"Do you want to go to a dance with me?" Klaus whispered as soon as my eyes opened.

He was hovering over me in his bed, scaring me half to death.

"What?" I muttered incoherently, still half-dead from sleep-deprivation.

"There's a dance at the high school tonight. I thought it might cheer you up if we go," Klaus pressed a little kiss on the tip of my nose for good measure, as if that would convince me to go.

"Ughhhhhh," I groaned. "My social battery is dead."

"You're social battery has probably been dead for the past decade," Rebekah sauntered in, pulling the covers off of Klaus and I as I shrieked in indignation. "C'mon, mopey time is over. You killed your brother, but now is the time to get over it."

"Sensitivity darling, has never been your strong suit," Kol walked in after her, rolling his eyes at his sister.

"What is this? The Kaitlyn comforting squad?" I propped myself up on my elbows, acutely aware that I was wearing a minimal amount of clothes.

"Rebekah love, can you get rid of Kol and his lingering eyes before I'm tempted to dagger him?" Klaus asked sweetly, promptly covering me up again.

My phone rang and I shooed them all out, Klaus insisting he stayed since it was his room after all. I picked up the call to see that it was Caroline.

"Hey," she said in a voice that was all too sad.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked quickly, wondering what possible life and death situation could be happening today.

"I heard about you and Elena," she sighed. "They are not happy with you..."

"Oh right, that," I pinched the bridge of my nose. "I really screwed up. I know that."

"Well, I think you had the right meaning, it just wasn't conveyed very effectively. Elena still has marks over her neck," Caroline said.

"You're making me feel terrible. I should probably try to apologise to her at the dance, though I don't think it'll be very effective. Honestly, I think my friendships with Stefan and Elena are falling away, well, if I even ever had one with her. I hope Damon still thinks I'm decent. Actually, on second thought, he probably hates me too after I left him with Rebekah in the Mikaelson house. I can't believe I'm closer to them now that I am with my old friends."

"Wait, you're going to the dance?" Caroline asked with a hint excitement.

"That's what you derived out of all of this?" I raised an eyebrow as I bit back a laugh.

"Sorry, I just was thinking of asking Rebekah, but I'm scared she'll say no. So you were my second option."

"Gee thanks," I said dryly. "I was going with Klaus and I really think you should ask Rebekah."

Rebekah's hand shot out of nowhere into the room, giving me a thumbs up. I rolled my eyes as I realised the entire family was probably eavesdropping on me.

"I think she'll say yes," I smiled. "I'll see you tonight, okay?"

"Yeah, don't somehow get in trouble before then," Caroline said sternly, and then hung up.

Rebekah took the silence as a cue to stride back in. She pulled the covers off of me once more and hurriedly threw me an outfit.

"C'mon," she ordered. "We're going dress shopping! I have a girl to impress!"

"You know what he said to me right before I gutted him in the heart?" I spoke up suddenly, looking out of the car window as we pulled into the parking lot. "He said he loved me too."

"Enough already Kaitlyn!" Rebekah said angrily. "He only said that because he knew you would destroy yourself from the inside out after he was dead! He deserved what you did to him, and in my opinion, he deserved worse!"

"I keep trying to tell myself that," I rubbed my forehead in frustration. "I'm sorry that I have feelings!"

"Now, don't get snappy at me," she frowned. "What's the theme of the dance again?"

"The 50s," I answered. "I already have a dress, I'm just helping you choose out yours."

"Umm, if it's the atrocity I saw laying on Klaus's bed, then no, you don't already have a dress," Rebekah raised her brow.

"Are you serious?" I rolled my eyes. "These dresses cost money you know. How am I going to pay?"

"Who said we were going to pay?" she smirked.

∆ ∆ ∆

2 dreadful hours later I was back in the Mikaelson Mansion, putting my new and (I have to admit) gorgeous 50s themed dress.

"You look gorgeous Angel," I heard a voice from the doorway say, and I smudged my eyeliner in fright.

"Nik!" I whined. "Do you know how hard it is to put eyeliner on?"

"I'm actually quite good at it," he mused, and I raised a brow. "What? I went through a phase..."

"I can't believe I'm attending to a dance in a school that I haven't attended in months. Honestly, I don't even know what the teachers think of me," I laughed a little as I wiped off my eye makeup.

"KAITLYN! Tell me I did not just see you wipe off the eye shadow and mascara that I worked so hard to apply!" Rebekah bellowed, dashing into the room. "NIK! OUT!"

"Rebekah, I–" Klaus protested, but Rebekah gave him a death glare.

"OUT!"

Grumbling profanities under her breath, Rebekah reapplied my makeup and sighed in relief when she had finished.

"Now, get my oafish brother and let's go," she ordered, already walking downstairs to the front door.

"Nik! Let's go!" I yelled to wherever he was lurking.

We all left the house, ready to go to a dance that I was dreading. Social interactions and all.

∆ ∆ ∆

The party was in full swing when we arrived, Rebekah walking cooly over to Caroline, pretending as if we didn't notice her giddiness. From afar I could see Stefan and Elena dancing as well, pretending not to see me.

Honestly, I didn't blame them after the stunt I pulled.

Klaus must have noticed my melancholy moved, because he interlocked our fingers, smiling at me. He then pulled me onto the dance floor, both arms hooking around my waist as he held me close.

"Do we really have to dance," I groaned, blushing as eyes were watching us. "Everyone's staring."

"They're staring because we're the most charismatic couple in history," Klaus assured. "And yes, we will dance until we physically cannot anymore. I want you to stop thinking about your brother."

"I am pretty charismatic," I mused. "But you...well, I don't want to bruise your ego."

"What ego?" Klaus looked offended and I snorted.

"The one that is taking up the entire room," I deadpanned. "Let me guess, you think that you're better than everyone here."

"Well, I am!" Klaus said in indignation. "And you are as well! We are immortals, mighty creatures, amazing creations!"

"Well, what about Stefan and Damon. They're immortal. Are you saying they're on the same level as you?" I fought a laugh as I saw Klaus thinking about it.

"No," he said after a few seconds. "Their utter stupidity and hot-headedness puts them back on the pathetic human scale."

"Right," I nodded as if this made sense. "Totally."

"Let's talk about something else," Klaus cleared his throat, peering around the room. "Don't you think Rebekah and Caroline make the most delightful little couple. It's doomed, but it'll be nice while it lasts."

"Wow, Klaus the Debbie-downer," I laughed.

"Who's Debbie?" he wrinkled his nose in confusion.

"You're seriously a gazillion years old and you don't know that phrase!?" I burst out laughing.

"Shush," he tried to look tough, but couldn't help it, laughing with me.

"Why is Klaus here?" we suddenly heard a controlling voice say, and my eye twitched in annoyance, already knowing who it was.

"Oh, so you did notice us," I placed a hand on my hip as I looked at Elena and Stefan who were striding towards us.

"Of course we did," Elena spat. "I just don't like to acknowledge murderous people."

"Ooh, last time you called me a murderous psycho. Looks like we're making progress," I couldn't help myself from making a snide comment, and I hid my smile.

Klaus showered let out a booming laugh. We all looked at him and I cleared my throat uncomfortably.

"What do you want?" he finally asked. "I'm not here on business, more on pleasure."

"We need your help on something," Stefan said vaguely. "Can you come with us?"

"No," Klaus said plainly. "I'm trying to dance with my girl."

"I think you can pause for a few minutes," Stefan said, his voice more stern now.

"It's fine Klaus," I whispered. "Just go. I'll be waiting here."

With a grudging look, Klaus let go of me and walked with Stefan and Elena, leaving my alone in the midst of the other dancing couples.

∆ ∆ ∆

I waited around the buffet, because, honestly, who would choose not to eat in your spare time? But after 30 minutes I had enough. I didn't know where Klaus was, and he wasn't answering my texts either.

It seemed as if Caroline and Rebekah had left as well, and I didn't have to guess to know where they went and what they were doing.

I kind of wanted to stop by the Salvatore house, maybe check on how Damon was doing. That was the friendship I could most probably mend. And so I left the school and headed towards the house.

When I arrived, I noticed that the door was already ajar. I heard multiple voices inside and peered in to see Tyler, Bonnie, Jeremy, and Damon talking amongst themselves.

"Elena and Stefan are distracting him right now, so we have a little more time until we attack," Damon was whispering under his breath.

My stomach clenched as I had the distinct feeling that they were talking about Klaus.

"Are you sure this is gonna work?" Tyler asked quietly. "And don't we have to worry about Kaitlyn? She cares about the dude."

"I can find a spell to make her forget about him," Bonnie suggested, and my eyes widened in betrayal.

"We'll deal with that later," Damon said firmly. "Bonnie, you know the spell?"

"Yes."

"Alright, let's go," he ordered, and I quickly ran behind the door, hoping that they wouldn't see me.

Bonnie was the last to leave the door but I quickly pulled her away and she yelled in surprise.

"Kaitlyn!" she squeaked. "What are you doing here?"

"Better question is what the hell are you doing?" I demanded. "What are you planning to do to Klaus."

"Oh Kaitlyn..." she looked sad as she avoided my gaze. "You weren't supposed to find out like this.. But he's dangerous for you. This is a good thing."

"What are you talking about?" I could barely hear anything over my erratic heartbeat.

"Look, I'm going to tell you the truth. But only because I have faith you'll do the right thing. We know how to kill Klaus. Well, not kill him, but stop his heart indefinitely."

I gaped at her in horror, wondering how in her right mind she thought that this was okay to do.

"But he's not a threat anymore!" I yelled. "He hasn't bothered you guys in ages."

"He will," Bonnie sighed. "He's evil. Can't you see that? I need to go Kaitlyn."

"Oh no you don't," I growled, yanking her back and shoving her against a wall. "I can't let you do this."

"I'm sorry Kaitlyn," she whispered. "But this really is for the best."

She muttered an incantation, and my vision went blurry. I let go of her as I collapsed to the floor, panic coursing through me as everything went black.

∆ ∆ ∆

My eyes snapped open as soon as I regained consciousness.

Klaus!

I had to get to Klaus!

A fierce protectiveness surged through me, boosting enough adrenaline inside for me to burst out of the door. I shot into the air and flew as fast as I could to the Mikaelson house. I didn't even care if the humans saw me. They could just accept that I was a big fat bird.

I arrived to the place in a matter of seconds, pounding down the door. I reached the living room to see Damon holding Klaus in place while Stefan had his hand in the hybrid's chest. Bonnie wasn't there, but she must have been doing something from afar because Klaus's skin was desiccating slowly.

I could see Elena's passed out body in the corner. Good, I didn't have to deal with her.

"Stop!" I yelled, rushing forward.

Stefan stretched his other hand to stop me but I pushed it away easily. Tyler came out of nowhere and tried to hold me back. But my wings were still out, and so I was stronger than both Salvatores and Tyler combined. I screamed in rage, and a flash of light erupted, blinding anyone in the room.

Stefan and Damon fell to the floor in shock as I elbowed Tyler in the ribs hard. I ran towards Klaus who was half unconscious, his face almost completely grey.

I ran to Elena's body and dragged her to Klaus, cutting into her wrist. I then shoved the wrist with the bleeding cut towards his mouth and impatiently waited for him to drink it.

"C'mon, please Nik!" I pleaded.

"Kaitlyn, don't do this," Damon croaked. "He's bad for you."

My hand shot out and a beam of light sent him unconscious.

Finally Klaus's lips puckered a little as he started consuming the blood from Elena's wrist. I wanted to let him drink until the doppleganger was drained, but I knew I couldn't do that.

"Kaitlyn?" he gasped, eyes opening. "Are you okay?"

"Am I okay?" I asked in slight anger, a hysterical laugh bubbling out of me. "ARE YOU OKAY!"

"I think so," he whispered, sitting up and then looking at all the unconscious people around us. "Wow, looks like you saved me."

"Yeah, well, I was angry," I said, a little embarrassed because this showed how much I cared about him.

"I'm sorry you had to fight your friends," he apologised, standing on slightly shaky legs. "I know it doesn't feel good to have to hurt your own."

"They haven't been my friends for a while," I sighed, the fact hitting me like a ton of bricks. "Let's get out of here. Hang low for a while."

His eyes lit up as he looked at me.

"Are you sure, love?" he asked, grasping my hand in his own. "You want to leave Mystic Falls for a while?"

"Definitely. But where should we go?"

"I have a certain place in mind," Klaus smirked devilishly.
