"Mmm, this candied apple is so good," I groaned as I savoured the sweet and crunchy taste.

"I can buy you another if you want," Klaus linked his hand with mine, smiling down at me. "But I much rather think you would enjoy the taste of me instead..."

"Nik!" I practically choked on a piece. "Remember what we came here for?"

"Yeah yeah, I know," he rolled his eyes. "But that doesn't mean we can't take some detours. Some spontaneous nights in motels. I heard that's where a lot of action happens."

I laughed at his suggestive eyebrows.

"Liam said the Augustine Building was in Baltimore, and so here we are," I said in exasperation. "But he failed to be specific. This is gonna take forever."

"Not necessarily," Klaus shrugged, and randomly grabbed a person off a street.

"Klaus! You can't just go kidnapping people!" I hissed. "We talked about this!"

"Relax, I'm just compelling them," he protested as the scared stranger looked like he was going to wet himself. "Now, do you know of any mysterious buildings in the city? They may be abandoned, or secret?"

"No," the man said robotically. "I just moved here."

"Ugh," I sighed as Klaus flung him back onto the street with annoyance. "Hey, what about that street?"

I pointed down an abandoned street with houses that looked like they had barely survived a tornado. At the very end of the street was a large grey building, the windows caged away and a huge sign that said VACATED.

"That looks like a good place to start," Klaus smiled, and we walked towards the building.

We arrived a short few minutes later, and looked up at the gloomy place. It looked completely abandoned, and I'm gonna admit it, a little creepy.

"Alright, let's go," Klaus said promptly, walking in before realising I wasn't next to him. "What's wrong?"

"I make it a habit not to go into scary haunted buildings," I said sheepishly, feeling goosebumps on the back of my neck. "What if this goes wrong Klaus? What if they are able to capture me again? Or hurt you?"

"No one is going to get to you, I'll kill them before they even get a chance," Klaus said fiercely, striding back towards me. "And me, I am unhurtable, unkillable, and undefeatable."

I swear he puffed out his chest a little at those words.

"Arrogant much?" I laughed, but walked in with him nonetheless, the silence still being unnerving.

We walked around for a few minutes with no satisfaction of finding anything. But then, as I was walking towards a back room, I stepped on something squeaky. I looked down to see carpet, and furrowed my brows. I quickly peeled the rug back to find a trapdoor.

"Aha," I grinned at Klaus.

"My smart girl," he grinned back and opened it with ease.

"Ladies first," I motioned for him to go in teasingly.

We crawled down the dark shaft until we reached a sub level that had been completely hidden beneath the house.

"Well this is exciting," I tried to make small talk, when really I wanted to run out of here.

But Klaus had his head cocked, as if he were listening to something. "Do you hear that?" he hissed, inching down one of the halls.

We tip-toed down the hallway and got a huge room. My eyes widened. I was probably bigger than my entire apartment. And it was filled with equipment and empty beds meant for patients.

"They've completely moved over here," I breathed out. "Everything is here."

"Well then, that makes it easier for us to burn it all down," Klaus grabbed my hand and we started briskly walking back to the trapdoor.

But something made me stop in my tracks. In one of the smaller rooms, my eyes caught something white and fluttering. I let go of Klaus's hand and walked into it. Liam's wings were still in the glass box, on display.

"Klaus," I gasped. "It's his wings."

"Are you okay?" he asked quietly. "

"I want to bring them with us," I replied softly, and Klaus nodded without question, and whooshed upstairs with the box.

He then came downstairs again and helped me climb the ladder.

"Why is no one here?" I asked suspiciously. "Don't you think it would be brimming with scientists and doctors?"

"I don't know," Klaus admitted. "It doesn't matter now. Let's burn it all down."

"That I can agree with," I said firmly, and looked around for gasoline.

I soon found it and started quickly drizzling every single inch of the forsaken building, being super thorough and concise. Klaus got the matches. We then walked outside, standing right in front of the door.

"Are you ready?" Klaus mumbled, handing me a match.

"I think so," I answered, and through the match inside the house.

At once a blazing fire erupted, intense heat rushing towards my face. We stumbled back a few steps. A laugh bubbled out of me, as I felt extreme happiness in seeing the place that still plagued my nightmares burning to ashes.

I grabbed Klaus and kissed him with all my might, ignoring the small sparks that landed on the floor around us, basking in the orange light which spotlighted us in the dim street.

"I love you," I whispered, pressing my forehead against his.

His eyes looked up in astonishment, as a furious blush erupted across his cheeks.

"I love you," the words tumbled out of his lips not long before he pressed them against mine again.

"You know they'll want revenge," I said as we separated. "They'll come after me."

"They can try," Klaus growled. "I don't think they'll be able to get you when you have an original hybrid on your side. And don't forget how powerful you are now, my angel. You're free Kaitlyn. And I'm never leaving you."

The smile on his face was infectious, and I grinned brighter than I ever have.

"You saved me. You know that right?" I said quietly.

His arms slipped around my waist as he leaned forward, kissing me again. I tangled my hands in his golden locks, tugging a little as he groaned against my mouth. His hands went lower, settling on my hips as I tried to pull him closer, to close any millimetre of distance between us.

"Gosh, it's like watching a soap opera," a voice came from nowhere as Klaus and I jumped apart startled.

"Yeah, get a room you two. No one likes to see PDA like that."

I saw Kol first, then Elijah, and then Rebekah and Caroline, hand in hand.

"You guys," I said in astonishment. "What are you doing here?"

"We're family now," Rebekah said warmly, hugging me. "You're a Mikaelson Kaitlyn."

"And I felt like I needed a vacation," Caroline laughed, embracing me as well. "I think the Salvatores and Bonnie can handle Elena's antics for a few weeks. Then I'll have to go back though."

"We'll see about that," Rebekah frowned, holding the blonde's hand again.

"Where are we gonna go?" I asked curiously, wondering if they had an idea.

"I heard New Orleans was nice this time of year, isn't it Niklaus?" Elijah spoke up, and Kol nodded his agreement.

"I think I would agree brother," Klaus smiled. "Kaitlyn, I think it's time I show you my home."

He interlocked his fingers with mine, and lead the way down the street, the fire still burning brightly behind us. I looked around to see Rebekah and Caroline excitedly chattering about something, Elijah and Kol walking side my side, and then at Klaus's hand in mine.

As we walked towards our next destination, I realised that I finally felt as if I had belonged.
