《My Next Door Neighbour Hisses》Chapter 28

"Señorita. Señorita!" My eyes fluttered open when my body started shaking. It took a second to realize the man standing by my side with his hand on my shoulder. I blinked a few times to wake myself before looking around. We were no longer in the city but in the jungle. Well sort of.

We were in a clearing that was surrounded by the jungle. But in the clearing were small houses of the same design. I was taken to a lodge? There was quite a lot. It must be a popular place.

"Señorita." The man called again before backing out. Allowing me to step out of the car and grab my luggage which was already taken out. I followed him along a stone path before heading up to one of the lodges that were closest to the jungle. The man turned to me before handing me a set of keys.

"Here is your accommodation. Enjoy." He smiled but it was almost unnatural for me, but I was glad he left. I stood outside at my lodge. The design of it was a simple wooden square house with a fibre palm roof, up high on pillar platforms that help protect them from floods.

There was a saying: never judge a book by its cover. They were right. Inside, despite it still contained the wooden interior floor and walls. It was quite modern. A single queen size bed with white sheets. Above it was a large net that could easily go around the entire bed. Small bedside tables with a single draw. The lamps match the ones hanging from the tall ceiling with a cylinder shape with pattern holes for the light to go through.

There was a door leading to the bathroom which again was modern but to fit in with the jungle theme. Back in the main room, against another wall was a small table with two chairs. Making a clear indication that this house was meant for two. Then there were large windows almost covering the entire wall which led to the deck with two colourful hammocks. Beyond it was the view of the jungle.

I sighed heavily once more. I wished I could enjoy this place but now I worry about what would happen next. Adrian still hadn't shown up. Would it be tonight? Tomorrow? I don't know. All I could do was wait.

There was some small pamphlet about the place to keep my mind off things. At least there were some things I can do before I get taken. I mostly stayed in my accommodation until night fell before heading to the largest building on the property. It was there I found the main dining room. Apparently, Adrian had given me some sort of premium accommodation that came with meals I can choose from the dining hall and not worry about paying extras. At least I was able to choose something.

Though the meal didn't last long before I headed back to my accommodation. Though there was a tv, it was all in another language. I took a bath instead to try and calm down. It had been rough for the last few nights, haven't been getting good night sleeps ever since this happened.

But all I could do was try. By the time I got out of the bath and into my pyjamas, it was already dark outside. I could still see the jungle that was lit by the outside lights. However, it only creped me out, so I closed the curtains before tucking into bed. I moved the net around the bed that gave me a sense of security.

The sheets were thin, but the pillows were soft. The room was quiet, but I could hear the unfamiliar noises coming from outside. Lone animal calls of birds or something I wasn't sure of. So, my brain was still restless. So much was still going through my head.

Now I was here. In a strange place at night, waiting for a monster to come. I couldn't help but cry. What am I even doing? And why me? Out of all the girls in the world, this had to happen to me. Those questions I asked myself every night and every night, there was nothing that could answer them. It would be better to accept it, but it was hard considering that it would not be a happy ending.

I must have fallen asleep after crying.

Things then became a blur. I remember feeling a hand stroking my head and seeing those warm colours again. I couldn't hear anything but there was someone telling me to relax and continue to sleep. I was safe now. My body felt numb and heavy.

For a moment there was nothing then my conscious came through. My eyes were met with a different environment. Instead of an open, modern interior, I was seeing stone ceiling that of a cave, but it was warm and closed in. Giving it a cosy feeling. There were small candles to the side and lanterns hanging from the ceiling. But the main light source was coming from one direction that was showered by a brown voile that was blocking the entrance.

There were vines that hang from any crack of the cave but I wasn't sure it was from those or outside that was giving a strong scent of the jungle. Cool and refreshing.

There was only so much detail I could get before my eyes closed again. Automatically, I shifted myself onto my side but halted when I noticed a grip that was wrapped around my waist like someone was holding me. Only it wasn't an arm.

The movement shifted all around before a shadow cast over me. A soft touch caressed my cheek before his finger comb through my hair then repeat. My eyes open once more. They became direct as I was now faced to face with the monster. His golden yellow eyes were set on me with his relaxed face. His lips offered a soft smile that could easily melt anyone. And his voice spoke in a tone that made me hated myself for missing it.

"Welcome, my love."
