"I'm not really into meaningless sex," Lydia pursed her lips, not wanting to finish the sentence with 'like some people'.

She didn't judge her best friend for who she spread her legs for. That was her business and she respected that. But she didn't like the fact that Allison was so determined to get Lydia's count up a few more numbers.

"It's not meaningless!" Allison objected, smacking her gum as she pulled her mouse brown pony tail tighter. "The meaning is to get even."

"He does look good in the school uniform," Sadie nodded, Allison snapping her fingers in agreement.

"We used to say that about Riley too," Lydia muttered, her gaze directed down on the text book but her attention elsewhere.

"Riley looks like a six foot walking, talking dog turd!" Sadie declared with a firm voice, managing not to shout.

"Your insults are so soft." Allison told her with a disapproving glare. "He's a cunt."

"I agree." Lydia nodded.

"I don't like to curse."

For the remainder of the class Allison kept quiet about Carter. Lydia could tell that she wanted to put further pressure on the situation. But she kept the comments to herself.

At lunch time the girls shuffled into the cafeteria, collecting their trays and food before sitting down at their usual table at the back of the room. Her appetite was promptly squashed though when she caught site of her ex making his way towards them, his blonde hair catching the fluorescent lighting, his tall and strong build making it impossible not to notice his approach.

She put her head down but save for acting as though she was now deaf, Lydia couldn't ignore him when he put his hands on the other side of the table and hovered, her name rolling off his tongue in such a gentle tone that she found it hard to believe that this was the same boy that broke her heart.

"Can we please talk?" He asked. "Privately."

Lydia glanced up and it took some sort of super strength to feign indifference as she gazed into those pale blue orbs that she knew better than her own.

"I'd rather not."

"Please. Just one conversation."

"I'll bash you across the head with this tray if you don't fuck off," she growled, her facade starting to slip. She masked the hurt with rage, she didn't want him to see her tears.

He glanced from side to side, aware that they had the attention of the students that were close by. He lowered his voice and tried once more.

"All I'm asking for is one conversation. And then I'll leave you alone."

Lydia stood so fast that her chair dropped, causing a loud clang to silence the cafeteria. She didn't care who was watching at this point. All she could see was red. She could feel the pain that she'd started to chip away, resurfacing, threatening to fester inside of her once more.

"Here's the thing Hart," she sneered, gripping a fistful of his tie and collar. She pulled him forward, getting nice and close in the hopes that he would get her message. "All I asked for was loyalty. All I asked for was a fucking boyfriend that could keep his dick in his pants. All I asked for was to be treated with the same respect that I gave you and I would rather be single for the rest of my life than have anything to do with you. Ever again!"

She pushed him back and ignored how flushed his cheeks were, how red he'd become. She snatched her bag from the ground and weaved through the tables, not turning back when her friends called her name. She could feel the stares that were penetrating her but she didn't care about that either. She felt good about the fact that she had shown that she wasn't weak. She wouldn't crumble under his charm or good looks. She wouldn't let the fact that he was her childhood sweetheart change how she felt.

She was worth more than how he had treated her. No matter how much it hurt.

"Slow down killer." A strong voice called out, steps ran behind her, catching up as she swiped at a few lone tears that had escaped. She pushed open the exit doors to the car park as an arm draped across her shoulder. "You're one hell of a girl, Lydia James."
