《Iris: Child of prophecy》Chapter Forty Two.

Little witch. Malik mindlinked me.

I fought the urge to smile,

Alpha.

I replied.

Man do I love hearing you call me that.

Well don't get used to it.

I think I know how to get it out of you.

I rolled my eyes, not entirely hating the idea. I got out if bed and walked to the bathroom, no soreness. Well I guess you could attribute that to my super fast healing. Ugh I love my body. Never thought I'd ever say that but I'm in a pretty good mood.

After a quick shower, I got dressed and walked out in search of Malik.

Where are you? I asked.

What? Already missing me?

I sighed and shook my head, who knew the feared and powerful Alpha was so smug and cocky. Honestly I'm starting to see how a friendship between himself and Absalom works.

Are you telling me or not?

Hey, just an idea why don't you find me.

You know there's a spell for tracking right?

Fine. I'm in my study.

Good pup.

What did you just say?

You heard me.

I laughed walking over to the study, it was on the second floor, so I passed a few wolves on the way. But surprisingly they didn't make me feel awkward infact they practically ignored me. Huh, guess I'm now really a member of the pack.

Malik was standing by the window when I walked in. He was in middle of a pretty intense phone call, come to think of it I don't have one of those. He motioned for me to sit as he spoke.

I walked over to the legendary couch, noticing his desk was different. Makes sense, he practically reduced the last one to cinders. I hope they drilled this one into the ground, if that will even stop him.

I stared at my laps and nails and basically everything until a flying phone caught my attention. We both stared at the broken phone shattered by the door for a minute.

"So I'm guessing not a good phone call?" I asked.

"Gee what made you guess that?"

Is that sass? Is Malik really being sarcastic? What happened to my grumpy mate?

"Okay, chill. What happened?" I asked.

"The witches, there are not just after us, they are attacking other wolves" He huffed.

"And you... care why?"

"Really little witch, really. How can you even say that?" He stared at me with his arms folded.

"Ugh I don't know, maybe considering the fact that you and your entire pack is considered a myth to the entire werewolf community. Or the fact that you have never spoken about anyone else apart from those in your pack. It just seems that you don't care." I shrugged "but hey don't sweat it, I don't care either, they have Alphas don't they?"

He smiled "you are such a witch aren't you."

"What do you mean by that?"

"No nothing just you not the type of person that wants to save everyone, now I mean I get that I respect that. But what about the bigger picture?"

The blank stare on my face gave my confusion aware, he sighed rubbing his temples. "Look Iris, it may not look like it, but being the first Lycan. I'm kind of responsible for the other wolves. Sure I've withdrawn from all the pack squabbles and politics but this is an outside threat. I have to do something about it."

I sighed, "fine, okay do what you must but just know, it's easier to protect a pack of wolves than the entirety of them." I threw my hands in the air.

"Good, I already called a meeting. The other Alphas are getting here on the evening." He walked back to his desk.

"Already? That was fast."

"Yeah, Absalom did the honours."

"Absalom is gone? Again? What about Aria?" I asked.

"He left last night after he received a distress call from Esme, she told him they had been attacked by the witches and it was bad, apparently it's been going on longer that we knew. Some of the other Alphas had already come together to meet. But they are too strong for them." He said.

"Huh" the witches are attacking other wolves? Doesn't seem like them, unless this is a bigger ploy. They are aiming for bigger, something bigger. But what?

"What's are you thinking?" Malik asked.

"It's just... this, this is odd. Witches normally don't garner this much attention. They know how dangerous an army of enemies can be. Don't get me wrong they cause a lot of chaos but they don't do it directly, the other packs are sure it was witches that attacked them?" He nodded.

"If that's the case then we are no longer the only targets, they are baiting something bigger." I sucked in my lower lip.

"But what? Could it be the Goddess?" He asked.

"That's a theory, but we can't be too sure."

"Well, I guess you should get a move on" he said and I gave him a questioning look.

"Get ready for the Alphas, you know the preparations." He gave me a strange look.

"I'm I supposed to know what to do all of a sudden? And why can't you do it?" I asked.

He let out a small laugh "come on little witch, it's your responsibility. You're Luna now."

I gave him the you-must-be-crazy look.

"Fine. Talon will help, she has been trained for such matters." He finally said after a long pause.

Talon? "She has been trained for such matters? You mean she has been trained to be a Luna?" I snarled.

"Well yeah" he looked at me with his brows raised "is that a problem?"

"Who else has been 'trained' in such matters?" I asked.

"Well, I'm only aware of her, which is why I told you to go meet her." He stated.

Does he not notice what is going on? Ugh guys can be so stupid when they want to.

"So she's the only one in this pack that has been 'trained' to be a Luna" I glared at him.

He looked up from the papers he was currently looking at and met my furious eyes. "Hmm".

"Hmph? Is that all you have to say?"

"I'm not going to answer your question Iris."

"And why not?" I asked leaning on my right leg and folded my arms.

"Because it's clearly a trap." He said curtly looking back down.

"It cute that you think your bit already in the trap. Oh so she is the only one, that only female she-wolf in this pack that knows the dos and don'ts of being Luna. Pretty strange to me, don't you think?"

He groaned. "Look, Talon's family took care of me the last time I was out from the water fall after my mate had died. And I hadn't met you for so long so her mother as well as the rest of the pack agreed it would be better to have a Luna for the strength of the pack."

"So they chose her?"

He sucked in a breath "I chose her."

My jaw dropped, and I let out a strained laughter. That's why, that's why she's always such a bitch to me. Gosh I'm so naive.

"So what happened? Why isn't she the Luna?"

"You showed up." He stated matter of factly.

"And if I hadn't?" I asked dreading the answer.

"She would have been Luna." I bit my lip and clutched my fists, don't get angry, don't get angry.

"And you didn't think to tell me?"

"I just did." He said with a little yawn.

What the hell is up with him?

"Oh I'm sorry, am I boring you?" I asked.

"Look Iris, please, let's not fight. Just get the preparations done. With or without Talon, I'm sure you'll do a get job." He smiled.

I stared at him for a while but shook my head, no way. It couldn't be possible. I turned and walked out of the study in search of an annoying brunette.

"Selene, do not walk away from this!" Eos cried.

"I shall not sit here and listen to your foolish assumptions, besides how am I certain you're not just making all this up?" Selene snapped.

"I am not, that man, um.. Endymion does not love you. He is not himself, I know what I saw. Please believe me sister." Eos pleaded.

"You have no idea what love is, Eos. No idea, you are just jealous that I'm happy and you are not" Selene said.

"And whose fault is it that I'm not happy?" Eos asked, "you who refused your engagement, I loved my life, I loved my family and I loved my friends. You rejected a god to be married to a mere farmer?" She laughed "you are pathetic Selene."

Not long before she uttered the words Selene palm connected with her face.

"Shut up!" Selene screamed. "I'm your older sister and I demand respect this instant!"

Eos held he cheek in her palm, staring daggers at her sister. She was not making anything up, she knew what she saw and heard. She knew was she sensed, but no one would believe her. She had started to get visions, she had started to feel stronger. Ofcourse it was expected, she was not like Selene, she was a goddess. She knew it but she was still too scared to tell her father. He loved Selene so much and he was so disappointed to find out she was a mere human, that's why he was so eager to get her married to Herna. But no, his precious Selene didn't want to marry without love, what the hell ever made her so confident?

"You know nothing about my engagement, so I implore you to shut up and tend to your business!" Selene yelled.

"Well please enlighten me sister. Maybe I'll be supportive if I knew why you broke of your engagement with Herna. Why we were banished from Olympus." Eos asked.

"Like I said before it not a matter that concerns you" Selene argued.

"Really?" Eos laughed "fine then, but know this. Something is playing you and you are falling right into it's trap. I hope you don't end up doing anything that affects me. Because next time I won't sit quietly and let you get away with ruining my life." Eos said and turned away from her sister.

How she desperately wanted to help her sister, how she desperately wanted to be happy. How she desperately wanted to go home and most of all, how she desperately wanted to see Helios. But none of that was ever going to come true. She hated living like this. But what choice did she have?

************************************

Another dream, this is quite strange, who are these people? Yawning, I get up and head up to the bathroom. All afternoon I was in a hall talking about decorations, food, arrangements. Apparently Malik was throwing a small party, a ploy to distract the witches, while the real meeting with the Alphas would be held in a different place.

Dumbest idea ever.

How stupid does he think witches are? Ofcourse they'll pick up on the fact that a pack that has hidden its' existence for over three centuries is suddenly throwing a party. Very coy. But I'm too angry to even give my suggestion, at this moment I might even join the other side. Chosen to be Luna my foot!

I walked into the bathroom to take a shower, all to anxious about everything going on. Now I'm having strange dreams of people I don't know, although I have to admit they look very familiar.

I push the thought to the back of my mind when I walk out and see Aria and Every holding makeup.

"It's good to be Luna you know" I smirk as I walk over to them.

"Really? Thought you would hate this stuff" Every smiled.

"Hate getting all dolled up, yeah I hate looking good" we all start laughing.

"Iris, lives for attention" Aria shakes her head.

"It's true, I do" I say nodding my head. "Besides it not always my fault that attention follows me around"

Every smiles as she tries to put some of my hair in a pony tail. "I don't think the Alpha is going to happy with other wolves ogling his mate." She says as she begins curling it.

"You know what, you just gave me an idea" I smile "that is exactly the look I want."

"Are you sure?" Every asks.

"Absolutely, make me Stunning, stunning." I emphasized the last stunning. The entire day I've been listening to and obeying Malik's demands, it's time for some payback. He is going to regret treating me like some housewife (no offense to the beautiful homemakers). Spouting out orders left and right any how.

"So you're saying you want your makeup to be eye catching?" Aria asked.

I nodded.

"I don't have time for any drama, you two have going on. I have my own problems. I'm going to go shopping in that massive closet of yours, I need a dress." She said walking away.

"Absalom didn't get you one?" I yelled.

"Oh he did, but I'm not wearing it" she stuck her head out of the walk in closet.

"So you judge me for trying to annoy my mate and here you are, instigating yours." I laugh.

"Hey, I have a good reason" she yells from inside the closet.

"And I don't?"

"Well mine is better." She says, I nod. From what Malik told me earlier, hers is better.

"So Luna when you say bold..." Every grins.

"Every, give me fake lashes, blood red lips and a nicely contoured face. Make it look effortless, and modest but still not natural" I smile.

"You know you certainly know a lot for someone who has lived in the forest for most of her life." She says as she gets to work.

"Not entirely, I had the first seventy six years with my sisters, then I spent almost twenty years in a human settlement." I say, good old days.

"What made you leave?" She asked.

"Uh... let's just say, I messed with the wrong people and I was not ready to expose what I really was. Also, I was not aging so they were starting to get suspicious."

"Hmmm... so that not aging thing how does it work?"

"Witches use magic to keep themselves young, plus there's a coming of age ceremony that takes place, you choose. You either live forever and sacrifice your womb or have children and grow old." I say casually.

"So you sacrificed having children?" She says with a stern look.

"Well in actual context yeah... but it was a painful experience for me. You see witches aren't normally supposed to reproduce, so the ceremony allows you to either remain immortal or finally allows you birth children. But in my case I could reproduce. I started my period like a normal she wolf, when I was eight. That's how Mother knew I was the witch, the child that the prophecy spoke about. Since then I was treated differently, hated, tortured it was hell. I didn't want to feel unwanted, which girl wanted. So I thought if I got rid of my womb my mother would love me again. But it didn't work. My gift wouldn't let me get rid of it. As soon as the hacked it off, it grew back. Like I was an organ bank. A few years after that I left." I said softly, all the emotions coming back, I bit back the tears. I wasn't going to cry, I've had more than three centuries to get over it, no more tears, no more tears.

I had succeeded in holding back my tears until the two babies in the room started sobbing, or rather continued sobbing.

"You guys, come on stop" I frowned.

Before I knew what was happening Aria wrapped me in her arms and sobbed into my shoulder. "Gosh I understand everything now, I'm sorry." She said.

I gave her a small smile, "it's okay, I'm fine, really. This is the first time I'm saying this to anybody. I didn't even intend to over share but it's fine. I guess I'm finally over it, right?"

"Oh Iris, I'm so sorry." She hugged me again.

Every wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and sniffled. "You're an inspiration to me Luna. To all of us, I'm really excited and honoured to have you as a leader. You are by far the strongest she wolf in this world."

I grinned "as much as I would love to claim that title, I'm afraid I can't. All witches are strong, really crazy strong. I'm just like any of them really. That's why it's really important we are prepared for them. Now Aria get of me, we have a war to plan."

"Fine" she groaned "but this is not over."

"Whatever."

We spend the rest of the time picking outfits to enrage our annoying mates and getting ready. All I hoped was that at the end, everything would be fine. Oh please let everything be fine.
