Just keep swimming

-Dory

-Luke-

I was at my new locker grabbing my books for second period when my phone went off. I sighed and furrowed my eyebrows when a picture of my mum doing the dab popped up on the screen. I sighed and answered the call.

"Mum, I'm at school right now. Is this important?" I asked.

"I have something to tell you, but first you have to promise not to hate me." She replied. I closed my locker and walked down the hall.

"Okay, I promise. What happened?"

"Okay, so right after school ends you're gonna get a phone call." She started.

"And who is going to be calling me?" I was getting suspicious by now, hoping that it wasn't one of those cougars back in Wisconsin.

"Pamela." I squeezed my eyes shut and groaned.

"Mum, why in the world would you give grams my number?" I asked.

"Because, I didn't want to talk to her, but your dad insisted. Anyways, please don't hate me." I sighed and rubbed my forehead.

"I don't hate you. Listen, I'm on my way to class, I should go now." I said.

"Alright. Bye honey! Oh, we're going out to dinner tonight at a really cool restaurant I found, so make sure you don't make any plans."

"Got it, bye." I ended the call and looked up to see Maggie at her locker. I smirked and made a beeline towards her, waiting until she closed her locker so she could see me.

I furrowed my eyebrows when I heard sniffling. "Are you crying?" I asked. I heard a bang before hearing, "Ow."

Maggie stepped back to face me as she rubbed the spot on her head she hit. Her eyes were slightly red and there were a few tear stains on her cheek.

"You don't just sneak up on people like that! What are you doing here?" She asked, looking around. I crossed my arms and tilted my head.

"Well, I'm here for my education. Just like everyone else at this school is." I joked. She rolled her eyes and scowled at me.

"I meant here. As in right beside me and talking to me." She gestured to where I was standing and rested her hands on her hips.

"What? Is it illegal to speak with a pretty girl now in days? 'Cause if that's a case I think I'll be getting arrested soon." Maggie snorted and closed her locker after grabbing some books.

"Really? You had to go there? That kind of stuff doesn't work on me." She huffed and started walking away. I sighed and walked beside her.

"Okay fine. How about this? Why oh why has little miss Maggie been crying?" She stopped walking and looked at me in shock. "What makes you think I've been crying?" She asked.

"Well, first your eyes are red and there are tear stains on your cheeks. You have really nice cheekbones by the way. Second, your reaction just right now was the full blow out." I tilted my chin up slightly.

"So tell me. Why have you been crying?" I asked once again. She ignored me and continued walking. I quirked an eyebrow and followed her.

"So you're just gonna ignore me now?" With a sigh, Maggie stopped walking again and turned to face me.

"I don't get it. Why are you here talking to me and worrying about me when you could hang out with any other person at this school? Why are you nice to me when other people here hate my guts?" I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. After awhile of stuttering, I bit my lip and leaned down to whisper in her ear.

"Here's the thing Maggie. I would give you the answer to that question if I could, but I don't even know it myself."

She narrowed her eyes at me when I stood straight to my normal height. Just as she was about to speak, a voice called my name. "Luke Banfield?" I turned my head to see a brunette with blonde high lights walking over to me with really high heels. I'm not gonna lie, those look painful.

"Great." Maggie murmured to herself.

"So you're the new kid?" The girl said once she reached Maggie and I. I crossed my arms and nodded.

"Yep. You are?" I asked. She smirked at me and extended her hand.

"Saskia. Saskia Noonan." She replied. I warily took her hand and gave it a firm shake before pulling it back.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Saskia, but as you can see I was speaking to Mags here about something important." I said with a small smile. Maggie widened her eyes at me as if she were trying to say something.

"Oh, right." Saskia said, giving Maggie a once over as she grimaced. "Well, if you ever need anything, and I mean anything at all. You can come to me. Here, use it whenever you want." She handed me a piece of paper and winked at me before walking off and swaying her hips.

I furrowed my eyebrows and looked down at the paper to see ten digits. "I'm guessing she's the slut of the school?" I asked Maggie. She snorted and shook her head.

"Haven't you heard? That's my title." She said with a sarcastic laugh. I frowned and grabbed her arm. "How bad have those comments and rumors about you gone exactly?" I asked.

Maggie pulled her arm out of my grasp and bit her lip. "I should get to class. The bell will go off any second." She started to walk and so did I.

"Stop following me!" Maggie started to walk faster and I laughed. "You and I have the next two classes together. Oh, and don't expect me to drop the subject so easily. I'll get my answers somehow." Maggie scoffed and stopped walking once again right in front of the classroom.

"From where? The people spreading rumors about me? Go ahead, start thinking the same thing they think about me. I stopped caring a long time ago." She walked in the classroom, leaving me out in the hallway completely confused.

-Maggie-

I took a deep breath as I sat down at a desk and buried my face in my hands. My eyes are begging for more sleep but I know that I have to wait until I get home.

Ha! You're very funny. No one gets sleep after having a baby in the house.

I groaned and dropped my hands as I let out a yawn. "Tired?" I jumped in my seat and glared at Luke.

"Okay, this sneaking up thing is getting seriously annoying. Stop pestering me." I said through gritted teeth. He narrowed his eyes and rested his arms on the desk.

"Since when is caring counted as a pester?"

I looked up at the ceiling feeling agitated by now. "You don't even know me and you care about me? Come on, let's be real. It's all sympathy isn't it?" I tilted my head and waited for an answer.

Having the decency to smirk, Luke leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. Making his muscles flex, but that's not the point.

"You know, most people would have to know another person's full story to be able to feel anything for them. Right now all I know about you is that your name is Maggie, and that people here hate you based on their own stories." I stared at him, not knowing what to say at all.

The bell went off before I could say anything so I sighed and opened up my notebook. Ready to take notes on whatever lecture was going to be shown today. I hope it isn't a movie because if the lights go out, so will I.

Second period ended and Maggie let out another yawn as we exit the classroom. "What time did you fall asleep?" I asked.

She groaned and put her hand up. "Will you ever stop?" She asked.

She yawned once again and I sighed. "That's it. You need some sleep." I grabbed her wrist and started pulling her towards the exit.

"No, I am not skipping. Stop! Let me go Luke." She said sternly. I smirked and turned to face her.

"You've yawned so many times, in the past minute, that I lost count. Obviously you need some sleep so I'm gonna take you home." I said.

She scoffed and crossed her arms. "You don't even know where I live, and I'm certainly not going to tell you. I can sleep after school is over. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a class to get to." I quirked an eyebrow and sighed.

"If you're gonna do it the hard way then suit yourself." I picked her up and threw her over my shoulder. She started to squirm immediately as she elbowed my back.

"Let go of me! Put me down now!" She elbowed me harder and I flinched.

"As much as that hurts I still won't let you go." I said. She squirmed even more and tried to get out of my grasp as I walked towards my car.

"Help!" She yelled. I chuckled and dropped her in the passenger seat.

"Everyone's inside Mags. They can't hear you. Just sit back and relax." She tensed up as closed the door and went towards the driver's seat.

I noticed as she scooted as far away from me as possible and pressed herself against the door. "If you're worried about me hurting you I won't." I said.

She stayed quiet and crossed her arms, looking out the window as I drove.

"Where are you taking me?" She asked after awhile. I smirked and took a left turn into the neighborhood.

"Well you won't tell me your address so I'll just take you to my house. Basing on how we ran into each other in the same neighborhood a few days back you live close by, so it shouldn't be a problem o taking you back home after."

"What about my car?"

"I'll take you to go get it and make sure you get home safe." I replied.

She sighed and slumped in the seat, mumbling something under her breath.

We arrived at my house shortly and Maggie opened the car door before I even got the chance to.

"Welcome to my humble home." I said as we entered.

Maggie stayed quiet as she looked around.

"My room's upstairs." I said, leading the way. She stayed rooted in her spot and crossed her arms. "I'm not going in your room nor sleeping in your bed." I sighed and closed my eyes for a second before opening them again and looking at her.

"Are you seriously going to continue being difficult?" She stared at me, not saying a word. I groaned and gestured up the stairs.

"Fine. There's a guest room upstairs too. Does that float your boat?" She nodded and walked upstairs with me. I led her to the guest bed room and opened up the door. This room already came with a bed so all mum did was paint it a cream-ish yellow color.

"If you need anything I'll be in my room right across the hall." I flashed her a smile and closed the door behind her before heading into my room and falling asleep myself.

************

-Maggie-

This is crazy. There's no way I'm falling asleep here. Not with him just a few rooms away. Nope.

I sat on the bed and waited until I got signs until he fell asleep. As soon as he does I'm leaving. I can walk to school tomorrow.

But you can't walk to work.....

I groaned as I felt my eyes involuntarily closing. "No Maggie. Stay awake." I mumbled to myself as I slapped my cheeks.

"You will not go to sleep. I repeat, you will not." I nodded my head in confirmation.

***********

I opened my eyes to see that the sun was starting to go down. I panicked and stood up from the bed, fixed the sheets, and slid on my flats.

"I fell asleep." I complained. I widened my eyes as I took out my phone and saw multiple missed calls from Sarah and my mom.

I'm going to kill Luke.

I rushed out of the room and trudged downstairs only to run into a woman.

"Oh, uh hi." She said. I gave her a small smile.

"Hi, the name's Maggie, and as much as I would like to get to know you I really got to get home and get ready for work. Uh, tell Luke that I am going to kill him once I see him again. Bye, I'm so so sorry." I ran out of the house and closed the door behind me before running as fast as I could to my house two streets down.

I made it soon enough and closed the door behind me before rushing upstairs to hear Graham crying. Crappp.

"I'm home. I'm very late but I'm-" I stopped talking when I entered Graham's room. Graham was being held and calmed down, but it wasn't by my mom or Sarah. It was my dad.

I watched as he paced around the room with Graham and whispered to him as he slowly stopped crying.

"Um, hi." I said.

My dad looked up and blinked a few times before clearing his throat. "He was crying and it was interrupting me from my work." He said. I frowned and walked in the room.

"I'm so sorry. I was at-"

"Just make sure it doesn't happen again." He interrupted, putting Graham in the crib.

"I gave him his bottle so he already ate." With that, my dad left the room, leaving me here. I bit my lip and started getting ready for work.

Today's theme was for kids, so Bay thought it would be funny to make it Disney characters. Guess who I'm playing??

Minnie Mouse.

I sighed and put on some red lipstick and some mascara before pulling my hair up into a tight ponytail. The restaurant always provides the costumes due to dress code so everytime, all I have to do is my make up and hair. Bay instructed me to bring some black converse so I borrowed Sarah's before making sure Graham had a bottle and leaving for work.

I woke up to my mum poking my face. "Mm. Mum, stop." I grumbled.

"Who was that girl that just ran out of our house?" She asked. I opened my eyes and groaned.

"Jesus Christ. Did she say anything before she left?" I asked back.

"Uh, she said her name was Maggie and she really had to go home to get ready for work. Then she wanted me to tell you that she is going to kill you the next time she sees you."

I sighed and sat up. "She was really tired 'cause she barely got any sleep last night so I took her here. We overslept I guess."

"We? As in you slept in the same bed?" My mum narrowed her eyes accusingly at me and I shook my head. "Nope. She slept on the guest room and I slept in here."

She nodded and stood up. "Mmkay. Start getting ready, your dad will be home soon and then we're going to that restaurant. Did grams call you?" She asked.

I checked my phone to see that I had a missed call. "Yeah, I need to call her back."

I called back the number and put my phone to my ear. "Hey grams, it's Luke." I greeted once she answered.

"Luke, I called you earlier but there was no answer. How's my muffin top?" I cringed at the nickname and face palmed.

"Sorry grams. I was taking a nap. Uh, I'm doing good. What about you?"

"Oh, I'm fine dear. Ooh, you should follow me on Snapcat!" She cheered. I furrowed my eyebrows.

"On what?"

"Snapcat dear. You know, the yellow app with the white ghost on it." I closed my eyes and sighed.

"Do you mean Snapchat?" I asked.

"Yeah, that's what I said! Anyways, what's your username on it?"

I bit my lip and banged my head against the headboard. "I'll text it to you later. So how's Furggles doing?" I asked.

Grams got a cat last year and named her Furggles. She's cute and all but damn I hate that bloody cat. She hisses at me for no reason everytime I visit grams.

"Oh, Furggles is doing great. She had kittens!" Great, there's more of her.

"Oh, well that's nice. How many?"

"She had six in total. I named them Tabby, Martha, Margaret, Ackles, Grayson, and Poppy. But that's not important right now. I was thinking that you should come for a visit soon. I paid for some plane tickets for next month so you can come and fly over here."

I quirked an eyebrow. "Oh, okay. Mum, dad, and I will be happy to see you again." I replied. She chuckled and kissed her teeth.

"No silly. I only bought two tickets. One for you and the other for that nice young lady you always talk about." I choked on my own saliva an stood up from my bed. "Grams, Talia isn't gonna want to come... she's scared of flying, remember?"

"Oh that's such a shame, I've been dying to meet her. Just talk to her and have her think about it, I'm desperate."

"Alright grams. Listen, I have to go now. I'm going out to dinner with mum and dad tonight." I said.

"Okay young lad. Bye bye. Say hello to your parents for me. And follow me on Snapcat!" She blew a kiss through the phone before hanging up. I laughed and tossed my phone on my bed.

-Maggie-

"Have a great evening guys. Thank you for eating at Rose Vineyards." The group of people thanked me as they left the restaurant. Half of my shift I had to be the hostess since our original one was sick and the other half I would spend waiting tables.

Bay got me a long sleeved black shirt paired with a knee length red skirt and a Minnie Mouse bow for my outfit. The outfit was cute, until she made me put on a black wig and a black dot on my nose.

Three people walked in but I wasn't looking at them since I was flipping through the reservation book.

"Good evening, welcome to Rose Vineyards. Reservation?" I asked.

"Thanks. We're under Banfield." I looked up with wide eyes to see a smirking Luke, a smile on the woman I ran into, and a casual look on the man by her.

"Oh, you're the girl from earlier!" The woman said. I gave her a nervous smile.

"Uh, yeah. I'm so sorry about that by the way. I was in a rush." I said. She smiled at me and waved it off.

"Oh no problem. I'm Luke's mum and this is my husband." She said, gesturing to the man. I could notice the thick British accents from both of them but none have I picked up from Luke. Strange.

"Nice to meet you both. I'm Maggie. Anyways, let me show you to your table." I said with a smile and grabbing three menus.

I walked ahead of them and walked towards one of the tables in the back. Luke appeared right beside me and I glared at him.

"I overslept thanks to you!" I sneered. He smirked and gave me a once over.

"You look really nice darling. Red suits you. What happened to your blonde hair though?" He asked. I gave him a tight lipped smile as we arrived at their table.

"Here are your menus and someone will be here soon to take your orders. I hope you enjoy your dinner." I said. Luke's parents thanked me. He smirked smirked at me, shooting a wink and it took everything in me not to strangle him right there in front of his parents.

Relax Maggie. You'll be at the front desk greeting people most of the time. What could go wrong?

"Maggie, grab your note pad and take the orders for that family you just sat down. Wren is going to take your spot up here." The manager said.

I just had to ask.
