《My Next Door Neighbour Hisses》Chapter 16

"Adrian, I'm not sure about this now." I sat there in his main room, nervously, trying depressively to keep my fear down. In front, on the other side of the room, Adrian has pulled out two large containers and, on the table, two smaller ones. You may have guess, there are snakes in them.

"You said, that you would do it without backing out." Adrian repeats the words I said earlier this morning. I wish I could say I was drunk but my mouth decided to run on its own and so here I am daring myself to hold a snake.

"I promise you, they won't bite and besides you were fine with me last night."

"Yeah, but that's because I knew you. Snakes are unpredictable." I exclaimed. I could feel my body twitch as Adrian grabs one of the smaller containers.

"Listens, we'll start with the smaller ones." He opens it up and pulls out an orange stripped snake which happily coils around his hand. Oh, dear God, give me strength. "Here, a corn snake. They are known to be the best snakes for beginners and they aren't venomous."

He walks around and sits down next to me as my eyes were glued onto the snake. Usually, my body would turn itself on and bolt away from it, but I forced myself to stay.

"We'll take it slow." Adrian tries his best to soothe me, "How about you touch it. I won't give him to you but have a pet. His texture will be no different to mine."

I barely moved for a moment before slowly, I reached out, gently and lightly touched the snake with my fingertips. Adrian was right, the texture was like his. Quickly, my hand moved away when the snake's head turn to me.

"It's alright, he was just checking to see who is touch him. He won't attack you." Adrian assured me. "If he felt threaten, he'll let you know, remember what I told you?" Yes, I do. If the snake feels threatened, he'll get into a pre-striking pose and wait for me to get close to attack.

But still, it didn't change my mind about it. Then Adrian offers the snake to me. My heart races. From touching a snake to now holding one. Slowly, I force my hands to open as they firmly were on my lap. Gently, the snake was placed in my hands.

From that point, I was frozen like stone. I've got a live snake in my hands. My mind went blank, unsure what to do. I didn't want to throw it, nor did I want to keep it in my hands. The snake, naturally, according to Adrian, wraps itself around my hand and fingers, securing itself in place. My hands were soon joined by Adrian as he tries to calm me.

After a few minutes, Adrian took the snake out of my hand and placed it back into the container. As soon as he did, I immediately got up and walked away, shaking my hands.

"You did...well." He said. I didn't answer back. "Let's take a break then we can try another one." I still had my back to him, trying to shake off that weird feeling that you get when something disgusting comes to mind and sends a tingling throughout your body.

Soon, a warm and strong embrace came from behind me. Adrian rests his head on my shoulder before we lay our heads comfortable against each other. He once again entangles his hands with mine and the weird feeling went away. I felt at ease but was only disturbed by Adrian's phone.

The room grew cold as we separated, and Adrian answered the called. As I could hear the muffled voice through the phone, Adrian rolled his eyes in annoyance which made me smile. It seems that his co-workers like to interrupt our moment. He left the room for more privacy as he spoke back. Must be serious.

I went back onto the couch and waited for Adrian to return. I probably waited for about 10 minutes before my eyes slowly closed and I fell asleep. When I tried to move in my sleep, I couldn't. My mind became disturbed when I could feel something wrapped around my body. Slightly, I manage to move my body a bit and rested my head again something soft and smooth as my cheek rubbed against it. Hang on, I'm not moving my head.

My eyes open and in my sight, my body was wrapped by two large snakes, both are of distinct colours. I was wrapped from my shoulders down to my legs. Memories of that night came to my head and I begin to panic. I quickly scan the room and Adrian was still nowhere to be found. How long have I been asleep? When my large eyes landed on the containers, they were open. They must have come from them. But how did they get out? Certainly, Adrian didn't open them.

I begin to call out to Adrian, normally at first. But no response. I glance at the snake, watching their movement, hoping to prevent them from squeezing me to death. As my arms are pinned to the sides I couldn't do anything. I called out again, this time louder. I regretted doing that.

Both snakes' heads rose and look directly at me. I just felt my body being turned back into stone. I think we were having a staring competition (the snakes win anyway since they can't blink). I tried to keep myself from preventing any fast movement. For a moment, I felt myself on the edge of a blade, I wrong footing and I'm doomed.

"Sophia, what's wro...?" my body felt relieved as I saw Adrian coming back into the room. As soon as he saw me, his eyes widen, realizing the situation I was in. "Oh, hang, let me help you." He walked over as the snakes turn their heads towards him. With a flick of his hand, the snakes calmly uncoiled them and returned to their containers.

Immediately, when I was free I rush to Adrian and hold him on with dear life, still shaking. Adrian returns the strong embrace and did his best to comfort me.

"I'm sorry, I didn't expect them to do that." He said, rubbing my back softly but I didn't answer back. "I think, that's enough snakes for you today."
